About

CHAKA KHAN IN CONCERT:

The Queen of Funk has no equal: Chaka Khan is, indeed, a living legend. Her live performances are energetic histories of her four-decade long career in music -- from her funk days through her jazz and R&B heydays. Her profound voice carries her fans "Through the Fire," and "Ain't Nobody" loves them better than Chaka. Although Chaka's appearances are less frequent than in her heyday, she delivered big at her 2013 shows, wowing fans and building excitement for her select dates in 2014. Make no mistake: she's got it. She's still got it.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Chicago-born Yvette Marie Stevens came up in rough South Side housing projects before she rose to fame under the name Chaka Khan. Her grandmother introduced her to jazz music at an early age and instilled a life-long love of the genre. As she grew up, she bounced around all-girl singing groups and small bands before joining the Black Panthers and changing her name. While performing in a local band in 1972, she was poached by a new group called Rufus, and with her at the lead, the group signed a major contract with ABC Records just a year later. After several years with Rufus, she proved to be just as talented on her own with the 1978 solo debut Chaka, featuring the ubiquitous hit “I’m Every Woman”. All said and done, she has won ten Grammys and sold over 200 million records worldwide.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"She is a gift of 'honey for the ears!' No one will ever match her talent! We are so fortunate that she shares her gift with the world, and that she has been blessed with an unchanging voice."

"As expected, Chaka torn it up and I couldn't get enough even though she sang for over an hour and a half. I loved every minute of it."

"Very relaxing show! She is a loving artist! Performance great!"

    Mediocre Show

    by Les on 8/28/23

Seemed like Chaka wasn’t putting in much effort to sing. It was just an okay show. Didn’t leave me excited to have seen her sing. Also, the order of songs could have been better and her performance seemed shorter than the opening act. The Family Stone was better; however sometimes they were a little off key with their instrumentation. The female singer was off too on all of the songs and she didn’t sound like the original songs. She looked like she didn’t want to be on the stage and rarely smiled. The lead male singer was very good.

    Disappointed

    by H. D. on 8/28/23

The opening act The Family Stone was excellent! Chaka Khan..she was ok. She looks great and can still sing. The “concert” was nothing more than a medley of songs. The crowd sang, the background singers sang and Chaka belted occasionally. It was very low energy for a concert and a very short one at that. Was excited to see Chaka but was disappointed by her lackluster performance.

    Disappointing Performance … I guess it’s show biz 🫤

    by Jeanne on 8/27/23

Disappointed in the double feature show. The Family Stone was good recapturing the songs from back in the day. Dull not having Sly as part of the group. I realize Sly is 80, but so are performers like Mick Jagger; Rod Stewart; etc. similarly aged. As for Chaka Kahn. This is the second concert that I attended and was not thrilled … especially this past concert. My take was that the backup singers sang the parts of the songs that Chaka Kahn should have. And her singing style is a lot more screaming, much like the singing style of Patti LaBelle. Bottom line. There won’t be a third Chaka Kahn concert that I’ll attend.

    Elegant Vibes

    by Wedding Song on 8/27/23

My husband and I wanted to see Chaka Kahn because she sings our song (Ain't Nobody) it was the song I walked down the aisle to. When we so that she was going to be in the area we had to come for our 19th anniversary! We had been arguing but decided to attend since the tickets had always been purchased. She ended the concert and we were almost in tears thinking it was a sign that we were over 😭 but she came back and sang our song!!! So exciting and perfect!!! We hope to you her again at our next anniversary ❤️

Chaka has that special quality and tenderness that exemplifies the true beauty of a black queen. May God continue blessing her, as she shares his greatness through her, that which he bestowed upon her, which is Grace !!!! Long live "Chaka Khan."

    by KarenH on 8/27/23

Seeing Chaka Khan was on my bucket list. I waited too long. She no longer sings; just hold the mike out to the audience. I can sing the songs at home for free!

    by C2 on 8/27/23

Loved her back in the day. Her old stuff was fantastic. Too much screaming and not enough singing. Back up singers were great! Musicians were also great. Chaka Khan has much better voice. Disappointed in style of songd performed.

    Amazing!👌🏾

    by K. N. on 8/26/23

My boyfriend and I went to see her way in New Jersey, Atlantic City and she was amazing. We really enjoyed it. She gave us our moneys worth. I highly recommend seeing her live. She even came back on stage and singed one more song. Not to mention this was our very first time ever seeing her live.
