About

Brett Dennen is a modern day troubadour with one foot tapping to the tradition of Woody Guthrie and the other foot in step with his social and political convictions. In 2013 he released his fifth studio album Smoke and Mirrors, which was recorded in Nashville and produced the widely acclaimed hit "Wild Child." His voice carries a unique quality that draws listeners in by being simultaneously at home in the music yet tinged with a hint of urgency. A ticket to a Brett Dennen concert will put you face to face with a songwriter who is determined to deliver an energetic, positive and uplifting performance. His ability to do just that has landed him opening slots for John Mayer, Sheryl Crow and David Matthews. His recent hit song has joined the ranks of many of his other fan favorites that inspire crowds to sing along with his performance.

Dennen began improvising songs around the campfire as a teen which eventually led to gigging, recording and the release of his self-titled first album in 2004. His second album, So Much More followed in 2006 and his third album, Hope for the Hopeless debuted at No. 41 on the Billboard Top 200 in 2008. His 2011 album, Loverboy debuted at No. 55 and featured the radio-hit single "Comeback Kid (That's My Dog)."  In addition to radio play, Dennen's songs have graced the television airwaves on episodes of Parenthood, Grey's Anatomy and American Idol. He has an impressive 2014 tour schedule with dates booked in the U.S., Ireland, Scotland, the UK and Holland. This down-to-earth guy is now bringing his message to many parts of the globe, and maybe someday to the whole world.

We were not told that it was 21+ so we had a bit of trouble getting in, but they finally allowed us to go in. The Tralf venue is pretty dark but in a good way, and it was a nice surprise to have seating available. The opener, Andrew Belle, was pretty good, but less energetic. Once Brett and his crew came on, more people came to dance in front of the stage. Music was as great as expected, and later Brett came on to do some solo acoustic stuff.

Brett Dennen solo was intimate and soulfull

    by Gdogg78 on 2/14/15Imperial - Vancouver

A cool little venue with some lounging chairs and benches surrounding a large dance floor with bar upper level. Opening act was Willy Tea and a few songs were really good, brought the vibe down a bit with his darker stuff but lightened it up at the end. Brett played solo acoustic for the 1.5 hours and went by too fast. Would have liked to see him longer. Look forward to seeing Brett again!

The acoustic mix could have been improved. Vocals were drowned out by instruments

    Brett Dennen - I'm hooked!

by NCSunshineButterfly on 3/29/14Carolina Theatre - Durham

Absolutely loved this performance. This was my first time seeing Brett Dennen in concert. I didn't know any of his songs but a friend of mine urged me to go. I am SO glad I was able to see such an amazing show. Brett has moved to my top 10 list of live performances.

    Brett. Dennen.

by KLynneRose on 3/16/14State Theatre - Portland

Enough said! This concert was spectacular. Foy Vance started the show - an incredible talent! Brett Dennen came out, sung and danced his heart out, then came back and sang at least 4 more songs for his encore! Well, well, well worth it!

    Dennen Not A Crowd Pleaser

by DennenLacking on 3/14/14Headliners Music Hall - Louisville

Foy Vance opened and "Be the Song" was and is awesome. Brett sounded great and performed ok, but fell short in showing appreciation for his supporters. He literally sang every song without saying a word to the patrons and turned his back in between each song. Everyone has moments, but it would have taken only a couple seconds of BS thankfulness to make paying fans feel valued.

    Brett Dennen at Louisville Headliners

by DaveinLouisville on 3/12/14Headliners Music Hall - Louisville

Great show. Very talented band. Brett Dennen is One of the best songwriters today no exception As a 52 year old musician I enjoyed the live music More than his records, he strives to improvise his vocals And certainly plays guitar like a Paul Simon Can't wait it see him again

    SO GOOD!

by DHawks on 3/12/14Headliners Music Hall - Louisville

Aside from the crowd being shitty this was one of the best shows I've been to. Brett puts on a hell of a show and made the night so much fun! The opener, Foy Vance was also great but most of the crowd didn't give him the time of day, such a shame.

    Blessed is Brett Dennen

by Refoman on 3/3/14Royale Boston - Boston

Having seen Brett perform as a solo act, I was particularly impressed with how well he used his band. Never did the band's power overshadow the lyrical content. Never did the music seem disconnected from the lyrical direction of each song. Brett is a brilliant communicator. He becomes the lyrics of each song and he drew me in from the first syllable of the night and never once faltered. His focus was laser-like in its intensity, but natural and unforced. What can I say about his songs? They're brilliant and instant classics. His new material blew me away and his old material was played with the commitment of an artist that writes relevant material, and is just as alive today as it was when it was first written. Brett Dennen is becoming the voice of the underdog, the Dylan of the New Age, and I can't wait to see him when he comes back again!

    So boring...

    by Eileen2015 on 3/3/14Royale Boston - Boston

I left after an hour. The band sounded pretty decent but Dennen has no rapport with audience and every song sounded the same. I only went to see Foy Vance, the opener, who I have seen twice before and he is amazing! We got screwed because the drive from Providence to Boston took almost three hours and we completely missed Foy. I'll never try to get up there on a Friday again.
