Charlotte Hornets History

The original Charlotte Hornets franchise joined the NBA in 1988 and, thanks to players such as Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning and Kendall Gill (and later, Glen Rice, Anthony Mason and Jamal Mashburn), enjoyed substantial success in the 1990s, starting with the 1992–93 season. Owner George Shinn moved the franchise to New Orleans in 2002.

But the NBA returned to Charlotte for the 2004–05 season with the expansion Bobcats, led by owner Robert L. Johnson, the first African-American majority owner of a team in one of the four major sports. In 2010, Michael Jordan took over majority ownership of the franchise, and in 2014, Jordan's team re-adopted the Charlotte Hornets name after the previous New Orleans Hornets became the Pelicans.

During the 2017–18 season, four-time All-Star Kemba Walker became Charlotte's all-time leading scorer, surpassing original Hornet Dell Curry.

I really wish that the sound system was better. We could barely heard anything...the Referee, the halftime show, and any announcements.

  • What a difference a year makes.

Had a great time at the Hornets game on Sunday. Upgrades to the stadium were really nice. New seats were comfortable and seemed a little more spacious. Really enjoyed the fan experience as well. Much better this year.

  • Pleased Fans

by The Stinger on 11/4/25Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

From entering the arena we were great with warm smiles. Being that my wife is disabled, the staff pulled a chair for her as she waited for me as I parked our vehicle across the street. This professionalism and kindness flowed all the way to where we were to be seated. Again, we were met warm smiles. Thanks for a great evening!

  • Very Long Lines at Entrance

by S. Woods on 10/20/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 1 out of 5

The line to get inside the venue was too long. It took an hour to get in and be seated. I missed the 1st half of the game. Very disappointed.

  • 1.5 hour line to get in

by JW on 10/19/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 1 out of 5

Missed most of the first half because it took almost 1.5 hours to get into the building. Bought expensive tickets, but the coliseum security was a disaster and totally unorganized. No one response from the Hornets for the thousands of people that didnt get what they paid for.

  • Unorganized

by Gucman. on 10/18/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 1 out of 5

It was very unorganized. The line was long to enter and was at a stand still. After standing in line we were told to walked around to the front of the arena to enter. When most entered it was almost half time.

  • We didn't get into the venue until 3rd quarter!

by Nic on 10/18/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

There was no direction on how to get into the arena. There were 3 converging lines trying to get in. Finally, a policeman came out and told us to go around to the front of thr building to get in. That was criminial!!! We all missed 2 1/2 quarters of the game multiple people just left without seeing the game.
