About Bristol Motor Speedway
You can tell a lot about the character of Bristol Motor Speedway from the nicknames assigned to the venue by racing fans. There are four in wide circulation: "The Last Great Colosseum" and "The Bullring" for the track's shape; "The World's Fastest Half-Mile" for its speed (cars complete laps in about 15 seconds); and "Thunder Valley" for its noise. The track is steeply banked and ringed with stadium-style seating. With a capacity of 162,000, it is the third-largest sports venue in the United States and the seventh-largest in the world.
Bristol Motor Speedway History
Bristol Motor Speedway, located in the northeast corner of Tennessee, opened in 1961. It was built by Carl Moore, Larry Carrier, and R.G. Pope on the site of a former dairy farm. They drew their inspiration from a trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway, but the $600,000 Bristol track was a more intimate (and noisier) venue, and in 1969 the track was reconfigured with its signature steep banks. In 1992, BMS replaced its asphalt surface with a concrete surface that is now its other hallmark. It is something of a celebrity, having served as the basis for the fictional Motor Speedway of the South in the Disney/Pixar film Cars.
The speedway is home to races in the NASCAR Cup Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series East, and the NHRA Mello Yellow Drag Racing Series. In the Cup Series, racing great Richard Petty holds the track record for most Top 10 finishes (with 37) and most starts (with 60). Darrell Waltrip leads with 12 all-time wins. The all-time winningest car owner at BMS is the legendary Junior Johnson, with 21 victories. Over the course of a week in 2010, Kyle Busch made history by winning three NASCAR national series races in a single race meeting: the Truck Series race on a Wednesday, then the Nationwide Series race, and the Spring Cup Series race.

Perfect Location Perfect Race Pefect Melon Man Could not have been better Its Bristol Baby
The overall experience was a great time and we are definitely looking forward to the next race. I upgraded our tickets for the Melon Man experience and wasn’t allowed in on the first day since I had a cooler. I didn’t take my cooler on Sunday specifically because of this, and when we were allowed in, we were extremely disappointed because it was just a patio area with around 8 seats total. I paid $120 to upgrade my tickets, which were already nearly $200, to stand on a patio with no outside drinks. Every other aspect of the event was great but I do not recommend upgrading to the Busch banks and brews if you’re going to the races in Bristol.
It’s Bristol Baby. That exciting phrase did nothings to stop the horrible tire wear that occurred during the Food City 500. The race went from action in the first 20 laps, and then turned into a crawl as teams struggled to get a handle on tire wear. The race was slowed down, the upper groove never played a part and top stars in the sport never got to show the fans there talents at Bristol all do to tire wear. NASCAR calls the race a success, but I believe there saying that because they got all 500 laps in. It was not an exciting experience for fans. I remember when there was a waiting list for Bristol tickets. Sadly not anymore
Amazing race! Great facilities! I can’t wait to go again!
Great venue, awesome people,me and a few friends had an amazing time 👍
Spotty cell service at event. Took 15+ minutes to have enough signal to obtain and present bar code for entry; later wanted to exit and return but decided not to as same problem. Prefer old reliable paper tickets!
The facility was clean, the staff were helpful, the racing was great. An all around good time!
My bro and I were getting pelted with tire rubber the entire race. That’s how close to the action we were. Best experience ever. Highly recommend this to any fan of racing.
I stayed in Bristol at the Hampton Inn by Hilton. Even though there were no waffles available all weekend, it was a nice hotel. Bristol's 620 and Stateline restaurants were great places to eat and while at Stateline, watch my Bulldogs beat my wife's Gamecocks! Go Dawgs! Bristol track is one of a kind. I'm glad I checked it off of my bucket list, and I will be back!!!
Enjoyed race. Not enough direction sign to show setting areas. Not enough people with information about getting to seat area. Glenda
First time my boy got to see a race in person it was awesome
First time at Bristol. Has been on my bucket list for years. Finally made it. Was close enough from my cabin rental in Franklin, NC to make the 2 1/2 hour drive to Bristol. Loved being able to see the whole track from my seat.
First race I have ever attended at BMS. It was electric! I will definitely be back for more Nascar action
It’s Bristol baby if you never been to a Bristol night race from nascar it’s a must see lots to do live bands people are incredible again it’s Bristol baby
Glad to see fans coming back to racetracks more important it's playoffs. I really enjoyed the night race, my hats off to them.
Excellent track. Would like to see more vending within the track. Food choices were very limited.
Parked in parking lot 6. Had two people which needed mobility assistance. Even with handicapped ♿️ difficult getting around. No shuttle to shuttle bus from parking lot. Shuttle bus to parking lot quit running 1 hr before end of race until hour after race meaning must leave be4 race over to utilize needed shuttle. Loved the race but the experience was traumatic. Not handicapped friendly. Will not return.
We loved the race and the venue but there were very few food options. Did not really want "generic concession food". The parking was terrible, empty lots but you couldn't park in them unless you had a permit.
Had a great time!! It was very exciting. But the wifi was nonexistent. For US Cellular AND TMobile phones. Therefore the app I had downloaded was useless. Thats probably why there weren't more phones used for the light it up stuff-which was really cool btw. LOVED the patriotism before the race, esp the rapelling troops and flyover!!!!🇺🇸❤🇺🇸
