About

Brooklyn indie electro-pop duo CHAIRLIFT are returning to Australian shores this December!

Members Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly first captured the world’s attention with their breakout single ‘Bruises’, which featured a range of uncanny pop sensibilities, mixed with polished production and euphoric vocals. Over time, this sound has become the duo’s signature essence. CHAIRLIFT have gone on to become one of the most distinctive acts of its era, often being compared to icons like MGMT, Chvrches and Grimes.

This wildly talented pair boast a total of three studio albums, each of which fuse styles like electronic, synth pop and indie pop into relentlessly catchy masterpieces, with live shows that reflect this. Their latest offering ‘Moth’ released early this year has caught the attention of listeners the world over, standing as their most emotionally charged and pop-centric album yet.

“Chairlift’s ‘Moth’ is a shape-shifting wonder of an alternative pop album, and it’s one of 2016’s best.” - Billboard

Australian fans have embraced CHAIRLIFT for years, with a string of accredited hits like Bruises, Amanaemonesia, Ch-Ching and Sidewalk Safari, helping to draw in audiences across the country. Their latest album ‘Moth’ is no exception, featuring a collection of mega hits that give off an upbeat synth vibe, and husky vocals that punctuate airwaves from the get go.

“This is a record where love, music and love for music come together beautifully.” - Rolling Stone

These Brooklyn experimentalists have spent that past 12 months performing at star-studded festivals including SXSW, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival and National Sawdust. Their latest single ‘Romeo’ is another superb addition to the couples catalog. Now, hot off the heels of a successful US and UK tour, CHAIRLIFT fans can rejoice as the band announces their highly anticipated return to Australia.

“They have a charming asymmetry, they drift in sometimes oblique and irregular patterns. This is pop that wants to show you what it’s made of.” - Pitchfork

“There is something there, then; something that belongs to Polachek and Wimberley. Something relentlessly, unavoidably unique. Something quintessentially Chairlift” - The Brag

Armed with a truly unique, engaging and infectious live show, don’t miss CHAIRLIFT in 2016.

Chairlift was amazing...the rest was garbage

by ChocoThunda on 3/28/12Brighton Music Hall - Boston

I saw Chairlift on Monday night at the Brighton Music Hall. It was my first show at the BMH and I was thoroughly impressed with the venue, the service at the bar, and the extra aspects of the venue (pool, tvs, and thank god for the chairs around the place). The first two bands were pretty horrible and they were completely forgettable. The first band sounded like something out of a high school garage and it was impossible to understand most of what the second band’s singer sang. Once Chairlift came out things really began to kick into gear. They played a nice collection of new hits of their latest album and sprinkled in some old hits (they didn’t play Bruises which I’m sure bothered some people). The singer’s voice is amazing and her talent is very evident. I would certainly see them again and would recommend them to anyone who loves talented singing and playing. My only complaint is that they came on so late for a Monday night concert. They came on a little after 11 and pretty much finished at midnight (including their encore). If they want to feel like a big boy then they should have come out earlier and played later.

Chairlift was really cool in concert. They sound exactly like they do on the record.

    Eeeehhhhhhh

by QnBzBee on 1/25/12Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

A drunk fan jumps on the stage and the singer starts spazzing out and pushing her away. It was a very inappropriate reaction and snotty for no reason. The fan was just trying to jam out and have a good time, Im sure it was not intended to be malicious in any way. Technical issues during the show were also disruptive making it hard to get into a flow.
