Cleveland Guardians History
The Cleveland Guardians compete in MLB’s American League and have played their home games at Progressive Field since 1994. Established as a Major League franchise in 1901, the team has won 12 AL Central titles, six American League Pennants and two World Series championships, in 1920 and 1948. The Guardians have advanced to the Fall Classic six times in total, most recently in 2016.
Across several iterations, the Cleveland baseball organization has hosted a number of future Hall of Famers such as Larry Doby – the first Black player to join the American League – Joe Sewell, Stan Coveleski and Jim Thome. Cleveland has also been home to three league MVPs and five Cy Young Award recipients, including two wins by Corey Kluber in 2014 and 2017 Shane Bieber in 2020.

Progressive Field is a baseball park located in Cleveland, Ohio and has been the home of the Cleveland Guardians since 1994. The stadium is known for its intimate environment amidst the venue’s urban setting, where it stands beside the Hope Memorial Bridge and the eight “Guardians of Traffic” Art Deco sculptures that inspired the team’s name. The 34,830-seat baseball park has hosted the MLB All-Star Game twice, in 1997 and 2019, as well as three World Series, in 1995, 1997 and 2016.
