Carolina Hurricanes History

The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Hartford, Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have made the playoffs 11 times, captured six division championships, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship.

The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Game at Lenovo Center, where they play their home games. When the Hurricanes made the playoffs in 2001, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions New Jersey Devils, they lost the series but came back from a 3-0 deficit to force a sixth game — marking what many believed to be the start of real hockey in the Research Triangle.

The 2005-2006 season marked the best in the Hurricanes' history, as the team finished with 112 points, beating the previous franchise-best record of 94 points. They ended up beating the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, marking the first time in NHL history that two former World Hockey Association teams faced off in the Final.

  • The Arena was great the parking was not

by JDW on 11/21/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

I got these tickets for my friends birthday who is a huge fan. The arena and the food was great. However, the parking situation was bad. It took us forever to get to the arena since every street was blocked off... and there was no real signage for the Lyft and Uber drivers to pick up their passengers. No one seemed to know where drop off was and passengers were waiting close to an hour to leave the arena. All the traffic controllers made it worse. Sadly... The parking situation was enough to sour the experience for me. I have to think twice about coming again

  • Exciting Night Out

by Ronsky on 11/21/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Hurricanes games are a blast. Movement around the arena is easy, the team is solid, the non-hockey spectacles are entertaining (pre-game, between plays, etc.), and the crowd was excited. All-in-all, a great experience.

  • Low energy atmosphere

by Loewen Frankfurt on 10/30/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Being used to sporting events in Germany with standing room only fan sections consisting of drums, flags and singing fans the atmosphere in North Carolina was extremely somber. At times you could hear a pin drop despite the fact that excellent hockey was being played for the fans.

  • Disappointment and mixed feelings

by Pete on 10/29/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 3 out of 5

Venue and the show was great but the home team performance for the first two periods was awfull. Hope that they would try to tackle more in the first period to spark up themselves and spectators. It was not worth the money until 3rd period.

  • Always a great time!

by Barb on 9/29/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

We love our Canes! They always acknowledge their fans and put on a great show, as do Stormy and all the announcers. The recognition of so many great individuals (veterans, Governor Morehead student attendees, siren sounders, etc.) really shines a spotlight on our community. The time out amusements are so much fun, and the roving cameras capture some interesting scenes too. Canes fans are the best and they make the total game experience 100%. Wonderful, clean, safe facility, great seats, easy access to food and drink, plenty of helpful staff to assist with whatever you need, the list goes on....It's always a great time at a Carolina Hurricanes game!

  • Excellent Experience

by MrFzekiller on 6/28/23Rating: 4 out of 5

Great atmosphere, Great team, But some questionable parking choices. Overall going to a Canes game is a great experience and I highly recommend it but make sure to get there early so you can get good parking spots cause they get taken up fast

  • Canes games at PNC are FANtastic

    by Erikson17 on 6/13/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

We always have a blast at these games with the family. From interaction with staff and other fellow caniacs to the fun things to do while walking around between periods to eat or shop or a quick visit with friends who are also at the game and the facility and the outside parking lot pregame excitment, we just love all of it and have an enjoyable fun time every single time

  • Great experience

by Honeybunny on 5/14/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

We had a great time at the game, getting in to parking was a bit of a challenge but it was manageable.

  • no hot water

    by D. J. on 5/12/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

PNC shuts off the hot water for every hockey game. Don't we pay enough to get hot water? PNC grade "F"

  • Great experience!

by Jackie on 5/12/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Rooted for the opposing team but it was a great time! Friendly atmosphere, clean venue, great security!

  • Very good

by Anneell on 5/8/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Great seats, easy access with mobile wallet price too high

  • So smooth

by Snow on 5/8/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Everything went so smoothly. It was a great experience for the family.

  • LOVE THE GAMES

    by CanesFan2023 on 4/24/23Rating: 4 out of 5

Love going to PNC to see the Canes play however I do agree with what several others have said regarding width of seats. These days most people need the 'plus size' seating (me included so I am not fat-shaming at all!) and I think the arena could afford to change the chairs. Otherwise the vendors are great, restrooms are clean, arena staff are helpful and and parking is efficient.

  • Fun outing

    by L. H. on 3/29/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

We flew in from Connecticut just to see the game with some friends. The venue was nice. The parking area was good. The only complaint I would have is the poor sportsmanship like attitude with the “cheaters never win sign” on the big board when the Bruins got a penalty. Let’s face it… Penalties are part of the game!

  • Rangers Game

by Ann on 3/27/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Great game and fun arena. Arena is easy to get to but could use more help with getting car share out

  • Awesome

by Leaf fan on 3/26/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

This is a great place to watch a hockey game! Friendly people (except one individual...for which several people quickly apologized). Truly geat experience.

  • Canes games are always fun!

by Noey on 3/26/23PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

While we actually didn't go to watch the Canes (Rangers fans), the games are always fun & the arena is clean & the workers are polite. Even in the upper level, the view is good. We loved tailgating in the nice weather beforehand as well.
