Carolina Hurricanes History

The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Hartford, Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have made the playoffs 11 times, captured six division championships, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship.

The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Game at Lenovo Center, where they play their home games. When the Hurricanes made the playoffs in 2001, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions New Jersey Devils, they lost the series but came back from a 3-0 deficit to force a sixth game — marking what many believed to be the start of real hockey in the Research Triangle.

The 2005-2006 season marked the best in the Hurricanes' history, as the team finished with 112 points, beating the previous franchise-best record of 94 points. They ended up beating the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, marking the first time in NHL history that two former World Hockey Association teams faced off in the Final.

  • Fantastic Experience at Hurricanes vs. Rangers Game!

by Hockey Fan on 3/23/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Everything went smoothly from having our tickets scanned to leaving the arena. The graphics on the big screen and the ice were unbelievable, the music was definitely enough to get the crowd excited and the teams were terrific! The fans were incredible and were really into the game with a ton of enthusiasm. There are lots of venues for food and souvenirs & lots of room for the crowds to walk to & from their seats. Five star experience!

  • Excellent ushers and security

by LwcntryGirl on 3/21/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Appreciated a fantastic and friendly atmosphere with great food and seats. Only bad experience happened at the end of the third when some boys decided to relocate into our section to try and start a fight…appreciated the quick action of the ushers and security officers who threw them out. For most part all fans coexisted peacefully.

  • Great game, not much food, lousy pd parking

    by S. T. on 3/21/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 3 out of 5

For $20 parking why did I have to park a 10 minute walk away and not inside the arena? We were directed to park in the NC State lot. Also at the second intermission there was no food to be found anywhere.

  • Great game!

by Nanny on 3/21/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Parking was easy. Great game & well organized for the exiting of the game.

  • GREAT EXPERIENCE

by Ashley on 3/21/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Everything was great! The arena was very nice. My husband and I had a great time. Parking was easy getting in was easy. No problems at all.

  • Excellent Venue, except for the lack of leg room

by Jerk on 3/21/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

The arena is really nice. One of the nicest we have been too, and the fans were nice too, for both teams. The only downside is a short person must have designed the seating. My wife is fairly short, and her knees about touched the seat in front of her. I am 6' and there was no way for me to sit without having my knees spread out into the space next to me, luckily that seat was empty. My suggestion would be to get an isle seat if you are average, or tall. And these were seats just a few rows back from the glass, so not the cheap seats.

  • Caps V Canes

    by Bondra12 on 3/21/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Nice venue. GR8 game. Interesting to see what other franchises do for their fans.

  • Had a great time

by Doug on 3/15/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Had a great time at the game prices for tickets and concessions high but still had a great time.

  • We had a great time!

by Brenda - CANIAC on 3/15/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

We shared the experience with our teenage granddaughters. They enjoyed it - actually got them off their phones for a little while!

  • Great arena and really not a bad seat in the house

by Wray on 3/15/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

My Flyers lost but I have love for the Canes! The seats were at the top and still the view was great.

  • Great Atmosphere, Terrible Chairs

    by GoFlyers84 on 3/15/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 2 out of 5

The PNC Arena is very welcoming. Good food, stores, etc. and very easy to get around. The one complaint I have always had about this building is the seating. The seats are far too small. I am 6’1 so I am tall but by no means a giant and my knees were smashed up against the seat in front of me and against the cup holder. Plus I’m not the smallest person in the world but the seats are so uncomfortably small it really took away from the experience.

  • Wonderful time! Great day out with family

    by Suzieque12 on 3/12/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Great seats, good time with family visiting from NY. Love the game, even if they lost that day. Recommend eating before you go. Quite expensive there. Got pretzels and popcorn, both were cold. Love going to see the Canes!!

  • Awesome Event

by William on 3/9/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great sporting event. I have barely watched any hockey before, bit it is much better live than with jerky tv cameras. There is not a bad seat in this entire arena.

  • GREAT ARENA

by TRVMAN on 3/2/22PNC Arena - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

First trip to PNC arena. VERY impressed with the arena. VERY clean arena (not all arena's are clean) and very comfortable seats. Parking was very well organized. Hurricanes seem to try and make the games family oriented not just because it was Kids day. Nice to not have seen/heard some drunk yelling and causing a problem.

  • Awesome
