Was a really fun show! He was very engaging and entertaining. Music was good. When he played with his opening band, there was a lot of love and fun, they’re very nostalgic! His original music was also good. Would definitely go see him again.

Had a wonderful time at the Birchmere, performance from Charles (Chip) Esten was so much fun, what a great voice. To make the evening even better, wonderful venue, food and Birchmere staff!

  • Best ever, possibly one of the best nights of my life

by Chrissy on 12/1/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

The venue is small and intimate. We sat in the very back and still had a great view. Chip sang all unrecorded, and unheard before music, unless you tune into his Facebook lives. Then you may have recognized a few songs. It was like hearing a new album for the first time ever…absolutely amazing. He also told a story throughout the show about his childhood, life growing up in VA, and becoming an actor and singer. I would 10/10 times recommend this show to any Charles Esten fan. It was truly amazing. The best live show I’ve ever seen. I hope to go back again next year. The staff was also attentive and friendly. My only complaint is how many times people, staff and patrons, kept walking in front of the stage during the show. I wish there had been better aisles laid out so as to not cross in front of the stage all night.

  • Excellent Event

by BH on 12/1/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Great venue, excellent acoustics, and fantastic, energetic performance. The crowd appreciated the local-boy, hometown comments. And no one wanted the concert to end. There was one encore, so enjoyed.

  • Great show with all new original songs

by Marisa on 12/1/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the venue, it had a special vibe and the acoustics were great. Chip Esten was on fire and played for more than 2 hours, the setlist contained of all new unreleased original songs. I hope he records and releases those tunes soon so we can listen to them at home! I came from Germany and plan to go back to Chip at the Birchmere next year!

  • THE BEST!

by Wendy on 1/6/20Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Charles Esten put on a phenomenal performance! The show was sold out and he delivered on all accounts. The Birchmere staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was great! We thoroughly enjoyed the concert and evening! Fantastic!

  • So much fun

by DKW on 12/31/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Hometown boy made good! Esten is so relaxed playing for his family and friends, and that gives the rest of us, who don’t know him personally, the chance to feel like we do. I’ve seen Esten in concert several times, although not for the past 3yrs or so. And it seemed to me that he is much improved as a musician and an artist. Great show and SO MUCH FUN!

  • Best show

by Mikie on 12/30/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

In my opinion Charles (Chip) put on his BEST show on Friday night. His daughter Taylor Noelle opened for him & she was really good. If you ever get an opportunity to see Chip GO!

  • Yearly Tradition

    by J. G. on 12/30/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This concert is a yearly tradition that I cherish. Charles Esten is an incredible talent as a musician and entertainer. He was meant to be on the stage and the joy and passion shines through. Birchmere is a great venue with great sound and close up views.

  • Great musicians, poor sound.

    by NashvilleFan1 on 5/15/18Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 1 out of 5

Disappointed! This is the third show we have seen at the Genesee. We enjoyed the others. We were very excited to see Clare and Charles, two talented musicians, but the sound was terrible!! The base was too heavy, the band too loud and when one could hear the lyrics, they were not clear, sounded garbled. The usher I spoke to said they had their own sound guy...not sure if that was the issue but very disappointed, We left before the show ended.

  • Great Entertainers!

    by Cassiek27 on 5/14/18Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

Have only seen these wonderful actors on the show 'Nashville.' What an amazing surprise to see their energy and vocal performances in person. Traveled one hundred twenty miles (round trip) to the Genesee Theatre - it was certainly worth the trip! Great time!

My wife and I are country music fans. We have attended many concerts at Tinley Park, Soldier Field, and some smaller venues . My biggest pet peeve is when the music drowns out the voices of the singers. At the Friday night performance, the first set with Claire Bowen, the sound coming from the bass was so loud and buzzy, that you couldn't understand any of the lyrics she was singing. At the intermission we passed the sound engineer and mentioned it to him.He said she has a soft vice and Charles' set should be better. Wouldn't you tone down the bass if the singer had a "soft voice"? The second set for Charles Esten was a little better, but they never get the singer's voice to rise above the band. After spending good money for concert seats, I think they owe us a better mix of music and voices. If the recordings sounded like this, they would never sell a CD or digital download.

  • Great show!!

by LBCAgirl on 5/14/18Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

Totally enjoyed the free spirit of the show/ these are some talented artists and performers. It was great to see them outside of the Nashville show characters!

  • fabulous show!!

by redfinchlady on 5/14/18Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent show at the beautiful Genesee Theater. Clare Bowen had such amazing energy and stamina and her voice was AMAZING!!! Charles Esten was just as good. It was a lovely evening and the best part is that it is an easy in and out at this theater and a great, entertaining evening that is quite reasonable!

  • Clare overwhelmed by the band

by Anonymous on 5/14/18Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 3 out of 5

Not sure who's to blame, the theater sound board or the band's mix; fact is poor Clare Bowen's beautiful voice was swallowed up by the extremely talented band. Ms. Bowen's acoustic set was inspiring; allowing her voice to shine. Mr. Esten was better than expected and worked hard to entertain an estimated two-thirds full house.
