BLUE RODEO IN CONCERT:

Canadian roots rock mainstay Blue Rodeo has been sending fans "Head Over Heels" with their country-tinged sound and lighters-in-the-air concerts for more than three decades. The group has won a dozen Juno Awards in their home country, and they've earned a global fanbase with their approachable sound and unforgettable live performances. They've been called one of Canada's best live bands, and it's easy to see why as co-vocalists Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor tag team anthemic favorites like "Lost Together" and "5 Days in May". Fans looking to catch up with with these veteran rockers won't want to miss them any time they perform favorites from their decade-spanning discography on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Blue Rodeo was formed in the early '80s by Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, two Toronto high school buddies who started playing music together after graduating. Following a stint in New York they returned to Canada and put together a band, and in 1985 Blue Rodeo played their first show at The Rivoli in Toronto. After two years of performing and honing their sound, the group released their 1987 debut album Outskirts to a Top 20 spot on the Canadian charts. A steady string of popular singles and albums followed in the late '80s and '90s, including country chart-toppers like "Try" and "Til I Am Myself Again". Their success continued in the '00s with no less than five Top 10 albums on the Canadian Albums Chart and a star on Canada's Walk of Fame. Over the course of 13 albums Blue Rodeo has won a whopping 12 Juno Awards, and they continue to impress with their time-honored sound and undeniable onstage chemistry every time they tour.

Blue Rodeo exceptional at the end

by OttawaGuy on 6/27/10Benaroya Hall - Nordstrom Recital Hall - Seattle

I think the band was a wee bit tired at first, but slowly and steadily warmed to the enthusiastic audience which most certainly had a large component of ex-patriates. We had not seen Blue Rodeo live since Massey Hall 20 years ago, so it was a treat to see them once again and be reminded of how much superb music they have created. I hope they return to Seattle soon, maybe Meany Hall at UW? Please say yes, Blue Rodeo!

    Blue Rodeo Was Amazing!

by CDoug on 6/27/10Benaroya Hall - Nordstrom Recital Hall - Seattle

From start to finish the concert was unforgettable. Blue Rodeo had the crowd on their feet more than once and the energy was palpable. The band was in top form, singing some of their greatest hits, along with some new tracks. They never hit a bad note and I had the best time!

    Blue Rodeo Simply Wonderful

by CdnInNY on 6/10/10Bowery Ballroom - New York

We just wanted to thank Blue Rodeo for playing New York on this tour. This concert was, bar none, the best we've ever been to. The play list was balanced between their "standards" and the new material but they maintained an emotional connection with the audience throughout. My wife and I both had tears in our eyes during "5 Days in May" not least because of Anne Lindsay's marvellous violin solo. The audience kept asking for "Lost Together" throughout the evening. It served as fore-shadowing since that ended up being the finale. It was a visual and aural culmination as every band member was onstage singing their hearts out.

    Blue Rodeo Barrie

by Clublinkster on 2/6/10Barrie Molson Centre - Barrie

Band seemed energized by the crowd. Barrie Molson Centre is a nice venue for events of this size. Good sound! The band was not too loud. With that, there was little distortion, except when Greg Keelor intended! The set list was heavy on the new album. But the band chose what I believe are the best songs from that double set. There was an emphasis on songs sung by Jim Cuddy - too much for my liking, as I would have liked some of Keelor's angrier ventures. Awesome piano and violin solos!

Blue Rodeo - still rockin' after all these years

by CJinTO on 2/3/10Massey Hall - Toronto

It started out slow; like a night at home with a few thousand good friends but by the half-way point the band and the crowd were rocking along to all the old favourites. Blue Rodeo are a great group of musicians who after all these years have mastered the art of telling a story and keeping your interest. I am usually the type to say to myself, "just play your greatest hits and forget the new stuff", but even the new songs seemed like classics and most of the people in the audience were just as happy to hear them play the new songs as the old. I have to say though... Toronto crowds take a long time to get warmed up and are too conservative by my standards.

A fine Canadian band of mature vintage deliveres

by StarStar on 1/6/10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

It's my first time to see them Live but my memory of these guys go way back. I'm not a musical connoisseur buy any means, but I can see how they stand out in the music landscape with their uniquely blended sounds. I don't go to many concerts anymore, so for me, this could be the last great see this side of the border.

Blue Rodeo... Not so much this time

by Guthrie on 11/27/09The Centre In Vancouver for Performing Arts - Vancouver

While I really looked forward to this, I found the show to be rather self-indulgent. I felt like I was in a rehearsal studio with some fellow musicians, with amps and other gear strewn about, and players standing anywhere where they could plug in. It was disappointing. It looked rather unrehearsed and when the boys dove into guitar solos, it had the sound of trying to fit a pentatonic scale into a country song. Personally, I didn't like looking at someone's back while they went into a solo, and even the light show was off-beat and truthfully, blinding for most of the show. Overall... disappointed for the money. I think even they looked uncomfortable, not even holding the last note of a song before shanging guitars for the next. Malkin Bowl is where they need to be (at $40)

    Another great Blue Rodeo Show

by MaryfromMichigan on 11/23/09Martyrs - Chicago

I drive to Chicago from Michigan every time Blue Rodeo plays there. This show was fantastic! All of the new songs were wonderful. I like the new releases live best because we actually get to hear Greg and Jim sing.....the old songs instigate such a "sing along" riot that the guys are drowned out. Having seen BR in many venues, it's still a great treat to see them up close and very personal, and Martyr's sure delivers on that! Nice to see Luc again too. If you can see the band on this tour, don't miss out, the new songs are great!

    Blue Rodeo At Mercury Lounge

by marlysal on 11/15/09Mercury Lounge - New York

The venue is small which is wonderful so you have a nice, intimate experience with friends and the band. Also of great interest were the two warm up act: Eleanor Whitemore and I am sorry to say I did not get the name of the other wonderful young woman who did country rock, Rodeo was terrific with a few old favorites and lots of their new stuff. At one point, the lead the crowd with an acapella version of "say that your leaving....well it comes as no surprise..." etc. Loved the experience, the setting and ambiance.

Blue Rodeo - Great Canadian Talent

by BSGE on 9/16/09Western Fairgrounds - London

Blue Rodeo didn't disappoint. The band started right on time and played 1&1/2 hours of old favourites and some great new tunes destined to be hits. The encore was amazing with 3 of my favourites to leave the fair on a high note. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the entire performance. It makes you proud to be Canadian listening to the talent of Blue Rodeo. Thanks for the Awesome concert guys!
