Christine Goerke's unique timbre and charming personality are a powerful duo that make her performance in a recital setting an unforgettable experience. Her program was a thoughtful mix of classical and contemporary, her soulful rendition of John Daniel Carter's Cantata was moving as was Gershwin's "My man's gone now", a song from the opera Porgy and Bess that she dedicated to a dear friend who passed away from cancer last year. Berg's pieces were rich in melody and lyric and Ms Goerke's voice and expression captured the feeling of every word, her accompanist, highly accomplished Kathleen Kelly, shaped the music around the work with expertise and grace. Ms. Goerke connected to the audience in the same way she connected with the music, with presence and heart. Thank you Tucson Desert Song Festival and UApresents for bringing this amazing talent to Tucson.
