Saw Chely Wright at the Uptown Theatre in Napa, CA. She gave an excellent show. Her singing was outstanding and she told many heartfelt stories. Would definitely see her again!
For those reading this and saying who is Chely Wright here goes. Chely came out as a lesbian about a year or so ago. The country music industry has pretty much forgotten who she is. This is very upsetting to those of us fans who still hung on and are following her. She is an amaIng artist as was the case when websaw her november 10th at the Uprown Theater in Napa CA. If you ever have the opportunity to see her and can look past her sexuality please do. You will laugh and cry and walk away saying now there's an artist who truly has a passion for her music and the love of her fans. Love you Chely! Keep up the great work!
First, I was pleasantly surprised by the opening act, Deep River. They were very entertaining and full of energy, and they are so far my favorite openers at the Birchmere. Chely took the stage with two other guitarists and she sounded wonderful. She talked a lot, too, which, while entertaining and intimate, meant she didn't get through her whole playlist (another half hour of music would have earned an "amazing" rating from me). She held a general meet-and-greet after the show and really took her time with each fan. I wasn't prepared to wait in line for an hour and forty minutes, but it was a Friday night and I was glad to finally meet her.
Chely Wright's recent stop at the Birchmere Theater in Alexandria, VA was well worth the price of admission. She works very well in a small, intimate dinner theater environment where she can connect with her audience. She spends a lot of time talking and engaging with her audience which, from my perspective, was a good thing in a small venue. Most of the songs are from her most recent album. The performance was well done although I have to say, I enjoyed her earlier music more. I was somewhat disappointed that she did not play more of her earlier work which I found to be more upbeat and with a broader range of styles. I am hopeful that, as she moves through her current journey, she will be comfortable getting back to that style. She opened with a great new group, Deep River, which really complimented the evening.
I think Chely is great and I have been a fan for years. I think she has a great presents with the group and knows how to keep you wanting more. would I go see her again, Hell Yes! the group before her I was not impress with them at all.I think they should jump in the deep river, sorry but that is how I see them.
Great show. Deep river was good as well. It was so nice of Chely to stay for photos & autographs.
Chely stayed for hours (no kidding) after her concert to meet and speak with every fan who was in line. She never showed any sign of tiring and gave every person her undivided attention. Amazing. Ive never seen Chely. She has a good show. You cant wrong at the Birchmere.
Great show. Chely is amazing and great to her fans. First time I had seen her since Fan Fair many years ago.Met with fans before and after show! Really good mix of old and new. She is so personable. The Birchmere is a great venue too. Very intimate atmosphere. I really enjoyed Deep River too. I had never heard of them but am not from that Northern VA area and understand they are local. Hope they hit it. They were amazing. The lead singer had a great voice. Wonderful stage presence. It was a great show.
An outstanding evening at Birchmere, was not expecting such a dynamic warm up band as Deep River. Rachel is the next Jennifer Nettles. The crowd enjoyed their segment as the band interacted with us. Then loved the way Chely Wright spoke with the crowd and did not overwhelm with instruments - just guitars and signing as it should be. Will follow both and attend another event.
Chely puts on a great show. She is funny, personable and truly loves her fans. I think her songwriting abilities are excellent and she is a great performer.
The night was fantastic. Birchmere is a good venue and Chely Wright made it unforgettable. It was fantastic. Just wish she could be on stage forever - so gracious and beautiful music!! Deep River was a wonderful addition...
This is second time we saw Chely and she didn't disappoint. We love her music, the way she shares her stories about the songs, and her humor. We especially appreciate the generosity of her time after the show to sign autographs and take pictures with the fans. Anytime she comes to the Birchmere, we will be there!
What a fantastic show all around! I was not familiar with either artist and was incredibly impressed. Deep River is a young, energenic and dynamic group who will do well. Chely was warm and engaging with her audience. She spend several hours after the show with all the people that wanted to say hello, sign an autograph cd or take a picture. She has a special ability to touch her fans one-one-one -- Excellent show!!
This was an amazing show. I think everyone had a great time. Chely engages the audience and take you on an amazing musical journey. I would see this show a dozen more times! The Birchmere is really a great place. The only con is that the drinks are really expensive. My BudLight was $7 each.
Chely Wright has a bunch of great new songs that are authentic and not cookie cutter or generic. She's got a great personality, very funny and so the whole night was a true show. The opening band was also fun and upbeat, they had the whole audience clapping and singing along. I would definitely see Chely Wright or Deep River again.
