by R. W. on 4/15/19New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

I have been a Chick Corea fan since his Miles Davis days. I believe I have attended the several Brian Blade appearances in the metropolitan area. Huge fan of his passion for performing. Love the venue. NJPAC is a must return. Easy commute to Newark from Queens

    Chick was absolutely outstanding!

by A. W. on 4/15/19New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

Had terrific seats and his trilogy did not disappoint for one single second!! I must confess considering his age wasn't too sure whether he could still deliver but I should be ashamed for even thinking that!! I will most definitely see him again when he passes through the northeast, or wherever I might travel and he's in the area. He's so WORTH IT!!!

    3 Pros and a prodigy

by SGK on 4/15/19New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

The opening act was Joey Alexander, a 16 year old prodigy. He performed several pieces that he composed on the piano. The kid is definitely a genius and going places in the jazz world. The main event was Chick Corea on the piano, with Christian McBride on bass, and Brian Blade on drums. This trio hasn't been performing together that long, but you would not have known it by listening to how well they played together. They all got a chance to do solos in every piece, highlighting how talented they are as individual performers. If you have the chance to see them play together, or performing separately for that matter, go!

Great Night of Jazz in Newark, NJ !

by C. T. on 4/15/19New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

Really fabulous night of jazz in Newark last night starting with the Keane College Jazz Ensemble playing in the lobby pre-show who were were GREAT! Then we took our box seats, and opening artist 15 year old piano prodigy Joey Alexander played about an hour of stellar solo self penned compositions! This young man is worth listening to folks. Not only technically marvelous, but he has the feel for the music - which makes all the difference. He’s truly wonderful, and got a mid-set standing ovation from the audience which was well deserved. Then finally, the reason we were there arrived and the Chick Corea Trio with the wonderful drummer Brian Blade and incomparable bassist Christian McBride and the 78 year old Corea who has lost NONE of his technique and creative flare with the years took the stage. Corea began ( and ended ) the show by tuning up the audience, which consisted of him playing a few notes on the piano and waving the audience on to mimic it vocally - which we did enthusiastically and hilariously! They opened with an amazing upbeat version of his La Fiesta with solos by all. Brian Blade is a joyous musician just grinning ear to ear as he plays the most inventive incredible drum solo in this song and setting the pace throughout the opening number, and the entire night. They also played an amazing version of a Kurt Weil composition; This Is New, which originally appeared on Corea’s first album in 1968! They played a relatively new number by Corea which he named A Spanish Song, and a song by Theloneous Monk, I forget which - but it doesn’t matter as they’re all gems. For me the absolute high moment of the evening was when they played Stevie Wonder’s Pastime Paradise from the Songs In The Key of Life masterpiece. This song featured Corea playing some amazing solos and McBride matching each one on the bass. McBride is a monster on the bass - just so good. They played right up to about 10:45 and said they had lost track of time so there was no time for a proper encore number and instead they tuned the audience out with a little ditty to the joy of all concerned. ps..NJPAC is a wonderful venue to see a show. It's clean and comfortable and the staff is friendly and helpful.

    Chick Core

by alfind186 on 4/15/19New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

The man is a jazz classic and at 78 is still in full throttle. Plus his trio includes two very formidable musicians, the rhythms pulsate and they are incredible as a unit. A great show.

Chick was ok. I enjoyed the drummer. Very talented

by Picturecute on 10/5/18Birchmere - Alexandria

Chick did not play many sounds I was hoping to hear from the past. I guess he was trying to promote his new album. I left early. Rather disappointing!

Chick Corea always delivers in spades

by stirfry on 10/4/18Birchmere - Alexandria

In the 50 years I've enjoyed Chick's music, he's always delivered. Monday night at the Birchmere was no exception. To see such a fine artist up close and hear his inventiveness undimmed by age or experience is a unique delight that all should have the opportunity to enjoy. Long live!

    Mesmerizing

by CarolVic on 10/4/18Birchmere - Alexandria

My second time in ‘life on earth’ ever seeing Chick Corea. The 1st time was in 79 or 80 when ‘Return to Forever’ came to Washington, DC. I didn’t know other parts of the group had come to the Birchmere. I’ll have to get on the Birchmere email list! I also didn’t realize that sitting at a table while others were already at the table was okay. I could have sat closer. I wanted to see his phenomenal finger-work!!!

Chick Correa + LCJO = Fresh Takes

    by JRH1735 on 4/2/18Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

Chick Correa said it best when he thanked the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra for collaborating with him on updated arrangements of many of his classics and early works. Correa was engaging and active on the piano while the orchestra and its members (sans W Marsalis) provided ensemble and solo elements that made for beautiful music. As a frequent attendee at LCJO concerts, I was pleased that each member of the orchestra had one or more opportunities to step up for solos and that many of the orchestra members participated in arranging the pieces for this presentation. Finally, the Genesee Theatre is wonderful - a gem in downtown Waukegan - beautifully restored, fine acoustics, easy access and parking and good sight lines. Looking forward to going back!

Chick Corea is a legendary musician

by diamondeb on 4/2/18Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

He didn’t miss a note and his piano skills are off the chart. He let many of the stars in the Lincoln jazz orchestra shine as well. He is a classy wonderful guy who puts on a jazz fusion show unlike any other.

    A fabulous concert!

by JazzLibrarian on 4/2/18Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

This concert was unforgettable. Chick Corea - a jazz icon - and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra - an iconic ensemble - played Chick's music in new arrangements written by LCJ players. The music was amazing! Chick himself said they made his music sound fresh and new. A perfect match. Genesee Theater was a great setting for a night of superlative jazz.

    Outstanding

by JazzRadioHost on 4/2/18Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

Chick Corea and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra have a unique rapport, respect and love for one another that is evident from the moment they step onto the stage together and it is elevated on the first notes they play together. The city of Waukegan was treated to a performance that would have been at home on the stages of Carnegie Hall or Symphony Center. Every one of the musicians on stage was among the best in the world at this moment in time, and many have rewarding careers as leaders as well as sidemen. This was a delightful performance deserving of the three standing ovations it received.
