About

CAMERA OBSCURA IN CONCERT:

Scottish darlings Camera Obscura have been a staple on the indie rock scene ever since their 2001 debut album Biggest Bluest Hi Fi established them as modern torchbearers of the genre's more wistful, melancholy varieties. At the band's stylish live shows, the plaintive vocals of Tracyanne Campbell float whimsically over the band's jangly guitar and percussion work, creating a lush atmosphere that lets gems like "Eighties Fan" and "I Love My Jean" really shine.  The songs may be dreamy, but the band never gets lost in the clouds -- they treat their material with a refreshing energy that never fails to satisfy on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Camera Obscura formed in Glasgow in 1996 and made their recording debut in 1998 with "Park and Ride". Their 2001 full-length debut Biggest Bluest Hi Fi was produced by Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch, and was a hit with critics and fans alike for heavily-blogged tracks like the starry-eyed "Eighties Fan". In 2006 they made their first appearance on the UK Albums Chart with their third LP Let's Get Out of This Country, an effort that landed them a deal with legendary British label 4AD. In 2013 the band released their fifth album Desire Lines, cracking the Top 40 in the UK and thrilling fans around the world with a series of unforgettable concerts in support of the record.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"What a fabulous voice and band! A pure pleasure to experience."

"Wow! This show was fantastic! Everything sounded pretty much perfect. The trumpet player/random percussionist was so much fun to watch... looked like he was having a great time."

"Their stage setup was indeed simple. nothing fancy and no backdrop. but the performance was definitely amazing with them playing most of their hit singles including 'French Navy'. Tracyanne was as vogue as always and the whole band displayed outstanding showmanship."

Wow! This show was fantastic! Everything sounded pretty much perfect. Almost all of the songs I really wanted to hear were played. The venue was gorgeous. And the band was soo great. The trumpet player/random percussionist was so much fun to watch... looked like he was having a great time.

    Way too short

by Prolagus on 6/8/10Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom - New York

It wasn't bad, but I can't say I loved this concert. I think fans deserve a little more than 90 minutes - and the day before, they had a free, short performance at the Brooklyn Flea that lasted one hour. :-(

The bands sounded great, but singers distorted.

It was a real pity that the singers were over miked. The acts were in fine form, and actually sounded good from the back of the hall.

Great show at a great venue! The sound was amazing. The even brought an extra string quartet and a horn player, so it sounded just like the records!

The show was good. In my opinion it was a little bit too short though. Camera Obscura has so many songs in their portfolio that they could have loaded the show with some more extra numbers. Yet it was a nice performance and the band appears ready for a new album. As a fan this news is perhaps better than anything else.

The Love Language was an excellent and vibrant opening band! They complemented Camera Obscuar's music very well. As for the main band, Camera Obscura was phenomenal, but I may be biased since they are one of my absolute favorite musical groups. They aren't very energetic compared to some bands, but that should be expected if you know anything relatively about them. They sounded great and I waited patiently with a few other fans afterwards to meet them and they happily signed autographs and took pictures. It was delightful!

    Great sound!

There were six of them on stage and they managed to reproduce the recordings wonderfully. The venue was quite good as well three bars on the floor and one upstairs.
