About

Blood, Sweat & Tears on Tour

Though they haven't released a new studio album since 1980, Blood, Sweat & Tears have never left the road. And although their current lineup features none of the players who appeared on their string of hit singles from their late-'60s/early-'70s commercial peak, their original mission — to fuse the compositional complexity of jazz with the power and precision of rock ‘n' roll — has carried on under the guidance of founding drummer Bobby Colomby, who no longer performs with the group but still serves as their de facto spiritual advisor/casting director. Over the years, Colomby has enlisted a number of singers — including American Idol alumnus Bo Bice — to fill the big shoes vacated by BST's most famous vocalist, David Clayton-Thomas. Since 2019, that role has been occupied by Keith Paluso, a former contestant on The Voice. But no matter who's belting out the hits, a Blood, Sweat & Tears show is guaranteed to be a brasstastic experience.

Blood, Sweat & Tears in Concert

Al Kooper could've retired in 1965 already a legend at age 21, thanks to his iconic keyboard work on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." But the restless musician would go on to play a crucial role in expanding the parameters of popular music when he joined improvisational New York group The Blues Project, before founding the even more ambitious Blood, Sweat & Tears with guitarist Steve Katz in 1967. The group's debut album, Child Is Father to the Man, was a groundbreaking fusion of rock, jazz, psychedelia and orchestral music, though creative differences would drive Kooper out of the band shortly after its release, with Katz and drummer Bobby Colomby seeking to push the group into a more accessible direction. They'd find their golden ticket into the Top 40 in the form of Canadian singer David Clayton-Thomas, a charismatic, big-voiced showman who contributed the signature single "Spinning Wheel" to the band's 1969 Grammy Award–winning self-titled album and led the group at their historic Woodstock performance that summer. Over the next few years, Blood, Sweat & Tears stood at the forefront of a jazz-rock revolution that counted Chicago and Santana as compatriots, showcasing their bold, brassy sound on swaggering originals like "Lucretia Mac Evil" and inventive covers (like their soulful rendition of Carole King's "Hi-De-Ho"). Clayton-Thomas left the band in 1972 to pursue a solo career (only to return in 1975), and since the release of 1980's Nuclear Blues, Blood, Sweat & Tears have existed primarily as a live act, with an infinite array of revolving lineups — in fact, no fewer than 175 players have passed through their ranks over the years. But under Colomby's direction, Blood, Sweat & Tears have survived and thrived into the 21st century with their big-band bonhomie intact.

    NOT THEM !!!

by kk on 10/31/23Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino Bears Den - Niagara Falls

This "IS NOT"Blood Sweat & Tears !!! It is nothing short of a cover band. The horns were fantastic but the singer was almost embarrassing. A lot of the concert had nothing to do with SW&T but were "solos"by each band member. They bought the name from the original drummer. DO NOT BE HOODWINKED !!!

    Fantastic music

by Donnah on 10/31/23Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino Bears Den - Niagara Falls

One of the best bands I’ve heard there. The sound was amazing. The musicians and singer were so good. All in sync with each other. Did all the hit song’s audience want to hear. They are all so talented. Thanks for bringing them to Seneca. Made for a great evening.

    Surpassed expectations.

    by jazzjam on 8/1/23

I have been a fan of BS&T since they started back in the 1960's. This version of BS&T was every bit as talented as the originals that I saw live in Oakland Coliseum back in the day. They covered music from every album I have and did it superbly.

    What a musical treat!

    by Jim on 7/18/23

Didn’t know BS&T was touring again. Didn’t see this concert on their website. We check Ludlow Garage periodically and was glad to find this appearance. LG is not fancy but it is intimate with great acoustics. The band sounded great and ALL the musicians were top notch. BS&T is still rockin’ after all these years!

    BST Experience

    by DHinch on 7/11/23

The Ho Chunk Casino provided a nice venue for this concert. We had 4th row center seating. Chairs were very comfortable. The performance was excellent. The lead vocal was able to recreate John Clayton Thomas perfectly. The horn section was sensational. All the performers were very good. I was very impressed with them. Only complaint: stage lighting at times was directly in your eyes.

It was everything I expected it to be.

    by Chris on 7/11/23

We went there more for their old, familiar rock songs that were popular when I was young in the '60s and '70s. We knew there would be some songs that would be unfamiliar to us. Mostly Jazz and Blues songs. Bottom line is that we heard what we came to hear. Fair price. Nice venue. Some crazy old people. Top level musicians. What more can you ask?

    Blood Sweat and Tears

    by Pamlet on 7/10/23

The security prior to the event was slow and difficult for older members of the audience. The event didn't start on time due security. The band started out playing songs that I had not heard before but once they started playing those songs, the audience got into the event. The lead singer was very talented.

    Surprise!

    by Julie on 5/18/22Potawatomi Hotel & Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Event Center - Milwaukee

Our first surprise was to learn upon the start of the show that there are no original band members as there is no indication of that when purchasing tickets. Actually you are seeing a cover band and we felt a bit misled. Our second surprise is that they were good. We enjoyed the show but left us with a bad feeling. Let people know up front as being misled is not a good feeling. For that reason, 4 stars.

    Great Music

    by B. W. on 5/16/22Potawatomi Hotel & Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Event Center - Milwaukee

The concert was great. It was a little hard to hear the singer though because the instruments were too loud. I love seeing concerts in a small theater, it's much better than a huge crowd.

    Wow…

    by Lydo on 5/16/22Potawatomi Hotel & Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Event Center - Milwaukee

I saw the original Blood, Sweat and Tears at the Park West in Chicago many years ago and they were great then…but this new group of musicians gave a performance that surpassed anything I’ve heard…the best for sure!

    Okay

    by Juli on 5/16/22Potawatomi Hotel & Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Event Center - Milwaukee

I should've looked further but this was a tribute band which was not presented as such! the only singer/vocal had a great voice but his stage presence lacked lust... passion that I've seen previously from the original band. They played all the great songs and had instrument solos which were incredible. My opinion, the instrumental portion and vocals of blood sweat and tears has not been achieved as I have seen in a no. of other tribute bands. If you go and can sit and close your eyes and listen to the music... enjoy

Very good concert. Only lasted an hour and fifteen minutes.

Too short of a concert for the money. Was not happy with the short concert.

    Reminds me of the 70s

by Sweetie on 3/23/22The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

The band was amazing - lead singer over the top. I would recommend they play one or two of the old songs we grew up with earlier in the show instead of waiting to the end. Other than that, great performance, wonderful night.

    Great Vocals

by RO K S on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - Lincoln

A twist on the original band. Strange there was no name on the drum. They played many of the original tunes And had a lot of instrumentals. Wish there were more sing a-longs. The lead singer told a story of how he joined the band. He had a great voice. Brass section was good. Just not the same.

I thought the show was awesome.

by Bs&t on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - Lincoln

With no original players, you would never know it. The sound rang true to the way back when… he hand picked the perfect group.

    Excellent instrumentalists, pretty good vocalist

by SCS on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - Lincoln

Tight band, particularly bass and brass. Drummer looks a bit bored at times, but plays well; when soloing, lead guitarist's facial expression looks like he got something stuck in his zipper -- but he plays well. Singer was personally engaging with a good back-story, but not quite up to some of the songs.

    BST was AWESOME!

by Kathy on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - Lincoln

I have seen so many bands where the original musicians (and lead singer) were long gone and more often than not it wasn't a great experience. These guys nailed it, they were all so talented and the lead singer had a great voice and was a HOTTIE! Couldn't beat the price for the tickets either and I was in the front row! :)

most disappointing revival concert group ever

by Buster B on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - Lincoln

They played about an hour of unfamiliar music with a lot of solos (meaning they were filling time). The crowd was dead until some old favorites were played in the 2nd half. The music was good but the singer nothing like the OG's. Would never waste money on them again...
