Billy Raffoul in Concert
Billy Raffoul's stated goal: "Connect with people, one room at a time." It's a humble, journeyman musician's sentiment, the kind not normally associated with a young breakout star. And it goes to show that the singer-songwriter-guitarist is wise for his age.
That wisdom is heard all over Raffoul's debut EP, 1975, released in 2018 by Interscope Records to immediate accolades from the likes of Rolling Stone, NPR, and Time magazine. From the first note, Raffoul's gravel-on-glass voice conveys a sense of world-weary, hard-fought experience, and his poetic lyrics speak of soulful yearning and earnest regret. His alt-folk-pop arrangements rely on his tasteful acoustic guitar, backed by elemental drums and occasional electric flourishes.
The minimalism of 1975 contrasts with Raffoul's early singles, like the smoldering, grandiose "I'm Not a Saint" and "Driver," the guitar-grinding alt-rock anthem that put Raffoul on the map in 2017. Each of these songs demonstrates Raffoul as a rare talent with a unique point of view. These days he splits his time between Nashville and Los Angeles — when he isn't on the road, that is. His summer 2019 cross-country tour will win him fans one show at a time, just like he planned.
Billy Raffoul Background
It's no stretch to say that Raffoul was born into his rockstar role. His mother is an artist, author, and teacher. His father, Jody Raffoul, is a mainstay of southern Ontario's rock scene who over the last 30 years has performed in the U.S. and Canada with the likes of Collective Soul, Kid Rock, Joe Cocker, Blues Traveler, Counting Crows, and Bon Jovi.
Growing up in the tiny town of Leamington, Ontario, Billy received his first guitar when he was 10 — a gift from his dad that he soon taught himself to play. As a teenager, he was regularly called to local recording studios to provide scratch vocals for demos. One day, the engineers asked if he had any original material, and the video they recorded made it into the hands of his current manager, who used to work with Kid Rock. The next day, the two of them drove to Nashville, and that's where Raffoul began his career as a professional musician.

Normally, I’m okay with going to see an artist perform their songs and talk about personal experiences. Only for some reason, Peter and Billy Raffoul made it feel more intimate. Not sure if it was because they’re siblings, but the chemistry of brotherly love was welcoming. Yes, they both performed separately, but they song one some together and that was just something I wasn’t expecting. I went with the expectations of enjoying Billy’s song Acoustic (mind you the entire playlist was amazing), but as I got in my car I first played Peter’s song Get Back Up Kid. I can’t want when Billy’s new album lands, I’m sure another concert will happen and if they do come to LA, I’ll definitely be seeing him again (hopefully Peter can join as well).
Billy and Peter always give the best performances. With laughs and tears and overall genuinely a great connection. This is my 3rd time seeing Billy and my 4th time seeing Peter and I am so excited to see them again
Great Show, awesome sound!!! Billy and his brother were both amazing and very nice. They hung out to sell Merch and meet and greet all of the fans. We had a BLAST!!!
We saw Billy in Detroit, Michigan when he opened for NEEDTOBREATHE in 2018. Instantly added him to my playlist and have been listening/following ever since. Talented young man.
Billy Raffoul presented an exceptional show at the HOB Houston. Billy’s soulful delivery of his heartfelt songs and his approachability made this an unforgettable experience. Billy’s softly raspy vocals are evocative and Invite the inevitable comparisons to Joe Cocker. All the band members delivered a solid and captivating performance. The HOB missed the opportunity to promote this show as it should have been, so the audience was smaller than this talented artist deserved. The Bronze Peacock Room is a small room which provides a very intimate concert experience, but there were some inconveniences. Construction to the complex barred entry to the HOB elevator. Loud music from the neighboring dueling piano bar bled annoyingly into the HOB. There was a stage lighting issue which plunged the stage into darkness for almost 10 minutes. Billy and band played on lit by audience members’ cell phones. I’m happy to be among the fortunate who attended and were treated to a wonderful show. I am hopeful there will be an opportunity to see Billy Raffoul again live in the near future. Meanwhile I am savoring his long-awaited freshman EP, 1975.
Incredibly intimate venue with such a charismatic singer and his band! Fantastic!
