About

Circa Survive in Concert

In their decade-plus career, Circa Survive have continued to challenge themselves and test the boundaries of musical genres. With each album they've gone outside their musical comfort zone, jumping between post-rock, psychedelic, prog, post-hardcore and shoegaze, creating a sound that's uniquely theirs yet has the power to connect with a wide swath of music fans.

Their latest album, Descensus, isn't just an impressive illustration of Circa Survive's constantly evolving creativity; it's a testament to the strong bond the five members share. They've experienced career highs and personal lows, but their dedication to each other has never wavered. "We're just in a really sweet spot in our career where a lot of the hard stuff from the beginning is out of the way, and we're in this place where we know how to write a Circa song, and we also know how to walk outside of our comfort zone together and enjoy it," guitarist Colin Frangicetto says. "It just seems like at this point now there's really nothing to be afraid of."

The band embraced that fearless mentality when they went into the studio to write and record Descensus. After months of personal upheaval for each of the members, they managed to put all that aside and concentrate on making music together. With producer Will Yip once again at the helm, Circa Survive emerged with an album that they describe as their best yet. Whether it's loud and chaotic ("Schema"), trippy and indecisive ("Always Begin") or vulnerable and dejected ("Nesting Dolls"), Descensus is the sound of a band on the same page.

Circa Survive formed in 2004 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. It didn't take long for them to catch people's eyes and ears, both for their standout debut album, Juturna, and their passionate and dynamic live shows. Each album that followed was a success, from 2007's On Letting Go to their major-label debut Blue Sky Noise (which would go on to debut at No. 11 on the Billboard 200, their highest chart position yet) to 2012's Violent Waves, which they self-released.

Circa Survive continue to evolve, creating music that challenges and intrigues them as artists. Their shared desire to constantly create something new is what's kept both their music and their bond strong.

Circa Survive is: Anthony Green (vocals), Colin Frangicetto (guitar), Brendan Ekstrom (guitar), Nick Beard (bass) and Steve Clifford (drums).

They are touring on the Rockstar Energy Drink DISRUPT Festival in 2019. The touring festival features unique lineups in each city, including The Used, Thrice, Circa Survive, Sum 41, The Story So Far, Atreyu, Sleeping With Sirens, Andy Black, and more.

Best show I've ever been to

by nikolaiKS on 11/2/10Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

First Circa show I've been to, and best show overall I've ever been to easily. The sound was incredible, I am officially going to be a Circa season ticket holder for SoFlo. The pit was awesome, the opening bands were all great, especially Animals as Leaders. The only weak link was Code 7. They blew. Besides that Dredge and AAL were amazing lead ins to Circa. Anthony Green and the rest of the band hung out with everyone before and after, really nice guys.

    Circa ROCKED!

by Jezzuka on 10/31/10Masquerade - Atlanta

Opening band: Animals as Leaders Weirdest sound ever, but pretty cool. Think of colors making music. That's literally what they sound like. Worth downloading an album. Guest Band: Dredg I LOVE this band! They're great. They had some issues when setting up their instruments though, so they were cut short. The vocalist sounds exactly the same live as he does on albums. That's saying alot & sums it their performance. CIRCA: Best. Performance. Ever. Never mind the fact that I'm in a mid-sized venue, with too many people & no windows, being pushed and squished up against other people like fish caught in a net too small. Or the fact that at one point the pushing felt like massive ocean waves taking you from one side to the other. Anthony Green made it quite obvious when mid-concert he said "I can smell everybody here. You smell like lilacs, love and bodily fluids." The band was great, the songs were great, a good mix of past albums, the newest one and a few from the next album.

    Love Circa Surive

by YBerries on 10/30/10Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

I have just recently discovered Circa Survive and when I heard the were coming, I had to go. My ex had given me Blue Sky Noise which is an amazing album but when they performed, they were more then what I expected. They put so much emotion into their performance just like they do in they're lyrics. I loved the intro and the songs the sung even though I didn't know they're stuff from the first album it was still very enjoyable. Only thing was they're opening bands were good but forgettable.

    Very great show.

by Grisell on 10/25/10Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

Circa Survive put on an awesome show; their lead singer dominates the stage and has such command over the fans. dredg is amazing! They are definitely a band to follow. And lastly, Animals as Leaders tore the stage up with their awesome music. The crowd was wild and it was just awesome. I especially loved watching dredg's drummer; he is very entertaining.

I've gotta say, that was an absolutely awesome show. The opening bands were all enjoyable and never dragged on for too long, and Circa themselves were amazing. I'd highly recommend this show to a friend, and I look forward to seeing Circa again someday.

    Circa was surreal

by JackieClay on 10/19/10Recher Theatre - Towson

Circa has been my favorite band for awhile so to say the least I was extremely excited. It was everything and more then I expected, the energy in the theatre was undeniable. I felt like I had jumped into the concert footage I have watched so many times on youtube, it was to good to be true.
