About

Billy Gibbons in Concert

From his awesome beard to his massive riffs and gravelly voice, Gibbons has been carving out his own place in music history for the past 50 years. Born in 1949 in Houston, Texas, to a father who was a concert pianist and orchestra conductor, Gibbons rebelled by picking up the electric guitar at age 13. As a teen he played in a number of bands, striking gold as his group The Moving Sidewalks penned the Doors-esque "99th Floor," which became a hit in Houston. Oh, and they opened for Jimi Hendrix during his first American headlining tour. Those experiences would give Gibbons the fire he needed going forward, as he would form ZZ Top in 1969. With the rough-riding, groundbreaking group, he found incredible mainstream success throughout their numerous platinum-selling releases (‘Degüelo,' ‘Eliminator,' ‘Afterburner'), chart-scorching singles ("La Grange," "Gimme All Your Lovin," "Sleeping Bag"), and numerous awards and distinctions, including an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

Gibbons' solo career took off late in life, with his first solo LP dropping in 2015. ‘Perfectamundo' delivered everything one could desire from a Gibbons solo album: Afro-Cuban rhythms, grungy blues licks, and a Tom Waits-flavored general dirtiness. Its follow-up, the energetic ‘Big Bad Blues,' was released three years later, in 2018.

As a collaborator, Gibbons has lent guitar bliss to countless big-time musicians and their songs, including Queens of the Stone Age's "Burn the Witch," B.B. King's "Tired of Your Jive" (from ‘B.B. King and Friends'), Nickelback's "Rockstar," Hank Williams III's "Trashville.' In addition, he's performed in a ton of blockbuster supersessions, like when he joined Lou Reed and Jim Jarmusch to play with The Raconteurs at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, or when he played Skynyrd's "Free Bird" on ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien' alongside Ben Harper, Beck, Will Ferrell, and Conan himself.

    Excellent Show

by Redbird Randy on 1/2/23Antone's Nightclub - Austin

It was a shame that Jimmie Vaughan did not make it but Billy and Sue Foley were spot on. I love Antone's for live music events. Best place in Austin. Can't wait for next year's show.

    Great Venue

by Jess on 1/1/23Antone's Nightclub - Austin

This show was amazing, up close and personal. They accommodated us right away when we asked for ADA seating since you couldn't choose it on the site when we purchased our tickets. Very small but quaint venue. It was packed wall to wall for this show. But Billy can sell out any venue. Wait staff was amazing and served with a smile. Highly recommended

Without Jimmy there, you’re not running on all cylinders. You got us there…but not in the usual style.

    The Jungle Shoe

by Wes on 12/30/22Antone's Nightclub - Austin

Great holiday tradition. Billy's supporting mates are top notch. I actulally went 3 yesrs ago to see Chris Layton and first heard Sue Foley. Saw Sue solo in a club at what I consider to be my best show ever. Jungle does not disappoint.

    I loved the evening

by Mary on 12/30/22Antone's Nightclub - Austin

I wish his equipment was in better working condition. His voice was weak, wish Jimmy Vaughn hadn't been sick. Of it was a fun night.

by Angela on 12/30/22Antone's Nightclub - Austin

I got VIP tickets but spent most of my time down stairs on the main floor. I’m so old that as a teenager I saw ZZ Top it was fun to hear the music again

    Billy Gibbons Rocked the House

by shuke on 10/29/18The Cabot - Beverly

Shelly and I saw the show with my good friend of almost 50 years and his wife. Row H on the floor. Band was tight with Billy, the drummer from Guns & Roses, a phenomenal left handed guitarist and Ellwood who played a great guitar and harmonica. Blues, classic ZZ Top classics and covered Whole Lotta Love with drummer singing.

BILLY F GIBBONS, ENOUGH SAID !!!!!!!

by SfTulL on 10/23/18The Pageant - St. Louis

Mr. Gibbons rocked the Pageant thur. night. Going in I thought it was going to be a more blues show, but to my surprise it was a mix of the new album, some ZZ songs, and some nice covers . Mat hits:em hard, and Austin does a fine job to. Billy is always a class act. It was nice to see him in a small venue again, worth every penny If you get the chance, GO.

Billy Gibbons at Pageant in St Louis

by Anonymous on 10/21/18The Pageant - St Louis

Great night of Big Bad Blues with the Reverend Billy G. He and band were in great form. Strong mix of new tunes from latest album plus several ZZ classics, and a few cool covers thrown in. Billy had great energy throughout show, told a few short stories, but mostly kept the tunes coming. Played slide for one or two tunes in middle of set which was cool. His band was tight, with the drummer (from GNR) particularly impressive. Sound mix was strong, and venue is awesome for upclose view of an icon in action. If this show comes to your town, do yourself a favor and get a ticket.
