great weather, even better Blues
by growlerhill on 10/4/10Canton Multipurpose Complex - CantonUnfortunately, 95 year old Honey Boy Edwards was not able to get this party started. The MC said that Edwards was robbed and shaken-up a night prior to this event while in Chicago, IL. But, things were all good when King Edwards, Grady Champion, and Eddie Cotton performed sets lasting about 45-minutes apiece. Midnight Star really got the small crowd (1,200--1,500) dancing with their performance and signature songs like Freak-azoid. Star seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the fans enjoyed watching and dancing. The last act featured members of the Bar-kays and The Dazz Band as a group. The ten members performed their signature songs as well as unfamiliar tunes. Overall, the sound quality and stage set-up were excellent. This is a very nice setting for an outdoor festival. Only the Bar-kays had merchandise for sale, and they were gracious enough to sign autographs for the fans after their performance. Since it was a small gathering, I got to meet several of the other performers, but it would have been even more fun, if they all had brought merchandise to sell and autograph.
