About

Blue Water Highway Band in Concert

The term Americana gets thrown around a lot in music these days, but if you really want to define it for a newcomer to the style, you could simply take them to a Blue Water Highway show and be done with it.

The Austin, Texas-based band brings together folk, country, and rock, tosses in a touch of gospel and a dash of New Orleans, and then lays huge, hook-heavy tunes atop it all with sunny, pop-informed vocal harmonies and a seemingly bottomless supply of foot-stomping, good-time grooves.

Between frontman Zack Kibodeaux's sweetly soaring vocals and Greg Essington's perfect balance of deep country twang and hot rock 'n' roll licks, Blue Water Highway serves up an inspirational, feel-good kind of sound that's even more infectious in person than it is on their recordings. Even when they tuck into a reflective, bittersweet ballad, there's a warm glow you know you'll keep with you long after the concert is over.

Blue Water Highway Band Background

Blue Water Highway Band was formed by singer/guitarist Zack Kibodeaux and guitar player Greg Essington, whose history goes all the way back to being best friends in high school. In Lake Jackson, Texas, they forged an open-hearted Americana sound that embraced a broad spectrum of rootsy styles.

In 2013, the band kicked off its recording career by releasing a self-titled EP, followed by the full-length album 'Things We Carry' two years later. In a manner befitting the group's organic, grassroots aesthetic, both of those records were entirely independent endeavors.

When it came time to take things to the next level with their second album, 2018's 'Heartbreak City,' Blue Water Highway partnered with renowned Americana distributor Thirty Tigers to expand their audience. Along with Kibodeaux and Essington, Catherine Clark, Jared Wilson, and Kyle James Smith come together to forge a sound that's a little bit of a lot of things, just like the heartland they come from.
