That face, that name, that sneer. Rock icon BILLY IDOL, known for a plethora of hit singles including “Rebel Yell,” “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself” “Eyes Without A Face” and many more, returns this summer to perform at The Outer Fields, Western Springs on Sunday, January 19.
Sharing the stage for an epic Sunday afternoon and evening of live music are seminal New Zealand artists Stellar* and Elemeno P.
Artisanal beers, wines and great food, as well as fun attractions, will add to the festival ambience of the day. The event is GA/All ages so bring the family and settle in for a late Summer’s Sunday of great entertainment.
An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, Billy Idol remains to this day a true rock 'n' roll icon. From punk pioneer to global superstar, Billy Idol has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend. Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, Idol spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, Idol was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, Billy Idol hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged.
Idol’s lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognisable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played. He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the US and 10 in the UK. Hit singles include ‘Dancing With Myself’, ‘Hot In The City’, ‘Eyes Without A Face’, ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘Mony Mony’, and arguably Idol’s most famed song ‘White Wedding’.
Legendary four-piece band Stellar*, fronted by the dynamic singer/songwriter/guitarist Boh Runga, are Sony New Zealand’s highest selling Kiwi band. Dominating the airwaves and charts throughout the early 2000’s Stellar* boast three Top 10 albums, 9 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and a legion of fans throughout the country.
Known for their pulsating live performances, Stellar* return in 2020 to perform a series of special shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their 5 star debut album MIX. That album sold 80,000 copies (5 x Platinum) and generated five top 20 singles – ‘Part Of Me’, ‘Violent’, ‘Undone’, ‘Every Girl’ and ‘What You Do (Bastard)’ – all massive radio singles and indelibly etched in the Kiwi music landscape. Expect a dynamic set featuring MIX in full, more hits, plus their killer version of Sharon O’Neill’s ‘Maxine’ – which took the 2017 Vodafone NZ Music Awards by storm.
In the early 2000’s Elemeno P erupted onto the New Zealand rock scene, seemingly from out of nowhere. A four-piece with straight-arrow, energetic, power-pop anthems. A succession of massive hits such as ‘Verona’, ‘Every Day’s A Saturday’, ‘Fast Times in Tahoe’ and ’11.57’ followed.
Equipped with a fun-loving attitude, Elemeno P soon became household favourites across the nation, releasing a trifecta of top tier albums in the space of six years.
The band’s debut album ‘Love & Disrespect’ was released in 2003, reaching number #1 on the New Zealand album charts and went on to sell triple platinum. Two more albums would follow, selling Platinum and Gold respectively and leading to the band taking home Best Group at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2008. Elemeno P make a welcome return to the stage in January 2020.

He was truly amazing. I am a concert going and he is on up there with Van Halen and Prince. Great great show.
Billy Idol was awesome! He really seemed to enjoy rocking out as much as we enjoyed hearing him. Steve Stevens also made show great! Band overall awesome. The Palladium in Dallas was hotter than Hell though. I probably would not go back there.
WOW! This is the MUST SEE show of all time! Billy and his band are highly energetic, passionate performers. They live to rock the house down. I saw him at the Palladium in Dallas and was able to plant myself within 6 feet of the stage-unreal!!!! Billy's voice remains unmistakeable and truly remarkable. His physique is a work of art-he has the body of a 20 something. He is in peak atheletic condition and has not lost an ounce of his pure raw sex appeal! My friends and I were blown away. We danced all night to many old favorites. Bill Idol aims to please. This is a performance not to miss!
I never got the chance to see Billy Idol in his 80's heyday, but last night made up for it! I was not disappointed! I played the Rebel Yell album in 1983 over and over. Still have it to this day. Steve Stevens is an unbelievable guitarist! Guitar solos on Eyes Without a Face and Rebel Yell were awe inspiring! They covered almost every song they've made. Hard to perform everything. Flesh for Fantasy is my personal favorite, with Eyes Without a Face a close second. Thanks for going on tour again for us 40 something's who never got the chance to see you as a teen Billy. Also, thanks for bringing Steve Stevens on tour with you. You guys compliment each other so well!
Billy put on a great show singing a few Gen X songs, a few new songs and a good cross section of his classics. He is in great shape, appeared sober and clean. He engaged the audience and seemed very appreciative of the opportunity to be up on stage entertaining everyone. The new songs seemed to be introspective and really acknowledge the charmed life has lived. Could it be that Billy has really matured....Good for him. Perhaps that means we will be able to share many more years with him. It's hard to imagine a Billy Idol show without Steve Stevens. Steve continues to shred a guitar. It's good to see them on stage together. I hope Billy will drop a new album and tour again!
He or Steve haven't lost a thing. He was in fantastic shape. Awesome -- and loud.
WOW! What can I say... One of the best shows in a long time. He is totally hot and still has an amazing voice!
I invited 5 others to the show that had not seen Billy before. I was hoping that the show would be as good as the last time I saw Billy & Steve perform. It turned out great & everyone engoyed the show. I would see them again if I get the chance.
Great show - loved the small venue - was able to get very close to the stage and Billy is a great performer. Band rocked and you could tell they had a great chemistry working together and were just having fun. Highly recommend the show and the Palladium.
Billy, Idol, Steve Stevens, and the new lineup are fantastic! Billy is still the consummate, high energy showman, and his vocals are as strong as they have ever been. Steve Stevens' guitar work is amazing, and I believe he is one of the greatest guitar players of our time. Don't miss this show!!!
Overall it was a good concert. Viewing the concert was difficult at times and the TV's had burn in on them "coming soon" so you could not see on the remote monitors. Suggest the Palladium invest in new ones and better cameras. Leaving the concert was painful - they need to get some help from Police or traffic controllers to better exit the area. Back to the concert. Billy Idol looked and sounded great - had a whiplash smile the whole time and was working the crowd. Steve Stevens was amazing on the guitar and the solo teazers with Led Zepplin and Robin Trower were excellent! The rest of the band was tight as well and contributed equally. They played a few Generation X songs that were great too.
What a show!!! We have attended The Majestic in Dallas several times and have been totally blown away with the whole atmosphere! Billy rocked the show - he was scheduled for 8:30pm and was on stage on time. His interaction with the crowd was unbelievable and his mix of very old (remember Generation X "King Rocker"?) and new stuff along with his backbone of popular hits was riveting! The stage set up was marvellous (No details - this would spoil it for people who have yet to see the show). GO SEE HIM - YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
The concert was good, but the set list was less than comprehensive. I was disappointed not to hear anything from Whiplash Smile, Cyberpunk, Charmed Life, etc.
If you're a fan see Billy Idol live! It's the best concert I've seen and it's the first Billy Idol concert I've ever been to. I have already recommended Billy Idol concerts to my friends. The entire band is great and there were fantastic guitar solos by Steve Stevens. Billy Idol is rocking some hot abs and great tunes! SEE HIM LIVE!
sat nite billy idol put on a very energetic show ,he sounded great ,the wife and relived our youth thanks billy ,rock on.
Billy was on top of his game at The Fillmore. He performed songs from Gen X, to his classic hits, to some excellent new songs. The venue was great, the crowd was into it and Billy and the band performed each song with high intensity.
Billy Idol always puts on an amazing show and Steve Stevens on the guitar is amazing!
The concert was fantastic. He sounds exactly the same, has great energy, sweet abs, and still looks hansom. He played all of his songs perfectly. I would have paid double that's how good it was!

He still sounds and looks great. The Pearl is a great location for concerts. Not a bad seat in the place.
