Sub par sound and lights did this performance a disservice
by Disappointed on 12/14/21Kuss Auditorium at Clark State Performing Arts Center - SpringfieldSaw this show recently nd went in with high expectations for great Celtic music at Christmas. What I got was a poorly produced show that was not professionally presented. First, the sound. This show was very heavy on sound track, bass guitar, and drum kit. This prevented a great deal of the traditional instruments, pipes, violin, hand drum, flutes, etc. from being heard clearly or not at all. The pipes were heard, but it seemed that they were just carried by their natural volume and not mixed well with the rest of the presentation. The lighting. Overdone or not done at all. Too many times the performers were not lit at all, or poorly lit. It seemed like this was the first time the lighting technician had seen or even heard of this show, and was lost. The dance schools who participated were great, and kudos for hanging in there with all the dark stages they had to deal with. The performers were really good. Just don't expect an all traditional Celtic show. Lots of pop and rock mixed in. The pipers and violinist were outstanding. The lead may have been on his traditional drum, but that could barely be heard. The show finished strong, and I am glad to have seen it, but they could have done so much better with some stronger tech support.
