Carolina Hurricanes History
The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Hartford, Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have made the playoffs 11 times, captured six division championships, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship.
The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Game at Lenovo Center, where they play their home games. When the Hurricanes made the playoffs in 2001, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions New Jersey Devils, they lost the series but came back from a 3-0 deficit to force a sixth game — marking what many believed to be the start of real hockey in the Research Triangle.
The 2005-2006 season marked the best in the Hurricanes' history, as the team finished with 112 points, beating the previous franchise-best record of 94 points. They ended up beating the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, marking the first time in NHL history that two former World Hockey Association teams faced off in the Final.

In 2019, the arena hosted the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in 10 years and set a single-game record with 19,495 fans in attendance. We had bad seats. We were behind an obstruction that was not shown when we bought the tickets..
Professional and courteous personnel who wished my grandson and me Merry Christmas numerous times. A well kept and clean arena. Exit traffic was the only negative.
Was a great time. Good family experience on Sunday afternoon (and a victory!). Go Canes!
wanted to come back. that’s a new thing with the hurricanes
So sorry I waited so long to attend a Hurricanes game. It was a blast. I am a Capitals fan and had been meaning to get to a game in Raleigh and it finally worked out. Very professional organization and the crowd could not have been more gracious or respectful. Look forward to returning soon.
Fun energy! Great stadium and good priced tickets.
Loved going to PNC for an Islanders/Canes hockey game. Especially since my Isles won 2-1! PNC is a very welcoming place. Ticketmaster goofed up my seating and the people at the arena corrected the error immediately and were very accommodating. Great 5-Star venue.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, one of the best games we've ever seen there!.
Beautiful arena. Design well thought out. All amenities were close by, did not have to walk far to find a bathroom, etc. Very handicap friendly (was travelling with someone handicapped). Parking was hassle free. It was a bonus seeing NC State stadium right next door! Will come back!
I wish the concessions are a little more affordable but it’s always a nice treat! Canes games are fun!
Great venue to watch a hockey game! Action, Action..... Good music to keep the crowd involved BUT... I still think it's too loud in the building. Announcer and music could be turned down a notch.
Need to reduce prices and fill up the arena. It was 10% filled at best. I felt embarrassed for the Hurricanes.
hockey was good. weird communal shaming of the opposing team when they were in the time-out box extremely bad. ten year old boy behind me who kept kicking my seat and screaming obscenities likewise bad. all staff very nice and professional. one of them fistbumped me. too many youths yelling but i got to see nicklas backstrom in all his eldritch beauty so that made up for it. 8/10 would recommend.
We've been to many NHL rinks in our day but we recently bought tickets to the Carolina/Tampa Bay preseason game at PNC Arena in Raleigh on September 19th. Facility is first-rate & the staff are incredibly hospitable. Yeah, arena food is stupid-expensive but the overall experience of Hurricane Hockey, their fans & the rink were very enjoyable. Pulling up to the arena was like driving to the local mall; get out of your vehicle & walk 30 steps to the front door. Leaving the property was a breeze too.
Hockey game was high energy in nice PNC arena. Music and fan participation were great
A splurge for seats on the glass, behind the goal laid the framework for an exciting evening. While the two teams are struggling right now the individual players are putting out the effort. The cost of the seat was worth the entertainment ~ the overhead and processing charges, no that is another story !~!~!
The stadium is a wonderful place to watch game. Great food venues. We had a great time.
Great time! Too bad they had another 3rd period meltdown - no pun intended. Two rows behind players bench - wife loved that! Great seat for all the action. Highly recommend the experience! Great date night time!
What an exciting game, and great time had by all. The only disappointment was that the Hurricanes lost :(
The game was excellent. The only complaint we have is whomever is in charge of the music in the PNC Arena. They played loud music non stop. Before the game, during tv timeouts and even during brief stoppages during the game. It was so annoying. Why would any arena do that? If anyone from PNC Arena reads this, or, if you know someone that works there, please pass this along. Please stop blasting music! Just let the fans enjoy the sights and sounds of the game and audience. My rating was 1 star simply because the ridiculous and nonstop music was terrible. We went to an NHL Hockey game and not a rock concert.
