Carolina Hurricanes History

The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Hartford, Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have made the playoffs 11 times, captured six division championships, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship.

The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Game at Lenovo Center, where they play their home games. When the Hurricanes made the playoffs in 2001, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions New Jersey Devils, they lost the series but came back from a 3-0 deficit to force a sixth game — marking what many believed to be the start of real hockey in the Research Triangle.

The 2005-2006 season marked the best in the Hurricanes' history, as the team finished with 112 points, beating the previous franchise-best record of 94 points. They ended up beating the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, marking the first time in NHL history that two former World Hockey Association teams faced off in the Final.

It was easy and helpful to find tickets. I liked that you could see where they were before you purchased them. But, the 'extras' need to be explained a little better. I bought a parking pass but when we got to the parking area the gentleman had a little trouble getting the code from phone to work until he did something that accepted my ticket code. Thankful to the man who knew what he was doing. All in all I will go back when I need tickets.

  • Penguins Home Game

by anewfantoo on 2/27/18PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

The crowd was more like a Pens home game than a Canes game, but since we're Pens fans that was great. one suggestion for the arena, when you know you're going to have a big crowd open ALL of the concession stands and staff them for the crowds. You never know, some of these people may come back for a non-pens game...

Great game, fabulous seats, good atmosphere. Sitting in row T section 111, I had trouble seeing over all the employees standing in the driveway where the Zamboni comes in when 5 or 6 of them went up to the glass when the play was at that net. I couldn't see anything going on behind the net. I understand the goal judge might have to be there and maybe 1 maintenance guy.. but often there were many ''civilians'' there as well as many maintenance people, all this while the PLAY was on. I know they love hockey too or wouldn't be there. BUT.. they are getting paid to be there, and I paid over $100 to see the game and couldn't. I did mention this to a very nice male usher after the 2nd period. He said he'd pass it on. I hope this helps the next person in Section 111. Go Canes

  • Second game ever

by GiantNamedTaylor on 2/21/18PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

We came back because of the Fanuary promotion and had a blast just like the first time. It was Military appreciation night which made it that much more fun. It was a sold out night and the energy was electric. The only downfall was the staff scanning our tickets in the building. The gentleman wasn't properly trained how to scan the tickets. They made us go to the ticket booth and eventually to another VIP booth to finally clear things up so we could enjoy the game. They were relucutant to let us in. It was a huge blunder and hopefully they will look at this as a teachable moment for staff going forward. The actual game was a blast and most of the staff was welcoming.

  • Great time, great facility.

PNC arena has their act together. I drive all the way from Greensboro just to see shows in that facility. It's worth the trip.

  • Canes Game

by BLBK on 2/9/18PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

We had a great time at the Canes game against the Flyers. We noticed some changes probably due to the new owner.

  • Exciting Finish

    by archPA2NC on 2/9/18PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Being from Philly and living in Raleigh only the last 6 months it was great to be able to take advantage of a promotion to see the Flyers play. It is disappointing to see how the interest here in Raleigh area has fallen. I do wish the new owner of the team good luck in revitalizing interest in the Hurricanes and continued promotions should help the attendance .

It was odd being surrounded by red wings fans & disappointing to watch the Hurricanes lose but it happens I guess.

  • Canes Vs Sharks

by MrBruce on 2/7/18PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 2 out of 5

As a family we attend several Canes games each season. This year there are many discounted events and seating, so we’re going more often. We always enjoy the game, regardless of the outcome The game vs the Sharks was less than stellar for the Canes. They played very flat and struggled the entire game. They couldn’t connect passes and their timing seemed off. They definitely were outplayed in this game

  • Good Game! If you are a Red Wings fan.

by SteamrollerFanette on 2/6/18PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Always enjoy seeing NHL games at PNC Arena. Good food options, very clean facility, reasonable parking fees...compared with other arenas. Like the Canes..hope they improve. Red Wing played a great game on Feb 2nd. Seats were in Section 103, behind visitor's bench. Great viewing of the entire game.

  • Hockey Hockey Hockey

    by rockdoctor22 on 2/5/18PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

PNC Arena is a solid venue for sporting events. It was clean, up to date, and really not a bad seat in the place. My tickets were in the nosebleeds, but I didn't feel like I was out of the action. I could see everything I needed to. The company of my fellow hockey fans was fantastic. Even though I was cheering for the road team, it was easy to talk to my neighbours and enjoyed the friendly banter. I would go back even if my team wasn't playing.

  • Awesome Red Wing Win!

Seats were good ... game was exciting ... facility was nice ... fans were hospitable ... before and after game activities included good food and great beer!

Family friendly, enthusiastic crowd, great interaction. I came from the beach. First game, but not my last.

  • Nice Arena - Excellent game - Wonderful amenities

by ConnecticutChris on 1/15/18PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Made the trip to check out colleges and chose to take in a Hurricane game PNC Arena was clean and the people were amazing. Parking was the only reason I didn't give it an amazing venue rating. It was a little confusing to park and took a while to navigate getting out. Getting to the arena was a breeze. Other than that the food was great, even the concession folks were friendly and helpful. Great job Raleigh you're amazing, and so is your team. Sorry for the loss but you're all winners in my book. Much better than going to an NY game - would go back again when I'm in the area.
