Winston Churchill has just been awarded honorary US citizenship by President John F. Kennedy. In recognition of this unprecedented occasion, The American-Oxford Society has asked the former Prime Minister to address them and discuss what this honor means to him.
In this often funny, sometimes touching and always engaging one-man-show... veteran British actor, David Payne brings Churchill to life onstage. Audiences will be delighted to hear of his exploits during the Boer War, his constant battles with Britain's fellow politicians, and his special relationship with America and America's presidents. But most telling of all, Churchill enlightens the audience with intimate and touching details of the two special women in his life--his wife Clementine and Queen Elizabeth.
With elements of The Crown and The Darkest Hour, David Payne once again gives audiences an opportunity to spend an evening with one of the greatest historical figures in the world--Sir Winston Churchill.
We so enjoyed Churchill. Just wonderful. Wish school children could hear.
David Payne's Churchill was sublime. An outstanding performance and production. I saw the April 4th performance at The Broadway Theatre in Chicago, IL. The audience. Too many latecomers. And some in the front row to boot. There seemed to be a low murmur throughout. Some people talking back to Mr. Payne. Ridiculous. And of course the obligatory cell phone ringing. Attending the theatre is not a spectator sport.
We very much enjoyed David Payne's rendition of the reminiscences of one of the greatest men of the modern era. The theater is a very comfortable size with very good sight lines. We had not attended any events at the Water Tower Theater, and we will look forward to doing so again.
This was a very well done one man show. It was filled with humor, history, and personal perspective. My husband and I really enjoyed it.
Churchill was known to be a great storyteller and humorist as well as a key historic figure influencing the end of Hitler in the Second World War. This show speaks clearly to those traits and his place in history. Through a “casual” chat with Churchill, we learned more about who he was, what influenced him throughout life, his wins and - as importantly- his failures. It was a wonderful couple of hours with a master actor, who himself is in his 80’s. I highly recommend it.
An absolutely brilliant performance describing the life of a fascinating man. Both educational and humorous, this was something that everyone who loves history should see.
Churchill is a one man show about Winston Churchill. The actor doing the show is 81 and really beings it!
Show was fine. Enjoyable evening but nothing amazing. Churchill’s jokes are all set up the same and it wears on you as the show goes on. I’m not saying thing is bad. It’s just fine. If you have a discount code, see it. Don’t pay full price
A fantastic performance and a wonderful experience from the trip into Chicago to see a matinee and have dinner at Water Tower Place. The Broadway Theater is an intimate and easy venue with convenient parking.
A wonderful performance. I would tell everyone I know to see it.
