Carolina Hurricanes History

The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Hartford, Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have made the playoffs 11 times, captured six division championships, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship.

The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Game at Lenovo Center, where they play their home games. When the Hurricanes made the playoffs in 2001, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions New Jersey Devils, they lost the series but came back from a 3-0 deficit to force a sixth game — marking what many believed to be the start of real hockey in the Research Triangle.

The 2005-2006 season marked the best in the Hurricanes' history, as the team finished with 112 points, beating the previous franchise-best record of 94 points. They ended up beating the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, marking the first time in NHL history that two former World Hockey Association teams faced off in the Final.

The staff was very helpful. They remained vigilant during every whistle, especially when the puck goes into the crowd to ensure fans’ safety.

Great place to see a game, section 206, food was great, view was great, staff very helpful. Expensive yes, but worth a night out, in one place not to many people in the section. Pandemic protocols kept us safe.

  • Amazing Experience

by Mo Salah on 10/17/21PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

I had an amazing time at the Hurricanes game. Getting into the arena took a while due to heavy traffic, but other than that the experience went very smoothly. I was able to park with a walking distance of 5-10 minutes from the arena. Being able to add the tickets to my wallet and have them simply scan my phone made the whole process a breeze.

  • Great to be back at PNC!

by Barb on 10/1/21PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Fast & fun preseason game! Got to watch some of the newbies perform, and they did pretty well overall, especially the $6M man Kotkaniemi. Also enjoyed seeing some returning favorites like Trochek & Neiderreiter. Bolts of course did not use most of their big guns, but still a fun time! Caniacs are awesome!

  • Always fun to be here, even as an away fan

by Jeremy on 6/4/21Rating: 5 out of 5

I've been to a handful of games at PNC Arena and each one is always exciting to be at. Lots of fan interaction, leg room, not too cold, and certainly not the worst concession prices. I'd recommend to any hockey fan if this is their closest arena.

Ticketmaster app is great, easy to find and purchase tickets. Venue is great. "Loudest house in the NHL". Free parking, great tailgating, awesome fans and friendly and professional staff.

  • Obstructed View

    by A. Y. on 4/30/21Rating: 3 out of 5

I live outside of NC and had never been to PNC. Bought tickets in section 317 Row G. Tickets were NOT labeled as obstructed view but the cameraman in front of us literally took up half of the ice surface including the closest goal to us. Fortunately, the arena was not sold out. Talked to a super friendly usher who was able to find us seats in another section. Nice surprise was that I didn't have to pay to park at the arena!

  • Loved it!

  • Great hockey game day

by John on 2/21/20PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Plenty of handicapped accessible parking near the entrance. Staff was vey quick to escort my son who is in a motorized wheelchair through the check in line. Plenty of elevators, operators very friendly. Our club 200 level seats were given to a "band set up area" so we were moved to the 100 level area, suppose it was an upgrade, but kind of doubt it. Closer but not as nice of an area. Concessions were very basic, no souvenir stadium cups or popcorn tubs. Didn't seem to have many family bathrooms. $20 to park...too expensive. However, it was a very exciting game and environment.

  • Canes vs Oilers

by Maiven on 2/19/20PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

The entire process, from purchasing tickets and parking went smoothly. Access to the PNC Arena handicap parking area went well and without a hitch. Entry into the arena and seating was also smooth. Eating venues varied and ran well .... no long waiting lines.

  • 1st NHL Game

by VanFan on 2/5/20PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

My brother and I visited the PNC Arena on 2/2/2020 for our 1st NHL game to celebrate his visit from Utica to Fort Mill. Prior to this we had experienced AHL in Mass, CLT and Utica. We purchased our tickets months in advance and were pleasantly surprised at just how good they were! We were able to see everything! The event staff, food and beer choices were excellent. Although Van lost it was a truly memorable experience!

  • Great game, great seats, and a friendly staff.

by Edsuppo on 1/22/20PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

All was great except getting out of the parking lot at the end of the game. Our lot at the East entrance was very slow leaving compared to the other lots.
