About

It says all you need to know about Buddy Guy that the music genre that he has come to embody, the Chicago Blues, could never hope to contain him. In the more than 55 years since the Louisiana moved to Chicago and embarked on one of the most influential careers a guitarist could ever hope for (just ask Eric Clapton), Guy is still pushing the envelope of his artistry. But what is remarkable about this Rock N' Roll Hall of Famer is that he isn't sacrificing an iota of his relevancy while doing so. Guy proves it not just in concerts that are as high energy now as they were when he was heralding a rock guitar revolution in the 1960's, but also on the charts. His 2010 musical autobiography-of-sorts Living Proof was the blues legend's highest carting record to date, while his 2013 double disk follow up Rhythm and Blues was #1 on the Blues chart and showed 77-year-old to be every bit the firecracker as guest stars Kid Rock and Arrowsmith. If his last few decades have proven anything, it's that a ticket to a Buddy Guy concert isn't simply a tour through blues history, but an opportunity to see a genre's foremost practitioner still at the top of his game, with as much to say as ever has.

With Age Comes Wisdom - AND Huge Talent

by Jim on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

Very Simple: I love Buddy Guy. I love Bobby Rush. I always love it when I see them, together OR separately…

    Bass guitar waaaay too loud

by Blu on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

Loved the show overall, however the bass guitar was so loud it overshadowed almost every instrument including the drums. Thank goodness I had earplugs or I’m not sure I could’ve stayed for the entire show.

    Buddy Guy— Fantastic show

by John on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

The Lyric Theatre is a great small theatre for a music event. Every seat is a good seat. Buddy Guy and Bobby Rush put on a fantastic show. One of the best events I’ve been to.

    Great Show!!!!

by Carol on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

With Bobby Rush opening and Tom Hambridge on the drums, the Buddy Guy show was like experiencing three headliners! Loved the show!!!

    Buddy’s last stand

by Burnzie on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

It was sad watching what was one of the greatest bluesmen ever , I’ve watched him electrify and basically blow away any guitar player in the past but on this night he was absent. Rambling, repetitive, barely finishing a song and lacking his signature guitar mastery

    Loved Seeing Two Blues Legends

    by RM2Static on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

This was a fun evening of Blues music. I loved seeing both Bobby Rush and Buddy Guy together on stage. I was shocked to see Bobby Rush come out as the opener! I never had the chance to see him before and he was incredible! It is hard to believe he is 91 years old! Buddy Guy was excellent. My only complaint was the audio within the Lyric wasn't that great and at times Buddy sounded muffled.

Eddie Gale was amazing and so was Buddy Guy! So happy we were able to see both! The seating was extremely too close to each other so very uncomfortable!

    Classically Electrifying!!!

by Tom on 9/20/23Macon City Auditorium - Macon

This was an awesome experience. If you enjoy old blues with great vocals and guitar work, this is a must see concert. Eric Gales, the opening act, was also phenomenal. A fine mixture of blues, rock and jazz. All in all, a beautiful experience!!!

    Pretty good.

by speedqueen on 9/20/23Macon City Auditorium - Macon

Buddy Guy was great to get to see, but the real show was his headliner Eric Gales. WOW! What an incredible show he put on- making it hard for anyone to come behind that.

    Baked In Blues

by Reverend Eddie on 9/19/23Macon City Auditorium - Macon

Buddy has still got it after all these years. He's better at 87 than many artists half his age. He continues to interact with the audience like he's in a small blues club.

Audio Sabotage To Open The Show?

by Show watcher on 9/19/23Macon City Auditorium - Macon

First off, Buddy was amazing. What a legend, and his sound mix was terrific. But what on earth happened to the mix for Eric Gales? It sounded like the guy running the desk maxed out bass and removed nids and highs for every but Gales' guitars which was pegged all the way at Max treble and about 3x louder than it should have been. Two drummers and a serious issue with the bass subsonics made for a muddy booming low end with no definition, covered by screeching lead guitar. All the people around me were seriously concerned that Buddy's mix would be as bad, but his was great. So the question for the sound guy from Saturday night, is this. Did Eric tell you to push that mix, or did you think it sounded good? Because either way, it was terrible.

    Bad Sound Engineering

by Just Me on 9/19/23Cadence Bank Arena - Tupelo

The opening act was way way way to loud for that small venue and their bass was way off balance. The vibrations! Ugh. Plenty of people with their hands over their ears and lots left after the first few songs. We did too. Never even got to hear Buddy Guy and that was such a bummer. Is this what live music is now?
