About

Citizen Cope on Tour

Citizen Cope conveys a kind of quiet authority onstage, a casual command that lets the audience know from the moment he opens his mouth that he's a musical force of nature. Whether he's up there alone with only his songs and his acoustic guitar for company or he's backed up by a full electric band, Cope knows exactly how to capture an audience's attention and hold it for every moment of his performance.

His organic blend of influences encompasses everything from folk and rock to R&B and pop. With his rich, soulful voice and his knack for potent melodic statements, he makes all of his diverse inspirations flow smoothly into the same sonic river. He gives his audience the opportunity to ride along, soak it all up, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.

Citizen Cope Background

The man who came into this world as Clarence Greenwood (before redefining his musical identity and rechristening himself Citizen Cope) got his start working with Washington, D.C., band Basehead before branching off on his own as a singer-songwriter. Not counting a limited-edition indie LP in the 1990s, he released his first widely distributed album in 2002.

That same year, Santana covered Cope's song "Sideways," bringing him in for a guest appearance on the tune to boot. Carlos Santana returned the favor by appearing on Cope's own recording of the song two years later.

It was Cope's 2006 album, Every Waking Moment, that turned out to be his commercial breakthrough, earning him a bigger audience than ever. Since then, his music has been heard just about everywhere, from TV shows (Entourage, Smallville) to film soundtracks (Ghost Town, Fracture), but it's at his concerts that Cope really turns on the magic to the maximum.

    Very Cool, IMPRESSIVE!

by spendogz on 9/23/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - Hollywood

The show was very cool. Good sound, good energy. Especially when he came out by himself and played 3 or 4 songs solo with his acoustic guitar. He was better then I thought he would be.

    Good but not Great

by KTFrizzle on 9/23/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - Hollywood

The show started off great but the set list needed help as he continued through the night. The flow was just very off and some parts were way too slow and acoustic. Don't get me wrong Citizen Cope has a fantastic sound and repertoire, but he could have fine tuned the order of songs. His encore was weak and lacked energy until Sideways. Overall, he was a professional and you could feel his passion. I enjoyed seeing him live finally, but have to admit I was slightly disappointed.

    Great show, subpar crowd

by Rvdmusreview on 9/23/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - Hollywood

Citizen Cope gave a fantastic performance. Some of the audience was irksome--yelling and detracting from the show. I'd see him in a less rowdy venue again in a second.

    COPE with it !!!

by LadyMX on 9/23/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - Hollywood

COPE'S band were tight and had great stage presence. Cope himself was his soulful self, exuding sensuality and creativity. A wonderful break to see true talent in a world of fake "acts" and not true artist like C.COPE. Stage lighting was great, venue was awsome.

    Died and went to heaven....

by AngJackson on 9/23/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - Hollywood

It was so much more than I was expecting. I was thrilled to see this show... the music and performance was amazing... to look down on the swaying crowd was affirming... We were all digging the experience. He was so great to watch with his band. There were several moments that I thought to myself... that at this very moment I couldn't imagine being any happier.

Citizen Cope Always a Good Show

by jamielady on 9/23/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - Hollywood

I've seen him play about 4 times, but this last time was amazing. I love the house of blues, it's such a personal venue - no matter where you are you've got a good spot. It's a chill show, personal, and touching. I love his music and it's even better live. The opening band - Alice Smith - is AMAZING as well. This was the second time I've seen her. Over all it was a fantastic show.

    Cope is that good!

by laloosh on 9/23/09HOB - Los Angeles

Great show last night at the HOB on Sunset. Cope meandered through old and new songs in his nearly 2 hour set. His new stuff is really cool -- upbeat, groovy, very solid. He finished with 4 solo acoustic songs, followed by the full band. His last song was a reggae version of Creep by Radiohead.

    I LOVE CITIZEN COPE

by sunnid on 9/23/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - Hollywood

This was the 4th time that I have seen Mr. Greenwood. Each show he just keeps getting better. The past two have included Alice Smith who is truly phenomenal. I still cannot get over that that amazing and powerful voice comes out of that little body! Great great show. I secretly hoped that he would do his cover of Karma Police. Maybe next time ;)

Citizen Cope Talent with a Laidback Groove

by RubyRu on 8/5/09Crocodile Rock - Allentown

Although I was in the under 21 area at Croc since I came with friends of different ages, the experience was good. I wasn't extremely familiar with the artist, but still had a great time beer or no beer :) The music was very chill and the vibe quite relaxed. The artist's talent overshadowed any issues with the venue (small space, hot). Definitely worth it.

    Amazing show

Awesome show, the best I have seen in a while. The venue was on the small side which made for a super intimate and amazing experience. Unforgettable show.

Ram's Head was a great venue! Citizen Cope filled all three levels. Went with a friend who had never seen Cope before and I loved this show as much as I loved the other two I saw!

Disappointed that he did not start playing until late and then somewhat of a short show, but he is still fabulous!

    Citizen Cope kicked ***.

by trent7722 on 7/14/09Rams Head Live! - Baltimore

Citizen Cope himself was great. I kind of wished he had done it aicustic like last year but oh well. It was just a bit to load with the full band that you could not always understand him due to the music. Other than that everything was great.

by Janelle19 on 7/14/09Rams Head Live! - Baltimore
