BLUE MAGIC IN CONCERT:

R&B/soul legends Blue Magic have been holding it down for fans of smooth, soulful balladry for more than 40 years. The band's honey-toned vocals, airtight harmonies, and sentimental lyrics make for a nostalgic experience at their acclaimed shows, where audience members sway to classics like "Slideshow" and "Spell". With original members Ted Mills, Keith Beaton, and Wendell Sawyer helming the operation, Blue Magic continue to dazzle on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Blue Magic was formed in Philadelphia in 1972 from two separate groups both affiliated with the city's WMOT Records. They become one of the earliest groups to record with legendary R&B producer Norman Harris when they enlisted him for their debut single "Spell", which earned them their first appearance on the R&B charts. They scored their first No. 1 hit the following year with "Sideshow", an affecting ballad from their self-titled debut album. A string of R&B hits followed in the '70s, but as disco took over the airwaves the band experienced internal tensions that resulted in various lineup shifts. Now reunited with original lead singer Ted Mills, Blue Magic has ticket buyers eager to take a walk down emory lane on their next tour.

    70s

by WhozThaMan on 11/11/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

All the bands had replacement members, but all had at least one original member. That said, the concert was GREAT !! As each act followed the other, the music and showmanship got better and better.

All the groups was great, but

by RG4403 on 11/10/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

The show was great , all the groups sound great Ray, Goodman, and Brown set the bar high to start the show and every group that followed met the challenge. If you where not there you missed a great show . However, the Show Place Arena acoustics were terrible groups with outstanding vocals need better acoustics. This should have been a 6 stars rating, but the acoustics made it a 4 star rating from me.

70's Soul was a BAD Choice

by Boyblue1408 on 11/10/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

The singers that were still alive sound as if they weren't .and the younger singers that filled in weren't much better. I will just enjoy the old 70's songs by listening to them on the radio or from my records. I should have expected this coming from singers that had to be at least in there 60's if not much older.

    70"s Is Where It's At

by Rosy300zx on 11/10/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

Marvelous show! Great showmanship from each group. This was my first time seeing New Birth and man.....were they awesome. The lead singer took the show, not that everyone wasn't great but he rocked the house. Heatwave, Heatwave, Heatwave? Eugene was superb. Emotions took my heart away. Blue Magic (Vernon) can sing ballads to me anytime of the day and Ray, Goodman & Brown made me want to lose my mind. Oh! Let's not forget the awesome Unit Band who played behind everyone never missing a beat. I enjoyed so much, I'm going to the 70's show on the 29th. Rosy Rose from DC

    Sound Board Operator Needed Help

by DMFB on 11/10/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

The music was so loud for the first three groups--you couldn't enjoy it. I noticed that the Sound Board Operator got some assistance for the later acts and you could enjoy the last groups better

    Bucket List Concert

by BriGause on 11/10/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

I've been a fan of Blue Magic since I could crawl. (I'm 27). I've missed them every time they've been close to the DMV, so this time I purchased my ticket early. It was a great concert. I loved their line up. They performed a mixture of Blue Magic songs and a few covers of 90s songs. Of Course the crowd loved Sideshow and What's Come Over Me. I think the venue was rather large considering this is the first of two 70s concert this month. However, I was not disappointed with my seat or the performances. The Emotions, Heatwave, and New Birth were all really fun to watch. I would definitely attend again :-)

    Show well done!

by Anonymous on 11/10/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

It was wonderful to see the oldies but goodies again! The overall show was executed with very high energy. We had a great time. The only regret was the seating (too hard and to close to each other). However this had nothing to do with the performers. Great show!

    Outstanding Performance

Took my wife to the event and she had a ball. She did not expect nor did I the level of quality experienced. New Birth was the gem of the night.

    Blue Magic

by LDasilva on 4/22/14Shubert Theater - New Haven

This was one of the worst concerts that I attended. I wish I could get my money back. The view was terrible, the speakers and sound system was bad, and the event was poorly organized. I couldn't wait until it was over. I bought the tickets for my husband since he enjoys music from the 70's, but we were both disappointed. This band didn't even sing his favorite songs and the singing was not as good as we expected.

Glenn Jones and Lenny Williams were marvelous , they still have it , after all these years!. The comedian Freddie Ricks was amazing , had me in stitches. Blue Magic ,never missed a beat , and they are still phenomenal , decades later.
