About

BIG HEAD TODD & THE MONSTERS IN CONCERT:

Rocky Mountain favorites Big Head Todd & the Monsters have been serving up no-frills blues rock since the late '80s, but it was '90s classics like "Bittersweet" and "Circle" that really put them on the map. More than 20 years later, the band has still got it, and they've had ample time to perfect their live show, often taking the stage for more than three hours on their 2013 tour dates. Punctuating the band's marathon sets are extensive solos by guitar virtuoso and frontman Todd Park Mohr, who rifles through his arsenal of guitars while dueling with the band's frequent special guest performers. Fans can expect another impressive series of shows as the band hits the road once again in support of 2014's Black Beehive.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Colorado in the late '80s, Big Head Todd & the Monsters enjoyed a slow but steady rise thanks to their hard work on the road. Already a revered live act by the time of their 1989 self-titled debut album, the band found mainstream success with 1993's Sister Sweetly, which spawned three charting singles and went on to receive platinum certification from the RIAA. Over the years Big Head Todd & the Monsters have recorded and performed with blues legends including John Lee Hooker and B.B. King, maintaining an impressive release schedule that has kept them busy on tour. With the release of Black Beehive in 2014, the band celebrated 25 years of recording, hitting the road for an extensive US tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Big Head Todd played an outstanding set of tunes and gave us more than our money's worth. Amazing show by an amazing group."

"BHTM has a huge catalogue of great songs and they played most. Also rocked some great covers. This band has been together many years and the musicianship is top notch."

"Almost 20 years after his "heyday," Todd Park Mohr has honed his guitar prowess to a master-level distinction, grinding out a truly signature style in both his classic renditions and recently-released compositions..."

Fredrick Toots Hibert is the man who created the word REGGAE by combining the words RAG and GAY....he's one of the most revered musicians in the world and a grammy winner....and you had him OPENING for...who was it again? big head what and the who? We came to see toots and left when he did. It was totally awesome. Exactly what I expected. No words for this level of awesomeness. Bring more reggae.

Big Head Todd rocked but show length disappointed

by Nebdude on 6/12/11Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council Bluffs

These guys are excellent and always have been. They pack Red Rocks where I've seen them several times. Todd's guitar work is sweet and impressive. However, I've seen hundreds of rock shows in my life, and any time a great band who I pay good money to see (and often travel distances to attend) can't play for at least two hours, I'm going to be disappointed. This was the case Friday, June 10 at Stir Concert Cove in Omaha. Two hour shows leave me wanting more, and I'll WILL be back. Anything less than two hours leaves me wanting more, but I may not be back. Todd, you owe it to your fans buddy!

    Not as expected

by Baceman on 2/23/11Uptown Theater - Kansas City

My wife and I absolutely love Big Head Todd and see them any chance we get. We bought these tickets under the impression for all the information provided that this was them playing. It wasn't until we bought the tickets and the confirmation email came that I noticed the "Blues at the Crossroads" wording. When I received the hard copy tickets I saw the same thing. It wasn't until we were at the show that we realized it was a blues event and none of their material. Very disappointing to say the least. I bought them for a Valentine's gift to surprise the wife as they are the band we first saw together in college at KU.

    Blues.. old school and Chicago

by juce01 on 2/15/11Uptown Theater - Kansas City

This was a great show if you enjoy the blues and want to hear some masterful musicians take you on a trip. Started with stripped down Robert Johnson blues. Half the show included legendary bluesmen Hubert Sumllin and James Cotton (on the mississippi saxaphone). And ended with some ripping Chicago blues. It was an excellent trip. -some shows include Honeyboy Edwards rather than Cotton. In any event, the Big Head Todd core has fun while taking on on the blues ride.

Good night to sing the blues

by Bluesbuddy on 2/15/11Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Big Head Todd and the Monsters showed a love of the blues and brought in some great acts to share the stage with, unfortunately some of them did not get to share the PA system very well. It was nearly impossible to hear Hubert Sumlin and James Cotton, two legends of blues. Further, there was confusion during at least one song as to what key it was in, and James was the one left out of the mix. He handled it very professionally, but I am sure he was quite confused, since one of the band actually tried to give him a different harmonica.

    Better Blues Bands in KC

by Crowfeetcarp on 2/15/11Uptown Theater - Kansas City

There are much better Blues Bands in Kansas City than BHT. However, it was fun to hear Malcolm play and sing (get off the stage BHT). I came to see Cotton and Sumlin again. I have heard both in their younger days. They are still very good, but with less energy. They were everything I was hoping for. They could have played more Johnson songs and done a bit more acoustic blues. Overall a good evening, especially as everyone warmed up at the end. Not worth the ticket price unless you want to see and hear two blues legends one more time.

Great show would have been enjoyed more if I had attended with better company. Big head Todd was suprizing and I Loved the way the set progressed from solos to adding in more players one at a time. The sound in the entire theatre was fantastic!

    Blues at the Crossroads

by turkeyhntr on 2/14/11Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Probably one of the best shows I have ever seen. No real format to the show, just artists going on and off the stage, doing what they do best. I had not listened to Big Head Todd and the Monsters for years and this was not what I expected. They did not do any of their own music, they honored Robert Johnson. What an awesome show they put on, for three hours.

This event had Big Head Todd and the Monsters as their top billed act. BHT played NONE of their originals and the event was terribly misrepresented. My group bought four tickets at 70 dollars each for a show we did not even expect or enjoy. When I discussed this with the onsite box office, the promoter refused remediation. To say we were extremely disappointed would be an understatement. We traveled from out of town, spent hundreds on hotels and gas and time, for a show we were not even expecting.

    Shawn Mullins was awesome!

by Spark88 on 2/9/11House of Blues Houston - Houston

First visit to Houston House of Blues and it was great. Parking and finding the restaurant/concert entrances were a tiny bit confusing at first, but we won't have a problem next time. I highly recommend making a reservation to eat at the House of Blues before seeing a show. Seating and viewing the actual concert was great, except for a few people who felt the need to stand up and dance blocking the view of others. Like that there was a bar on both levels.

Big Head Todd rocks Voodoo Chile!

by BHTfan on 11/22/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

Big Head Todd was outstanding. They definitely exceeded my expectations. The venue was great and the music even better. You don't ATTEMPT to play Voodoo Chile unless you can pull it off. He not only pulled it off, he tore it up. To be talked about alongside Stevie Ray Vaughn is an honor and this guy is right there with him. He is an incredible guitarist.

Big Head Todd and The Monsters didn't let us down. These guys continue to tear it up. I wish they would come around Houston a bit more. Looking forward to next year if we are so lucky to have them back.
