Bloc Party sounded great. Was very energetic. And overall I was pleased when I left the show. BUT, very disappointed that they didn't play some of their more popular songs. Did not play One More Chance, One Month Off, and did not play Signs.
The Fillmore is a great venue...definitely one of the best I've ever been to. Bloc Party was very good. While their set was great, it could have been longer...it was very short. MS MR was better live than recorded, though all their songs are pretty much exactly the same just at different speeds.
Bloc Party is my favorite band of all time and the Fillmore is quickly becoming my favorite venue in Philadelphia. It's spacious while still feeling intimate and great for all kinds of shows. From an acoustics perspective, it's much more enjoyable than the Electric Factory where everything feels too loud, and the bar area up front allows you to talk to people without screaming over the band while still being able to hear the music. Bloc Party was fantastic as they always are. I'm not a huge fan of their new album, however their song choices off the album were limited to the top 4 or 5 best. The rest of the music was the classics that I wanted to hear off of Silent Alarm and Weekend in the City. Personally I think Bloc Party has the type of fans that want to hear more than 16 songs at a concert, and I wish they would have one opening band and then do two sets of about 26-30 songs, but I can see that getting a bit exhausting for Kele to sing that much night in and night out.
Bloc party was amazing but the mics for all three bands were never turned up. It was hard hearing the singers all night long considering it was a smaller venue. Otherwise Overall great show and i hope Bloc Party comes back.
Disappointing. The venue was half full. The band had zero enthusiasm.
I've been a fan of Bloc Party since Silent Alarm in the mid 00's. I hadn't ever had a chance to see them live but this show was definitely worth the wait. The venue was a good size and I was able to get pretty close to the stage in the GA section. I watched the opener from farther back, and there are really a lot of good viewing spots in this venue, even for a petite concert goer like myself. Bloc Party brought a ton of energy and played a wide range of songs from all their albums. I expected this to be a tour promoting "Hymns" so I was surprised that they only played a few tracks from that, focusing instead on Silent Alarm and Four. My only regret is that they didn't play a longer set!
Larger venue than needed for the crowd, but gave plenty of space to dance and so forth. Combined with the energy from the band, the concert had a very personal feel to it. Absolutely perfect mix of old and new songs.
I'm not going to lie, I went to this concert entirely for The Vaccines. I'm a huge fan of them and Bloc Party was just a bonus. I was not expecting an opening band, since I thought The Vaccines were opening for Bloc Party, but Oscar was so good I just found a new album & artist to love and hope to see in concert again. I was lucky enough to get to be in the front and it was amazing being so close for my first concert. Oscar was amazing, the vaccines has an awesome stage presence and they played all the songs I hoped they would and more, and then Bloc Party was awesome too with tons of energy and confetti. Great venue and great bands!
I've seen these guys quite a bit and have loved them. They played for just over an hour and that has to be my biggest gripe. The music and energy were intense and on-point but a one hour show, and you're the only band performing? There was no headliner. A bit disappointed on this one.
Me and my boyfriend were visiting from England and saw that Bloc Party were playing, and even though we don't particularly listen to them as much anymore, we thought we'd go see them play. As we don't know much of their new music we weren't really sure what to expect, but they played an incredible gig!! I will definitely be downloading their latest album! Highly recommended!
So AFAIR this is this 5th time I've seen them play & yet again they did NOT disappoint. Nice smattering of songs from all albums. Plenty of energy both on and off stage & sound was very good. HOB is a nice small venue (the smallest I've seen them in) so you definitely felt a good connection & could see perfectly. [I've pretty much given up on huge venues after my last Radiohead experience.]
Disappointed. They've changed. Waste of $31.50. They literally didn't try...
This was the 3rd time I've seen Bloc Party. They're always great, but this time was extra special. I got to see them in my home state, and I managed to get there early and get in the front row center on the barrier where I watched the entire show from. Bloc Party played a great set, and even the opening band, Bear Mountain was a pleasant surprise. Scored Kele's setlist, and hung out afterwards to get it signed by both Kele and Russell.
The sound wasn't too loud. The band was had very little energy except for the lead singer. I don't think it was a very good set of their music. They came out for a second encore. I don't even think they played good enough to come out for the first one. A lot of songs I was hoping to hear bud didn't. Maybe they played them on the second encore but I wasn't waiting around. As always the drinks are very expensive at HOB and I feel like one show takes away all my disposable income for the month.
I am a long time bloc party fan and this was the third time I have had the opportunity to see them live. The first two shows were in their native England, so I was ready for a bit of a let down seeing them here in the States. I was pleasantly surprised as Kele and co. put on another great show. The venue was great, the crowd was pretty good and although these boys have put out two-somewhat-disappointing albums, they played enough of the first two to keep everyone engaged and jumping on their feet. Excellent show!
It was a pretty great show! They played songs from all of their albums, and the band had a lot of energy. They sounded great! The lights were pretty great too.
Great show! Not only did they come back out for an encore, they came out a couple of times. I would go again in a heartbeat!
Bloc Party was so good. Played a great variety of their music.
I was so disappointed when they cancelled their last St. Louis show. They made it up to me:) Awesome show. Kele has been working out..ooo baby! Love when he dances a bit. LOVE you Bloc Partay!
