About

That face, that name, that sneer. Rock icon BILLY IDOL, known for a plethora of hit singles including “Rebel Yell,” “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself” “Eyes Without A Face” and many more, returns this summer to perform at The Outer Fields, Western Springs on Sunday, January 19.

Sharing the stage for an epic Sunday afternoon and evening of live music are seminal New Zealand artists Stellar* and Elemeno P.

Artisanal beers, wines and great food, as well as fun attractions, will add to the festival ambience of the day. The event is GA/All ages so bring the family and settle in for a late Summer’s Sunday of great entertainment.

An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, Billy Idol remains to this day a true rock 'n' roll icon. From punk pioneer to global superstar, Billy Idol has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend. Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, Idol spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, Idol was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, Billy Idol hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged.

Idol’s lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognisable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played.  He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the US and 10 in the UK.  Hit singles include ‘Dancing With Myself’, ‘Hot In The City’, ‘Eyes Without A Face’, ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘Mony Mony’, and arguably Idol’s most famed song ‘White Wedding’.

Legendary four-piece band Stellar*, fronted by the dynamic singer/songwriter/guitarist Boh Runga, are Sony New Zealand’s highest selling Kiwi band. Dominating the airwaves and charts throughout the early 2000’s Stellar* boast three Top 10 albums, 9 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and a legion of fans throughout the country.

Known for their pulsating live performances, Stellar* return in 2020 to perform a series of special shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their 5 star debut album MIX. That album sold 80,000 copies (5 x Platinum) and generated five top 20 singles – ‘Part Of Me’, ‘Violent’, ‘Undone’, ‘Every Girl’ and ‘What You Do (Bastard)’ – all massive radio singles and indelibly etched in the Kiwi music landscape.  Expect a dynamic set featuring MIX in full, more hits, plus their killer version of Sharon O’Neill’s ‘Maxine’ – which took the 2017 Vodafone NZ Music Awards by storm.

In the early 2000’s Elemeno P erupted onto the New Zealand rock scene, seemingly from out of nowhere. A four-piece with straight-arrow, energetic, power-pop anthems. A succession of massive hits such as ‘Verona’, ‘Every Day’s A Saturday’, ‘Fast Times in Tahoe’ and ’11.57’ followed.

Equipped with a fun-loving attitude, Elemeno P soon became household favourites across the nation, releasing a trifecta of top tier albums in the space of six years.

The band’s debut album ‘Love & Disrespect’ was released in 2003, reaching number #1 on the New Zealand album charts and went on to sell triple platinum. Two more albums would follow, selling Platinum and Gold respectively and leading to the band taking home Best Group at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2008. Elemeno P make a welcome return to the stage in January 2020.

  • Awesome performers, excellent venue, sound needs work.

by Belle on 8/22/25Broadview Stage at SPAC - Saratoga SpringsRating: 4 out of 5

Joan Jet and the black hearts, were fantastic. No complaints. I love Billy Idol and all of his band, but the sound engineer needs a lot of help. When you can't distinguish clear sound from each instrument, and from the vocals, it's like buying top of the line restaurant fair, And getting a cheap hamburger smothered in rancid ketchup.

  • Worth every penny spent and 40 years of waiting!

by Beer Kittu Kitty on 8/22/25TD Pavilion at the Mann - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

After growing up with his songs firmly embedded in the soundtrack of my youth, I finally saw Billy Idol live for the first time at Cruel World 2023, and even though he only performed a truncated set, it was enough for me to vow then and there to see him whenever he came to Philly, and 2 years later, he did NOT disappoint! The energy, the sheer, palpable joy and gratitude exuding from that man in every minute on stage, confirmed my every hope for enjoying his headlining performance. Even his "thank you all so much for giving me such an amazing life"shout out during the encore just made it all the nore worth the wait. My feet could not stop dancing for nearly the entire night (especially Cradle of Love! Always a favorite! ), and after the row in front of us emptied out before the encore, I jumped down to enjoy my extended dance floor and let loose for some serious booty shaking for Hot in the City. Halfway through, another fan jumped up next to me, gave me a great, big hug, and shouted into my ear, "the only person in the world having more fun than you right this minute is on that stage! " ... and she was not wrong! Thank you, Billy!

  • Still rocking it!

Billy Idol still has a lot of energy and a great stage presence! His lead guitarist was awesome! You could tell the band was having fun on stage as was the crowd. It would have been cool if Billy went into the audience.

  • long live rock

Joan Jet opened great set she is ageless the band was great and so was she an opening act which could have a headliner Billy Idol rocked the cradle of love and the house backed by a great band .Steve Stevens was his usual self brilliant guitarist that Idol fed off of thru a collection of Idol classics such as flesh for fantasy, cradle of love, hot in the city, rebel yell and of course white wedding a great night

  • An amazing concert!

by Johnp on 8/21/25Broadview Stage at SPAC - Saratoga SpringsRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Idol and his band were excellent. He interacted with the audience, was very personable, and really appreciated his band mates. Steve Stevens shredded on guitar and it reflected their long musical partnership. I saw him in the late 80s & they stood the test of time.! Opening at Joan Jett and The Black Hearts also put on a great show! I would definitely go again.

  • Great! ….but also not so much

by Spydyr on 8/21/25Rating: 3 out of 5

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were easily the best of this bill. I’ve seen her several times between 1980s and now. Her voice is still strong and they played a good mix of her songs and covers. The light/graphics show was on point! But Billy Idol seemed to be struggling. At first, I thought his mic was cutting out. But no, it was him. It just seemed like he was missing lyrics or mumbling through a lot of the songs. Strangely, Ready Steady Go was the best song he played all night. That aside, every two songs, Steve Stevens did (what felt like) a 5 minute guitar solo while Billy did a costume change. While I love Steve, and his guitar playing is excellent, it was just way too much lag between songs. 30 minutes of music stretched out to a 90 minute show.

  • Billy Idol

by Foomiester on 8/21/25Broadview Stage at SPAC - Saratoga SpringsRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing Billy Idol. Hopefully not the last. Awesome next time I'll be closer. Joan Jett improved later in her appearance. Hate cherry bomb even though it's a trademark song for her.

Everything about his performance was perfect! He has incredible energy and is in better shape than most 20 year olds. His voice is perfect, as good as ever. Steve Stevens is at the top of his game, and they rocked for over two hours. The vibes were awesome, and he gave us a great night. Must see!!!

Worth every dollar! Show was exceptional and venue comfortable and safe.

  • Obstructed seats, not happy

by Rocker on 8/20/25Broadview Stage at SPAC - Saratoga SpringsRating: 3 out of 5

When I purchased the tickets, there was no indication that 2 of the seats had an obstructed view. And they were the same price as the other 2 seats- should have been less. It would be nice if someone responded.

  • Interesting

by Frankie Boy on 8/20/25Broadview Stage at SPAC - Saratoga SpringsRating: 4 out of 5

Joan Jett - with Billy Idol as the headliner was a pretty good concert. Joan Jett and her band exceeded my expectations as she was able to belt out her hits and some covers that really hit a home run. Billy Idol - 69 yo, showed his age towards the show end. His voice became weak as he hit the half way portion of his set. Great guiter work by his lead guitarist who generally stole the spotlight.
