So last Friday I spontaneously decided to go see Mindless Self Indulgence even though I knew it would mean giving up food and a roof over my head for the next 48 hours. The moment I walked in and heard Chantal singing, dancing, and just overall killing it I knew it would be totally worth it. I was not wrong.

Chantal's The Queen of Pocket Rocket Soul!

by MisfitCassie on 5/8/13Mindless Self Indulgence live at Club Nokia LA - Los Angeles

Chantal Claret’s performance as the opening act for her spouse Jimmy Urine’s band the underground electric-funk-alternative punk band Mindless Self Indulgence, when they both played the venue at Club Nokia LA in Los Angeles, CA on 5/4/13 was a complete success! One hundred-percent successful! Though I as a fan have seen Ms. Claret’s other performances at other solo venues, I believe this one was my ultimate favorite performance of hers. Her band’s sound was loud with old school rhythm and blues, some soul, a bit of rock meets jazz, with her own special blend of magic with her lovely voice and backup vocals from her backup singers. Her debut album hit songs were played like “Pop Pop Bang Bang”, “Real Girls,” and “This Time”. New songs she performed like “Jailbait” for likely her new album she’s working on was performed during her opening act which was impressive in lyrics, song, and sound. Chantal’s stage presence is astonishing when she commands you’re attention to stand, be still for a second to listen to her words, the beat of the music, and then unleash yourself into screams-cheers-dancing in the audience to the music. Chantal Claret’s the pocket rocket sweet heart here to stay.

    Wow!

by RacheTron on 5/8/13Club Nokia - LA

Chantal opened for MSI, a band whose genre is quite different from her own (upbeat 60's pop with a taste of punk), but she still managed to sell her show to the crowd with her insane stage presence (jumping, spinning, strutting,, choreography with backup singers, playing limbo onstage) and her sweet audience interaction (she got into the pit and made everyone sit down as she sang a "storytime" song about her father). I was very impressed and I will definitely go see her again!
