    Absolute Magic

by rachface07 on 7/27/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

Carney is a truly unquie band. They are extremely talented and their love for what they do shines on stage. The sounds that come out of these boys are pure magic. This was my first time seeing them live and I went in with high expectations. Needless to say they exceeded those expectations and I would 100% recommend everyone to take a listen. If you have a respect for pure musical talent, then you will enjoy Carney.

Carney was the most intimate concert

by jacthemusiclover on 7/27/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

This concert was truly amazing. The crowd was peaceful and the music was unforgettable. It felt like Carney rolled their music into a big joint and together we slowly inhaled. Zane plays guitar like a God and Reeve has a vocal range that is indescribable.

    Carney Rocks the Ballroom!!

by RockPhD on 7/27/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

Forget the Spider-Man buzz you've been hearing about ... this band really shines when they're on stage performing their own music. This performance revealed that Carney is definitely ready for arena rock ... and they will get the chance to prove it when they open for Arcade Fire & U2 for the last concert of the 360 World Tour on July 30th in Moncton, New Brunswick. As co-author of a rock history textbook (7th edition, Prentice-Hall), I have had the opportunity to listen to tons of popular music over the past four decades ... recorded and live. Carney's "Mr. Green, Vol. 1," released earlier this year was, simply put, one of the most creative - if largely unpromoted - releases of 2011. The band's obvious musical influences include Queen, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin ... not a bad collection from which to draw! Though the music is innovative and complex at times, these superb musicians pull it off with perfection in live performance. The performance on July 25th was almost a two full hours of incredible rock 'n' roll! Not only did they play many of their most recognizable songs from past performances, EPs, & their full-length CD, there were a number of new songs, some of which they had never performed live before. This is a highly creative band with a bright future and loads of innovation to come! Reeve Carney (lead vocal & rhythm/lead guitar) serves as primary songwriter for the group, leading the group musically and visually on the stage. Zane Carney (lead guitar & backing vocals) provides incredible soundscapes on his guitar, a la David Gilmour at his very best. Zane's stunning technique on the guitar is equally important to the band's sound as Reeve's lead vocal, extending from adventurously chromatic jazz licks ("Amelie") to hardcore rock ("Resurrection"). As a bassist myself, I can attest that Aiden Moore's (bass & backing vocals) melodic bass lines rival those of Paul McCartney at his pinnacle (a la "Abbey Road"). If you haven't checked out Aiden's solo effort ("As Good As New"), download it from iTunes today! Finally, Jon Epcar pulls it all together ... he was particularly "on" for this performance, rocking the house with his impeccable time keeping and subtle percussionist flare (xylophone at the beginning of "Tomorrow's Another Day"). Though the Broadway musical has been a unique opportunity for this band, their passion for performance truly shines when playing their own music. This is a band of high school friends who have grown together impressively over the past decade plus. Carney is THE up-and-coming band to watch ... you can be assured I will be at the Bowery Ballroom (or anywhere else the band plays) when I am in the area. Keep them coming back!!

I was unclear who was allowed in the balcony? Was that open as well? It looked like it was being watched at one pint but then it seemed like anyone could go up.

    So good. So...DAMN...good.

by DemonBarber1989 on 2/18/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

Simply put, Carney brought the house down! Easily one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I became a huge fan of the band when I picked up their debut album, Mr. Green, Vol 1 last year, and I can say in complete seriousness that it is my favorite album of 2010, BAR NONE. They are incredible musicians, and Reeve Carney is a RIDICULOUSLY talented singer (he's putting a up a strong fight against Tim McIlrath of Rise Against as my favorite rock vocalist). Made a Valentine's Day without a valentine easily bearable. I swear on a stack of Calvin & Hobbes books that I will attend every concert of theirs that I am able to. Itunes carries Mr. Green, so you have NO excuse not to own this fantastic album. Music doesn't get better than this people.

    Do yourself a favor..

by Staygold on 2/17/11Bowery Ballroom - New York

And SEE Carney live. Listening to their songs on iTunes alone, does not do the band justice. Their live collective energy is a spectacle to behold and one you will not regret. Carney has the musical prowess that makes one believe in good music again, where you instantaneously know, on an intrinsic level- that they will be around for years to come.

Reeves vocal range - mind blowing, Zane - killer on electric guitar...Aiden - award winning Bass player...Jon drums - out of this world but a world you become a part of! His drum solo is beyond description! I've seen them at an outdoor venue, a shoebox venue and this last time at The Bowery....Now I hear they are going to open for U2 along with Arcade Fire! Yes...they are 'arena ready' but catch them in smaller venues while you can! Set list included Queen - Bohemian Rhapsodyand the Beatles - She's so Heavy ...along with my fav's from Mr Green Volume 1 and a few new 'teasers' from their next album!

Carney kicked like a caged animal

by jebbiesan on 2/16/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

These guys are the real, 14 karat thing. gold plated rockers. great taste. brave cover choices and audacious renderings...but utterly respectful of the cannon. the music is first rate and brings to mind any number of great bands...beatles, zepplin...without seeming to imitate anyone or anything. the sweat is real...the event has a religious fervor...and the effect is riveting. i suppose the greatest trick is that they take the assignment seriously without seeming to take themselves overly seriously. a very neat trick.

    Knockout performance

by bananamonkey on 2/16/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

A timeless sound is what they are going for, and a timeless sound is what they have created. Carney's stage presence is full of power and passion, mixed with light-hearted fun. The pure joy of their work can be seen in their faces and body language, as well as the cohesiveness of the group. Their sound and quality may be too complex for the general masses, but will surely create die-hard fans (like myself!). Amazing performance - can't wait to see them again.

Carney:Outstanding Music, Ability & Stage Presence

by thom1850 on 2/16/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

Very few new acts show up that stand out and command you personally from the stage. Very few show an elogance while still giving you a big body rockin' sound. This is CARNEY. The rhythm section (drummer Jon Epcar and bassist Aiden Moore) is solid. Jon reminds me of Led Zep's John Bonham, while Aiden has a subtle yet very dynamic presence and similarly reminds me of Zep's John Paul Jones. These two guys provide the backdrop for the Carney brothers, Reeve & Zane. First, Zane's talents are very eclectic and I suspect has as much a background in jazz as he does in the powerful, delicate sounds he crafts from his many guitars. Brother Reeve hands down, a very good mix of the vocals of Freddie Mercury and Robert Plant. I have heard of no other up and coming rock singer with these unique qualities in a very long time. Not to mention he is also working as an actor in the new Spider Man musical on Broadway; music provided by Bono & The Edge. Watch this band and see them early & often.

I knew they were good, but I had no idea HOW good

by Marsacademy on 2/16/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

I've only recently become a Carney fan, after seeing Reeve Carney in "Tempest" with Helen Mirren, and then twice onstage in Spiderman. Bought Mr. Green, Vol 1 and liked it, so I decided to time a trip to NYC to coincide with their concert. I was totally blown away by these guys. The songs - both their own and the covers - were just brilliant. There was time and space allowed for pretty much every band member to get the spotlight, although of course Reeve was generally the center of attention. I can't say enough about their musicianship - they just ROCKED in every possible way.

    Carney, the band.

by debsam on 2/16/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

Last night at the Bowery Ballroom on Delancey Street in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the band called Carney rocked the house at $12.00 per ticket. Standing room only, as for general admission, there wasn't a bad place to stand. Carney consists of two brothers, Reeve and Zane Carney. They have a sister Paris but she was not there. I read online that she plays percussion with the band but after checking her out online, she's got the family gene. The band also has a bass player and drummer. The family gene that runs rampant through this family is music, and dead stops at Reeve. His industrious vocals and haunting melodies permeate whatever room the music plays in. The concert was phenomenal, such a small fan base for them to be playing at such a small venue. The sign said, "it is unlawful to hold more than 398 persons". Reeve Carney sweats a lot and shakes it off in an unobtrusive sexy way. he's so hot, i wanted to wipe the sweat from his brow. Since discovering the existence of this band, from catching a song playing on a music channel on cable TV, I've been entranced. Enthralled. I have been listening to the album, which I bought from my favorite music website where each song costs nine cents. We play it loud, so when Reeve screams I'm nothing without you, you feel it in your bones. Instrumentally, this band is strong. Heavy riffs on the guitar by brother Zane. But you gotta wonder, why such a small fan base? The audience appeared incomprehensible as to the power of this band, the viability of their product in this society where a band I never even heard of wins best album at the Grammy Awards. Mr. Green Vol. 1 should have been a contender. Only now that Reeve is playing Peter Parker on Broadway does there seem to be a buzz about him.

    Carney Rocked!

by NYANDREW71 on 2/16/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

I came in not knowing what to expect, simply word of mouth, and found the band to be simply amazing -- such a refreshing Rock & Roll break from crappy Top 40. I hope they find time to hit the venue again and would tell folks to check them out. It was a great time, and I didn' even notice I was standing for more than two hours. Folks who simply know them from Spiderman: Turn off the Dark will be shocked to see what they are personally capable of when out on their own. I wish them nothing but success. (There was a guy who pushed up front in a Spiderman mask, he freaked me out in a scary way).
