About

As they approach their twentieth anniversary, CAKE’s adherence to their original guiding principles has only grown stronger. Formed during the nineties as a somewhat antagonistic answer to grunge, CAKE’s democratic processes, defiant self-reliance, and lucid yet ever-inventive music has made them a nation-state unto themselves, with no obvious peers, belonging to no school.  In addition to writing, arranging, producing, and performing their own music, they have taught themselves to engineer their recording projects in their own solar-powered studio, which actually generates more power than is needed to run it, causing the building’s electrical meter to run in reverse. CAKE’s most recent album, Showroom of Compassion, was released on their own Upbeat Records label and debuted on the US Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at #1 during 2011 -- making the album as pure an extension of the DIY aesthetic as ever attempted by an established act.

    great after rain show

by Dave from Eau Claire on 5/14/24McGrath Amphitheatre - Cedar Rapids

Cake started out their May 2024 tour on a high note.! Slight delay due to unexpected rain but once the show started it was well worth the wait. After a couple songs the band was tight and continued to put on a great show. Good almost sold out crowd. Only negatives were the restroom situation (long lines) and also the same for the beverage lines.

    Venue needs help

by Drreagan on 5/14/24McGrath Amphitheatre - Cedar Rapids

Huge bathroom lines, huge beverage lines, lack of crowd control, made this venue a place I would not return to.

    dissapointing

by drew on 5/14/24McGrath Amphitheatre - Cedar Rapids

like finding out Santa isn't real. Never had a chance to see Cake live before, it wasn't close to their recorded sound. Not sure what the reason was, but it was a let down.

    Event was great

by Carlos on 5/13/24McGrath Amphitheatre - Cedar Rapids

The band performance was excellent. About the venue I will suggest, add a few more tables in the food court and the bathroom facilities should be bigger. The place is beautiful.

    Mediocre

by Anonymous S on 5/13/24McGrath Amphitheatre - Cedar Rapids

I love this band and I love their music. Have been wanting to see them for years so I was incredibly excited when the opportunity arose. However, this show was a bit disappointing. The set list was lackluster, not enough variety, the crowd definitely reacted to the songs they wanted to hear and most were not well received. There were apparently technical issues throughout the day during rehearsals which was shared with the audience a couple of times by the band. This didn't send a great message, especially when they mentioned they were unsure if it was them or our crew's fault. The band was fairly fun, the crowd was less fun, there was an awkward moment where the band really asked about the name of the town and why we named our town after a type tree that wasn't around. Sadly one quick google search pre show would have cleared that up - we experienced an unbelievable land hurricane (Derecho) a few years ago that resulted in the loss of approximately 670,000 trees or two-thirds of our tree canopy. Know your audience. Perhaps an off night? I would likely think twice before seeing them again. The venue was not the best either. The food was limited to chicken sandwiches or hamburgers with no vegetarian or other options. The non-alcoholic beverages were bottled and the only diet option had run out by 7:30 for the diabetics in the group this was disappointing. If a venue doesn't allow water bottles or food then they need to be sure they have enough of all to last the event. The food tent had grills going that were so smoky they were choking out everyone trying to enter. The chairs provided for certain ticket levels were comfortable, I think a bit more grading to create better viewing would be helpful. This was our first event at this location and sadly it may be our last.

    Skip the Cake

by Steve on 5/13/24McGrath Amphitheatre - Cedar Rapids

Angry lead singer. Started the concert by complaining about cedar rapids. The most negative show I've ever seen. And the whole thing was just phoned in.

Great band, great music but underwhelmed this time

by BnCA on 5/13/24McGrath Amphitheatre - Cedar Rapids

The music was not near loud enough this time. The band seemed under enthused this time. I saw them in 2006 and 2003. Both times it was so fun and engaging. I was upset that I did not get to really enjoy the band in person. Seems like they did not have all the equipment to make the sounds in the songs and there was a lack of volume. I still LOVE almost all of their songs and albums

Great Band, Grate Facility, Great Time

by Richie Rich on 11/8/23The Rooftop at Pier 17 - New York

Facility was fantastic. Band rocked. Felt like there was a lot of taking going on as opposed to performing - but they are rock stars so they can do whatever they want - as long as they put on a good show and Cake came through.

    Great Cake!

by LTC on 10/12/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

It was a great concert full of great hits and humor. Definitely a don’t miss the next time they come to town. The smaller venue was great because all the seats were great and the band actually looked like they were humans and not miniatures! The sound was great and the venue is beautiful.

    Not so much fun.

by The sound for the lead singer was HORRIBLE. Could not make out a word he was singing or saying. on 9/21/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

I bought passes to the Hilltop Lounge and was disappointed to find they had done away with the private bathroom. That was a big reason we have purchased passes in the past. I really wish they would build a deck about two feet high on top of the concrete pad at the Hilltop Lounge. That way, lounge-goers could easily see over the heads of lawn patrons who wish to stand. That change would guarantee me coming back to the lounge. As it is, we probably won't spend money on the lounge next year.

    Cake was amazing

by Lisa on 9/19/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

Premier parking is where it's at! We are always glad we purchased it, no matter the venue! Cake was an amazing show. They put on the best show I've seen in years! The audience involvement is always an amazing touch. The tree they gave to someone was funny too! Ticketmaster is always easy to use and has all the info you need about the venue, the artist and functions around the event.

    Great concert

by Gina B on 9/18/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

I had never seen Cake before so I was super excited. It was nice because it was An Evening with Cake. So there was no opening act. They played the whole time with a brief intermission in the middle. They didn't allow pictures or videos during the show, which ended up being really nice because then everyone was just in the moment enjoying the music. Had a great time!!

I only came for the Cake

by Anna on 9/18/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

This was my first time seeing Cake live. They put on an amazing show from start to finish, and I loved that we got to sit next to seasoned Cake fans who helped make it a fun experience, too. It was my first time back at White River since they majorly renovated, and the weather was absolutely perfect. Can't wait for Cake to come back to Indy!

Slice of Cake- bit of heaven!

by Springchick on 9/17/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

Loved seeing Cake at TCU this past week! They played as if it were 1993 and we were all still young! They conversed with the crowd and even gave away a tree to one lucky fan in the audience. Their energy, pure sound and crowd pleasing interaction made this night so fun! Kuddos to TCU , Live nation and Ticketmaster for helping make this night perfect. Also shout out to WTTS for promoting this one so early on the air!

    An Evening With CAKE

by B-Nic on 9/17/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

CAKE did not disappoint! First time seeing them live and had been on our list for a long time. Appreciated them not having an opening band and just playing most of their songs during two sets with an intermission, that was somewhat unique in itself. Band sounded amazing. We took our 11 year old, which we’ve now taken to a few concerts, and she loved the show, maybe one of her favorites concerts. We recommend and would definitely go again.
