About

CloZee on Tour

She may have been named Best International Newcomer at the 2013 U.K. Glitch Hop Awards, but French indie-electronic composer and producer CloZee is more than a master of musical miscalculations. Her futuristic sound mixes digital and organic sources into a paradisal, boundary-dissolving audio hot tub of soothing yet unique soundscapes.

A darling of the popular "transformational" festival circuit that brings the weird and wired Burning Man aesthetic to the masses — she has performed at Electric Forest, Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, and Camp Bisco — CloZee started as Chloé Herry, a student of classical guitar and sound engineering in the sleepy southern France city of Toulouse. She heard "amazing" artists in electronic music hot spot Le Bikini, and her life was changed by Crying Over Pros for No Reason by Glitch Mob member edIT.

In 2012, CloZee became the go-to beat maker for French film producers OckeFilm, who released an album of her earliest compositions. Her signature style — bass meets world music, or "world bass" as she calls it — emerged more distinctively on her 2016 EP Revolution. Her music is impossible to pigeonhole, and she likes it that way. The voyage is more important than the destination, after all.

"When I listen to the music," she has said, "I want to be suspended in time, travel, meditate. Because I need to escape reality. It is this dimension that pushed me to start writing electronic music."

CloZee's musical influences include Bassnectar, Beats Antique, and Bonobo. She has her own spin-off act in the slightly more pop-inclined CloZinger, a good-vibes collaboration with producer and fellow Toulouse-ian Scarfinger.

Her 2018 debut album Evasion — as in "escaping reality" — takes CloZee's credo of musical adventurism to the next level. Sitar, guitar, violin, and instruments from China and Asia flavor tracks that, like her live performances, transport listeners into a trance state. To sample the flavor of such events, imagine fiery "flow" dancers, such as those featured in her otherworldly "Evasion" video, and neon-glowing hoopers spinning gracefully nearby as you enjoy CloZee's lush, vaguely familiar, and yet inescapably otherworldly sounds.

    Indescribably good

by Corvid on 10/24/23The Ritz - Raleigh

Daily Bread was absolutely fantastic, and then CloZee came on and totally topped that performance. She had an amazing set, and even played some unreleased tracks (which were super), was my first time seeing her live, and the bass involved made it so much better than listening in headphones or on my stereo. I was blown away! She even ended with my favorite track from the album.

Good music but Orange Peel oversold, very crowded

by John on 10/24/23The Ritz - Raleigh

Extremely crowded from the front to the back, no room to dance, this event got way oversold. Music was top tier though.

    Amazing show!

by Smitty on 10/11/23The Joy Theater - New Orleans

This was my first time at The Joy Theater and I had a great time. The sound quality and production was crisp! The venue was intimate and overall really cool. My one gripe was that it felt a bit packed/cramped by the time Clozee came on stage.

    Nice of them, buttttt...

by Indianamal on 10/6/23Old National Centre - Indianapolis

Awful that they don't sell bottled water. I really hate that. But they did bring an igloo cooler around the front with free water. It didnt taste great, but was cold and free. They mopped up the wet floors with towels halfway through the show. Nice of them.

    by Bliss365 on 12/7/21Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Fox theater is beautiful! and the Clozee show was amazing. We had seats in the loge section; was happy to have seats and we were able to see the stage perfectly. The audio / visual was on-point. The Fox theater staff were great. All around, super awesome show!

Terrible show, didn't even see Clozee

by Kyle Smith on 12/7/21Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I left this event feeling extremely disappointed. We arrived before 8pm and were super excited to see Clozee, and by 10pm she wasn't even on yet. It was not communicated at all that there would be 3 openers who would each do 45min sets, and the openers were quite awful and a different genre of music altogether than Clozee. We left after 2h having paid money for an artist we never see. We would like a refund at your earliest convenience because this experience was awful and a waste of time/money. Thanks.
