the Original MST3K crew have still got it!

by Anonymous on 3/24/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

Cinematic Titanic is the revival of much of the original cast of the cult sci-fi comedy Mystery Science Theater 3000. the premise is the same, take an old, weird B-movie and make fun of it while it plays, turning incoherent plots and wooden acting into the fodder for comedy gold. over two decades after they first started Joel Hodgson and his gang are as funny as ever. whether you are a die-hard MSTie, or if you've never seen the show, Cinematic Titanic is a great show for lovers of quirky humor and and live comedy.

    Cinematic Titanic is hilarious!

    by RC132004 on 3/19/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

This was one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. Everyone should see this at least once. There was some language so you may not want to bring little kids.

A wonderful experience. I've been a MST3K fan since I was a kid, and seeing my idols live and having them interact with the audience was wonderful.

    All the MST3K fun, LIVE!

    by Anonymous6969 on 3/19/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

Catch up with Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, J. Elvis [Josh] Weinstein, and Mary-Jo Pehl. It's all the side-splitting humor you remember from MST3K but live!

    Cinematic Titanic Delivers

by JeffreyTheJew on 3/19/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

Excellent performance by the cast. Was impressed that there is a pre-show that was a lot of fun, and gave a great insight into the performers. Theatre is a beautiful venue, however, the sound of the cast's overdub was exceptionally loud, while the movie's volume was so low it was sometimes the case that the parallel between the movie and the punchline was not clear. Regardless, my partner and I laughed a lot and are looking forward to the next time CT is in the area.

    Coldplay was unforgettable!!! Oh Wait...

by futuredami on 3/19/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

I realize this is one of those events that it is very hard to be objective about, as most of the audience are all diehard fans and knew exactly the type of show they were coming to see. That being said Cinematic Titanic fans have pretty high standards for quality humor and the cast was nothing short of amazing. Just a fantastic event!

    Classic cult TV gone live!

by Doryna on 3/18/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

Cinematic Titanic is a reboot (of sorts) of the old Comedy Central TV series Mystery Science Theater 3000; the performers are five cast members and writers from the series, some going all the way back to the beginning. The show begins with a few fun bits; a couple of song performances, some stand-up, and other little surprises. But the feature is and always has been making fun of bad, bad movies. The movie for this particular performance, "War of the Insects", was perfect, a below-B grade 60's Japanese horror film with plenty of odd, unusual and just plain unexplainable moments that provide plenty of opportunities for comments, jokes, and obscure references to fly. Even though MST3K ended over ten years ago, it's like the cast has never stopped riffing, and they were in top form, the jokes flying forth and hitting almost every target dead on. The language and jokes are definitely at more of a PG-13 level than MST3K's more PG-rated humor, but things never got truly vulgar and frankly the adult treatment is kind of refreshing. As a lovely bonus, the cast does a meet-and-greet afterward to sign autographs and have a brief chat, which for this longtime fan was the icing on a very sweet, tasty cake. If you are an MST3K fan, it's a no-brainer. Go. Go now. For non-fans, those who like B-movies and witty humor will definitely appreciate it. Those who hate people who talk at the movies, though, need not apply.

Creative and varied opening bits. Movie riffing spot on hilarious! movie audio could have been a little louder. A little less echo on the performers mics too. But great great great fun! Please invite them back to NC!

    Cinematic Titanic and More!

by Tclynch on 3/18/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

An over view- if you've ever seen mystery science theater 3000, then you know what to expect. They show a bad movie and "riff" to it (ie, make jokes during the film about what is happening in the film). By itself, this was great. They also do a little music and stand up before the show. Frank was very funny and Grubber was quite a treat as well. After the show, they hang around and meet people, sign autographs, etc. I loved it.

    Very, very funny...

by ianspeak on 3/18/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

This show was great. A lot of topical references and it was very funny. The cast did a great job of interacting with the audience and poked just enough fun at the movie to keep it interesting withou going overboard. They also stayed afterwards to meet everyone who wanted to talk to them. A really great show.

Cinematic Titanic -- so worth it!

    by Steve187 on 3/18/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

Great show!!! Everything about it was fantastic, including the pre-show vignettes by the Titans. Loved Mary Jo's bad reading of the intro and Josh (or J. Elvis)'s segment. The only gripe I had about it was that the movie volume was a little low and the microphone's were a little high, so once in a while, one of the Titans would say something and blow out the ol' eardrums, but again .. worth it! Can't wait until their next visit!

The creators of MST3K put on the best show!

by Thrashputin on 3/18/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

I have been a MST3K fan since I was a kid and I just recently found out that Joel Hodgson and Co. were doing a movie riffing project called Cinematic Titanic. Seeing my childhood heroes on stage together was overwhelmingly nostalgic but new and fresh at the same time. Watching War of the Insects with them at the helm was and always will be an unforgettable experience. Thanks to Joel, Trace, Josh, Mary Jo, and Frank for making me laugh all these years and especially Friday night.

    Superb comedy, average acoustics

    by 36497 on 3/18/12Carolina Theatre - Durham

As expected of the minds behind MST3K, the night's film riffing was paced perfectly and never less than funny. That is, when the sound balance between the film and the performers allowed both to be heard. It doesn't surprise me that they set up the riffers' mikes to exceed the volume of the dreadful dialogue on screen, but some jokes failed because the source the riffers referenced was inaudible. A few extra-enthusiastic, i.e. screamed, riffs reached ear-bleeding decibel levels. Overall, though, the performers had energy and genuine comedy--moreso in the riffing than in the stand-up preshow in my opinion, but I liked seeing that each of them had a range of talents outside of movie mockery.

    Amazing double feature!

by handlesssage on 1/5/12Keswick Theatre - Glenside

The cast was amazing and it was just a great environment having the whole audience laughing with you! Both movies were hilarious and well riffed. The meet and greet afterwards was incredible. I have been a fan of Joel and the gang in Mystery Science Theater 3000 for over 10 years. I was such a thrill to get to meet my heroes! They were all super sweet and nice. Best time of my life! If you are even a little bit a fan it is worth going. Great laughs and great atmosphere.

Funny as always, but awful experience

by Shutterbugger on 1/3/12Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Cinematic Titanic is funny as always: from the high energy of Dave Gruber Allen's standup, to the warm-up acts by the other members that always brings laughs and cheers, it's no wonder this show was sold out. That said, the theater is uncomfortably cramped with seating that is not made to handle long shows. Aside from the bad seats that I barely fit into (not from the waist, but from the shoulders alone), the people were rude: staff as well as people next to me who seemed to have also been made that much more rude perhaps because the seating was that bad. The people there also seemed... strange. Don't get me wrong: this is CT, it's going to have people who are zealous to the series, but the people here also seemed oddly pretentious rather than welcoming. It was disheartening more than angering. But, like I said, the show itself is a blast and worth the money to see, and the CT crew are welcoming of their fans and although you can tell they get overwhelmed at times from it, they still are very grateful. If you do want to see it though, avoid Philly.

My wife and I had a great time. The movie and added commentary by the MST3K crew was hilarious as expected.
