Calexico in Concert

Calexico is currently touring with Iron & Wine. Calexico and Iron & Wine first made an artistic connection with In the Reins, the 2005 EP that brought Sam Beam, Joey Burns and John Convertino together. The acclaimed collaboration introduced both acts to wider audiences and broadened Beam's artistic horizons, but it was the shared experience of touring together in the tradition of Bob Dylan's "Rolling Thunder Revue" that cemented their bond. Their metaphorical roads diverged in the years that followed, but they kept in touch and cross-pollinated where they could. But although they often talked about rekindling their collaboration in the studio and on the stage, it wasn't until last year that their schedules aligned. Calexico and Iron & Wine have announced Years to Burn, their first full–length album together, available June 14th via City Slang in the UK/Europe and Sub Pop in the rest of the world.

    A Big Disappointment

by J. A. on 10/9/19Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Very disappointed because they didn’t play any of their most popular songs. It almost seems like it was done on purpose.

    Incredible date night

by S. A. on 10/8/19Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

My partner loves Iron & Wine and has never been able to see them so of course I splurged on the dinner and seats package. About 130$ each, which includes the dinner (gratuity and drinks not included) and seating in row 5 center stage. Now, like the other reviews, the seating at the concert venue is ridiculous. Two days later and I'm still having some pain in my back. Luckily, the people on either side of us were really cool. There was however a lot of side touching and butts sliding across my arms and what have you. A lot of things just happened to work out, the weather was just cold enough that we weren't all sticky and the crowd was pretty decent. The show all around was just wonderful. I enjoyed the open air and intimacy of the venue. Would definitely see again, just maybe at a different venue. Overall, worth it for a magical date and making dreams come true!

    Great Music, Bad Sound

by Sheriffofasmalltown on 10/7/19Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

There was definitely something wrong with the sound. After the first song multiple people in the crowd were hollering "louder!" It was a big bummer and ruined a great show.

Had a great time, loved the music, positivity, energy, sentimentality and showmanship of the entire band, especially lead singer Joey Burns. Highly recommend!

Calexico & Gaby Moreno were faaantastic!

by BritsinTown on 6/12/15Bowery Ballroom - New York

We were on our first trip to NY from England, UK & wanted to see a band...we chose Calexico as we were staying nearby to the Bowery Ballroom. We'd never seen or heard Calexico (or Gaby) before & were blown away by them both...can't wait to see them again if they tour England or Europe.

    Calexico

by DanielJ1 on 6/11/15Bowery Ballroom - New York

They played an hour and a half and that included encores. It was extremely disappointing considering their catalogue. The Bowery Ballroom is a dump. It a pathetic hall at best.. If this is what Calexico is doing, I am over their live shows.

Calexico always puts on a fun and lively show. This was my third time seeing them and they did not disappoint! Great mix of newer and older material.

Awesome musicians, fantastic performance & venue

    by NJean927 on 6/7/15The Sinclair - Cambridge

Everything about this concert was phenomenal - Calexico was amazing, the Sinclair is my new favorite venue in Boston, and the audience was cool. Fantastic night out. Oh, also Gaby Moreno opening (and joining Calexico for a few songs) was a perfect touch.

    Calexico NYE

by Jakekitty on 1/3/14The Fillmore - San Francisco

Calexico is one of my favorite bands. We see them every time they are local and have been following them for years. So disappointed on NYE. Not their usual play list as we just saw them in October at Slims and they were awesome. The bass was turned up too loud and drowned out everything else. Did not like that we paid to see Calexico and listened to a Mariachi band play 6 or 7 songs instead!

    Marvelous Calexico performance

by annphilip on 1/18/13El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

The acoustics were phenomenal and Calexico just kept on playing. I forget how many encores they played. An extensive and truly sensational show.

Power went out 4 or so songs into The Dodos set and it didn't come back on until The Fonda Theatre closed and locked their doors. Calexico did come out and play one song, apologized, then left the stage. Very disappointing.

    What a fun night!

by villnchilln on 10/23/12Aladdin Theater - Portland

The opening act was a good warm up for how great Calexico is! They have so much energy and the lyrics are deep. I love trumpets and accordions! They alternated between new songs and old ones from Feast of Wire and Garden Ruin. It was a good mix.

    good but loud

by LuckyPaul on 10/18/12Fine Line Music Cafe - Minneapolis

The volume was about 30 decibels above acceptable. Even if one can stand the volume, the sound is distorted by the volume. The optimum decibel level level for comprehension is 6b DB. Anything over that reduces comprehension. Anything over 110 DB is threshold of pain. The level was over 110DB, probably close to 120. The last time Calexico was at the Fine Line, it was not this loud. I suspect that the sound volume is controlled by the venue. Even if I were to have used earplugs, it makes no sense to me. I would only recommend this to a friend if they were to bring earplugs. An otherwise fine concert was spoiled by the ridiculous volume.

    Calexico was so much fun

by Afrothunder on 10/15/12Webster Hall - New York

Loved hearing old and new songs. They ended on a high note, with their classic, Guero Canelo. Such awesome energy and band dynamic on stage.
