BOY GEORGE IN CONCERT:

In an era where synthesizers and drum machines dominated the pop charts, Boy George defied the mainstream and created a counterculture with his distinct, soulful vocals and androgynous style. As the frontman of new wave band Culture Club, he entertained audiences around the world with rock and reggae-infused tracks, becoming one of pop's most enduring icons with his bold makeup and eccentric stagewear. It’s been eighteen years since his last solo release, and fans will be delighted to know that George will return to the spotlight in 2014 for the This Is What I Do Tour, complete with a nine-piece band, including a brass section, and plenty of glamour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Boy George rose to fame as the intriguing lead singer of Culture Club, which found commercial success with the release of their 1982 debut album Kissing To Be Clever. The record featured the international No. 1 hit “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?," launching the band to global stardom virtually overnight. Culture Club continued their chart run with “Karma Chameleon," the second single off their sophomore album Colour By Numbers, earning them a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1984. Boy George started his solo career in the late ‘80s with the release of Sold, which produced several hit singles and compelled George to form his own record label, More Protein, in 1989. Over the course of his decade-spanning career, the mercurial George has reinvented himself numerous times, finding success as a DJ, fashion designer, and Tony Award-winning producer for the musical "Taboo." Hot on the heels of the 2013 release of his ninth studio album, he'll grace fans once again with his legendary showmanship on the 2014 This Is What I Do Tour.

    He's got it!

by Edsel01us on 5/2/14The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

Boy George was in a fun and energetic sprirt. He sang a lot of songs from his new album(which is very good). However, the crowd was most energized towards the end of his set as thats when he did his oldies. But that should not be a surprise for anyone as the audience comprised of 30 plus year old men and women who admired BG in his hay days. Boy George may have said the '80's have gone', But thats precisely why the majority if the crowd was there, to re-live their days of youth. And I feel that artists should respect that about their audience.

by oldschoolconcertguy on 5/2/14The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

what a great performance. Excellent vocals and music set. Musicians were great also. Only bummer is he didn't perform a couple top Culture Club songs from their hey day, but he did perform several. You should go and see, definitely worth the time and money. Crowd was great too, no drunk egotistical idiots. We expection ok….. but got great.

The show was fantastic! Loved the new music and hearing some of the old favorites! If possible, his voice is even better! Definitely worth seeing!

    Boy George - Impressive

by OCVegan on 5/2/14The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

BG's performance, set list that included a few Culture Club songs, and interaction with audience members was enjoyable. The sound was more bass vibrations throughout the night. Not good considering I was right behind the sound board in the balcony.

Boy George is back & is great form!

by gaypalmsprings on 5/2/14The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

I was not sure what to expect of Boy George given his history, even though I bought his most recent album and loved it. Boy, was I surprised! He has matured into a fabulously wonderful performer with a strong voice. His set lasted almost 2 hours, with no opening act. He played nearly all of his new album plus a few Culture Club songs and some great covers of other artists. I have fallen in love with Boy George all over again. In fact, I loved the performance so much, I saw him the next night at the Mayan Theatre next door to the Belasco. He was also terrific fun the second night, and changed up a couple songs. I hope Boy George stays drug free and returns to America again. It's been too many years since his last tour in the USA. When he does return, I'm going to see him again.

    Boy George was Awesome!

by LGHM on 5/2/14The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

Boy George voice was so beautiful! Just wish I could of seen more of him! The way the theater is built u can't see the stage much! Upstairs wasn't any better! Why would such a popular singer choose to play 2dumpy old nightclubs ? Would of been better if he played the Wiltern! Was also 100 degrees in there too !! Other than that he was wonderful even the backup singer and horn section dudes were great!!Wish he woulda played longer he could of thrown in a few more CC songs in there!

Too many new stuff at first

by Eveready18 on 5/1/14House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Love the venue for the first time but hour delay was unappreciated. Too much new stuff at first but second hour after midnite finally brought the crowd to its feet. Boy George is kinda of pill and still don't know what "Rico" signified. Saw him with Culture Club in '97 at Rosemont Theater and much more pleasant. May not go back again.

    Boy George gave his all

by 123Mojito on 5/1/14The Fillmore - San Francisco

His voice is still amazing & he's just a joy to listen too. Sang everything from his new cd which I had not heard, but still loved. Did quite a few Culture Club songs that rocked. He was onstage for almost 2 hours, and I still didn't want it to end. I'd see him again in a heartbeat - so glad I went.

    Boy George is back!

by MsDork on 5/1/14The Fillmore - San Francisco

This was first time I've ever seen Boy George. I wasn't lucky enough to see Culture Club back in the day. He was definitely worth the wait. His singing voice was amazing and his band is made up of top-notch musicians. There aren't many occasions where I can say I enjoyed the new material even more than the hits, but that's exactly how I felt at the Fillmore on Monday evening. The Fillmore remains my favorite venue in San Francisco. Their staff is the best. I wish they weren't affiliated with Ticketmaster/Live Nation because their impersonal customer service always leaves me with the desire to never purchase tickets through them again; however, I will endure the pain and aggravation to see Boy George. It was definitely one of the best shows I've been to this year.

    Boy George's Return to Chicago

by Anonymous on 4/29/14House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

It has been 14 years since Boy George has performed in Chicago outside of his DJ sets. I knew going into the show that he was going to perform most of his new album, which I do not really care for. He struggled vocally with "King of Everything". You could hear that his brilliant voice has been damaged. Hopefully, with vocal lessons he can regain his soulful voice.

It was amazing to see Boy George live & up so close!!! I'm still giddy about it, days after. Only bad things I can say is that he didn't do many of his old hits. He wasn't happy with the Chicago peeps who were being rude & drunk. I had to agree w/ him on that. Other than that it was amazing & so much fun. House of blues needs to keep a better eye on the crowd!!!!

    Boy George was great!

    by 1GlitterBB on 4/25/14Royale Boston - Boston

It was so awesome to see Boy George! He put on a great show! He is definitely a very talented singer and entertainer and he kept the audience totally engaged from the minute he took the stage. It was a fantastic night! He went back to his reggae (not ska!) influences for many songs and sang music from his current CD along with some Culture Club (which the audience was dying to hear!) and he threw in some Dylan and Bread! (Yes, Bread, remember them?) It was a great show!

    Self indulgent

by FancurrentlyaFan on 4/25/14Irving Plaza - New York

George was in great voice, but took over an hour until he played a hit. He mentioned that audiences hadn't been paying attention in earlier shows. I like his new music, and understand wanting to do fresh material, but thought it was a bit too much new stuff without throwing his audience a bone.
