Blackfield was better than i expected!

by Robsgirlforever on 6/6/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I went to this concert for my boyfriend, and since i heard this music before on youtube, I wasnt a big fan to begin with. When I got to the concert, I was amazed. They were amazing, and totally put on a great show. They sound wayyy better live than they do in studio, and i would definitely go back!

    Blackfield killed it

by mikemarzocco on 6/6/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

As a long time fan of Steven Wilson, I had high expectations of this event. I saw them last year at some other joint across town and they were really good. This time they were even better. Everyone in the band has gotten better, the drummer is even better than the first time I saw them, which is un beleiveable! Tomer Z is the MAN. Seffy still does a great job on Bass and is a much better background singer than I remember from the last show. Aviv? Sang his heart out and has improved 100 percent on guitar, which lets Steven add the mood he does so well. Aviv has the riff on Open Mind down now...one of the best songs of the night because of his contribution. And Steven....well I personally feel like he has raised the level of the whole group and I will never stop being amazed at the emotion he puts in his guitar tone and vocals. I did not see him tune that guitar once, thats why I bought a PRS too!

    by CaleeKay on 6/6/11Studio 7 - Seattle

The title pretty much says it all. My boyfriend and I were stoked to hear them, not to mention our show didnt get cancelled which was super amazing. We hope they come back through again.

    Blackfield what a great night

by beyondthebassclef on 6/4/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

The show was fantastic. I got introduced to the band only in the last few days due to Jordan Rudes's post on Facebook. We love Porcupine Tree, and after a couple Blackfield tracks from Youtube, tickets were acquired. We love the Aladdin.

Blackfield: Steve Wilson can quit his day job

by CaseyKeeneyBoldt on 6/4/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

Steve Wilson is the only working musician today who can quit his day job with Porcupine Tree and comfortably fall back on his side project with Israeli superstar Aviv Geffen. Mike Portnoy can't even claim that. Instead of fawning and clamouring over the obvious musical goodness which I witnessed first-hand, I challenge you to do your own homework. Invest in their music and race to see them on their current tour. Wilson acknowledged during the set that Geffen writes most of the music for the band. Steve Wilson takes a back seat? That's all you need to know. In addition, The Aladdin Theatre in Portland, OR is built for delivering perfect sound. And the staff is amazingly helpful and friendly. I was impressed with my first visit. Now go and seek this band out. You will find it ALL in a Blackfield.

    Blackfield's triumphant return!

by vidgod on 6/3/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

After a week of cancelled shows, due to the untimely passing of Steven Wilson's father, Blackfield boldly returned to the stage in Seattle at Studio Seven, and at the Aladdin Theatre in Portland. Playing identical sets at both venues, the group performed flawlessly, providing a sound scape unequaled by anyone, save for Wilson's flagship band, Porcupine Tree. No one sings about pain, loss and suffering like Aviv Geffen. Aviv is a more typically flamboyant pop star than Steven, and makes for a stark counterpoint to Steven's more internalized approach. The rest of the band works very hard and brings home the beautiful pain in the heart of Blackfield's music. Excellent concert, jaw dropping guitar from Mr. Wilson. A great time had by all!

    Dark and beautifull!

Just an awesome show. The sound was great, and of course, and incredible band performing some sad and beautiful songs. I hope to see Blackfield again.

    Exactly what you would expect

    by VashonRockReviewer on 6/3/11Studio 7 - Seattle

I am a casual Blackfield/PT fan. This show was exactly what I expected....a collection of Blackfield songs played loud, with passion. Crowd was into it, and the band was equally charged up. I don't know that I can get very witty with my review other than to say it was definitely worth while. Please go see these guys. I walked away after having bought the first album on vinyl as well. So, that was cool. Only slight issue was it was SO loud. I'm no wimp and have seen hundreds of show in my day. I've never used earplugs at a show, but this one had me wishing I had some. Maybe it was just this venue? I don't know.

    Great show, terrible venue

    by Anonymous on 6/3/11Studio 7 - Seattle

Blackfield, as expected was great. The set list was well chosen, the band was in fine fettle, and Steven was especially good, but the Studio 7 venue was horrible, especially the sound. I'd recommend Blackfield in a heartbeat though. Hope to see them again at a different venue.

    Blackfield delivers!

    by tekkie2 on 6/3/11Studio 7 - Seattle

First, I have to say the venue was great, although standing for 4 hours was a bit hard. It was very intimate, so we were all able to get a good view of the band. I was only 2 people away from the stage with Steven Wilson in my sights the whole time. The music was great (although for the female audience, there was a bit of pause when they referred to "bitches"). They pepped it up a bit for the live performance, which made it even better. Tomer Z gave a great drum performance--adding extra fills throughout the entire show. I really enjoyed everyone's performance. Aviv did really well, and since he writes most of the music/lyrics, he deserves a lot of credit for the show. Thank you, Aviv! There were a few moments of feedback issues and the occasions when the voices weren't meshing well (a bit out of tune here and there), plus a difficult ending to one song, but overall, the performance was better than I expected from what I have seen in videos. Wish they could have kept playing all night! Great job, guys!

Just perfection of music from their 3 albums. Every song with intense energy.

Great show, best songs, could not have performed better. Though the opening artist, I felt, shouldn't have been chosen for this artist.

    Blackfield Blew Seattle Away!!

    by Audion on 6/2/11Studio 7 - Seattle

I wasn't sure how they would play out live since the bulk of their material is pretty laid back pop...but they rocked it. This was easily the best show I have seen since Porcupine Tree were here in 2009. There is a great synergy between Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen. Steve Wilson...what can I say, the greatest innovator in music today. See the show, you will go home feeling alive and well.

Aviv and Steven Wilson were amazing

    by aldburg on 6/2/11Studio 7 - Seattle

I'm going to make this short and simple. Blackfield was amazing. Aviv and Steven were highly energetic and played all their best songs form their 3 albums. Jordan Rudess, the pianist from Dream Theater, was also a plus for an opening act.

    Blackfield plays a platinum show

by Oldfatmaningrannyglasses on 5/24/11Royale Boston - Boston

Was giddy with delight when I heard they were coming to Boston. I’ve seen PT several times but never any of SW other projects. This was one show I was looking forward to and I was not disappointed. The band had a tight sound and SW and Aviv were the perfect co-front men. They did song songs from all three CD’s and the sound quality was pretty decent. Going in I had no idea how many other people in the Boston area had even heard of this band. I don’t know if it was sold out but it was pretty packed. They played for about an hour and 45 and the evening flew by. I could not name a particular stand out since every song they did was performed to perfection though I am on a cloud every time SW pulls out some lead guitar. Aviv did well on his piano solos as well as rhythm guitar both electric and acoustic. The opening duo was some acoustic version of a band I’ve never heard of but other’s sure did as they were mouthing the words to the songs. Great show, and I would definitely see them again.

    Awesome Show

Really enjoyed the set from these guys. Only wished they would have also played "On the Plane", but really the setlist was very good.

    Awesome

by JHilldrums on 5/23/11Royale Boston - Boston

Steven Wilson is a musical genius. Though not nearly as technical or nor pretty as the amazing chord progressions as other SW projects, this is a good band. Straight forward, basic, but still a great show.

Blackfield was a dream come true!

by MaineCoyote on 5/23/11Royale Boston - Boston

Blackfield rocked the Royale on Saturday night! They not only performed much of their newest cd, Welcome to My DNA, but many songs from their previous 2 cds. Every song was as good or better than their recordings. The crowd was especially enjoyable as they sang along and rocked with every tune. Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen have a very special relationship that shines through as they perform together and the whole band is a group of exceptionally talented musicians. If you ever have a chance to see this band, don't hesitate. They are well worth the trip even if you have to travel from afar. Blackfield will absolutely rock your heart and soul! Also, 2 members of the band Anathema warmed up the audience prior to Blackfield taking the stage. Their sound was unique and very enjoyable and, with any luck, they will bring their entire band to the states before year's end. Both Anathema and Blackfield gave their Boston audience an awesome and memorable show!
