Cinderella on Tour
Cinderella is unique among the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals in that it was the famous pair's only musical written for television. The 1957 debut of Cinderella featured musical-theater legend Julie Andrews in the title role, playing handmaiden to her stepmother and stepsisters after her father's passing.Â
In keeping with the storyline of the classic folktale, the musical follows Cinderella as she hopes for a better life, or at least one far away from her family members' demands. She is granted that wish by a fairy godmother who, through her magical transformations of the young woman and a nearby pumpkin, helps brings Cinderella tantalizingly close to the destiny about which she dreams.
In 2013, a new take on Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella debuted on Broadway, with a script updated by Douglas Carter Beane (To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Xanadu). The updated version of the story adds a few more characters and intrigue-filled plot twists, and â most notably â makes one stepsister at least somewhat sympathetic to Cinderella's plight.Â
The soundtrack also includes four Rodgers & Hammerstein songs that weren't in the original run of the show, which further expand the range of the plot. Laura Osnes (Grease, South Pacific) and Santino Fontana (Frozen, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) originated the roles of Ella and Prince Topher on Broadway, while Carly Rae Jepsen and Keke Palmer also played the title character during the production's Broadway run.
The Broadway run of Beane's Cinderella revival closed in January 2015, but the show is still enchanting audiences around the world with its touring production. Starring Kaitlyn Mayse as Ella, Lukas James Miller as Topher, and Zina Ellis as the fairy godmother Marie, this Cinderella demonstrates how with a little magic and a sprinkle or two of fairy dust, anyone can be who they want to be.
The characters did an amazing job... I loved that they brought acts of kindness and forgiveness into the play... however, I did think it was a bit lengthy and I wish the story line should have stuck to the original Cinderella.... the comical aspects of the play were very entertaining!
This musical was very enjoyable, but it had a much more modern twist than the 1965 television version, which my wife and I remembered from our youth. The transitions were very well done and subtle in the movement. The added humor was enjoyable, but we did miss the King and Queen. All in all we had an enjoyable evening and got to share this with this with some young ladies who had never had the experience of a live play and this storyline of Cinderella.
It was an awesome show. Liked the way Cinderella would change from one dress to the other, amazing. It was a GREAT SHOW overall!! Really enjoyed it. Thank you.

Show was amazing! Live on stage costume changes done flawlessly to the point I was left thinking about how they could do that. Would absolutely recommend this show and venue.

What happened to the original Cinderella. If I wanted a political commentary, Iâd turn on the news. I went to the theater to see a lighthearted, fun, romantic throwback to my youth. The performers were good and the sets and costumes (particularly the costume changes) were fabulous. Leave an original fairytale script alone. Hence the category; fairytale!
I was humming the tunes for days afterward. Well worth the ticket price!

I was absolutely furious with the experience with this show. First, they changed the time from 7:00 to 8:00 on a school night without giving the option to cancel. I would have never gone if it was originally scheduled at 8:00.
We first had dinner then attended the show. She is nine and loved every minute of it.

Don't get me wrong. It was an awesome show but I guess I was expecting a little more bling and sparkle for the ball dress and the transformation of getting ready for the ball. Although I know there's only so much you can do live on a stage. Guess I was comparing to the Rodgers and Hammerstein version on tv many years ago. But the music and the voices were beautiful!
The theater is absolutely breathtaking. Cinderellaâs actors were amazing. Staff is friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back.
