About

All the world's a stage, and the Spanish guitar is one of its greatest instruments. Benise is bringing his Flamenco-inspired pieces and tango-infused dance numbers to the stage, leaving all who hear him spellbound in his wake. Benise is a world-renowned guitarist who has brought his unique blend of Spanish guitar and world music to stages worldwide since the early 2000s. His 2022 tour, aptly named the "20th Anniversary Tour," showcases the best of Benise throughout the years by virtue of music and dance.

His passion for the guitar has taken him on an incredible journey from the streets of Omaha to busking in Southern California and finally to the world stage. Known as "The Prince of Spanish Guitar," Benise has been wowing audiences worldwide with his sizzling music and spellbinding dance for over two decades, rocking fans across the globe with his sultry blend of Spanish guitar and world rhythms, winning the hearts of millions of fans worldwide.

The result: a mesmerizing feast of sight and sound from which no audience member will ever want to escape. Benise has truly mastered an international style of music having been influenced by nearly every genre possible, with great depth and passion vibrating underneath.

Growing up on a farm in Nebraska, his devotion to rock music was palpable. That success was just a twinkle in Benise's eye before finally picking up flamenco music in 1994. From there, he met violinist Jim Sitterly, guitarists Gilberto Gonzales and Yussi, bassist Mychal Lomas, drummer Carlos Lopez, and percussionist CG Ryche and formed a band (also) called Benise.

Benise's sound is primarily influenced by flamenco music and incorporates elements spanning Brazilian samba, Cuban salsa, Parisian waltz, African drumming, and more. The magic happens by bringing together musicians from different countries to create a unique sound that melds their cultures through music.

A significant turning point in Benise's career came when PBS approached him to create a show for its "Great Performances'' series. He spent time writing and recording what would become "Nights of Fire!" -- which made its broadcast debut on public television stations nationwide in 2006 and subsequently won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety or Music Program.

Since its debut, "Nights of Fire!" has drawn in audiences of all types -- whether or not they have any familiarity with flamenco music. Dazzling lights, dancers and aerial performers make you feel like you're experiencing something transcendent rather than just listening to a concert.

Benise's ability to reproduce sounds from around the world makes him a force of nature. His original style has earned him worldwide recognition, while he continues to push the envelope. Don't miss out on this unique spellbinding performance and see Benise live when he comes to a city near you.

    Disappointed

by Pescaman on 1/30/24Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I’ve seen Benise several times before. This performance had mostly recorded music. Fewer dancers, no Violinist and was pretty boring. I was expecting a full show, instead it was very small.

    Choreography can use help

by canbebetter on 1/30/24Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Very talented musicians but as a spectacle it lacks, choreography is poor, dancers (although talented) did not seem as part of spectacle..... and the audience getting up continuously and having the light of the cell phones was uncomfortable.

    Not what I expected

by Ramon on 1/30/24Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Was expecting more Flamenco Spanish music. Could not hear the dancers clogging on the floor, could not appreciate their dancing skills. Too much recorded music.

Benise Fiesta @ The Balboa Theatre

by Don on 1/30/24Balboa Theatre - San Diego

We enjoyed this wonderful 2 hour show. The music was provided by a 5 piece band comprised of a drummer, percussionist, bass, rhythm and lead guitars. Each giving at least one virtuoso solo performance on their instruments showcasing their talents. The dancers were fantastic, demonstrating their skilled fluid and dynamic movements as needed ranging from ballet, flamenco, gypsy fusion, classical and modern dance techniques. They wore beautiful costumes appropriate for each segment enhancing their presentation. The sound, lighting and back drops provided were excellent, varied and detailed providing a corresponding ambiance with each song allowing the players to interact with the audience which created an almost club like intimate atmosphere. Overall, a show not to be missed!

    Energentic & Connected

by Gina on 1/30/24Balboa Theatre - San Diego

My husband and I took my Mom 90 & Pop 92. They enjoyed it as much as we did! Mom was dancing in her chair throughout the show. My Pop was so entertained, he is hard of hearing but he was able to hear everything. Had never heard of Benise until I received notice for show. We're so glad we went! The colors and sounds were perfect! Watching the entertainers on stage always smiling and enjoying themselves made it even better. We are tempted to visit Las Vegas to see another show. Knowing he got his started here in San Diego is even better.

Good Performance But Not What I Expected

by Jeff G on 10/18/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - Miami

I wasn't familiar with Benise when I bought tickets for my girlfriend and myself but I saw the references to Spanish guitar, so I thought I knew what to expect. However, instead of the slower tempo, acoustic Spanish guitar that I'm accustomed, Benise specializes in playing covers of songs in a fast tempo style. I mean, one of the first tracks was a cover of Led Zeppelin's Kasmir. Additionally, he frequently employs an orchestral or choral soundtrack, which was often so loud that it drowned out Benise's individual performance (as well as those of his band.) The saving grace was the dancers, who brought beauty and grace to the stage and really complemented the musical performance. So I'm giving the overall performance four stars, but I don't plan to attend another Benise show.

    They never sang or played

by Vivían on 10/18/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - Miami

They never sang or played the instruments in the show, they didn't even try to imitate that they were doing so. It’s so sad.

    NONSTOP ACUSTICS

by JV on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - Miami

It's a choice if you've never seen Benise. However, the PBS video seems more exhilarating than the live performance itself. Unfortunately, the show has mostly stayed the same in the last three years. I would suggest and welcome new songs, dances, and repertoire. What to expect: during the 90-minute nonstop performance, Benise leads a talented ensemble comprising two additional guitarists, two drummers, and four dancers. Their acoustic variety show encompasses an impressive range of musical genres, including Beethoven, Rock, Flamenco, Salsa, and many more. However, the cast appeared to lack genuine enthusiasm. They seemed to just be going through the motions, getting through another show. Beyond the staleness of the show and the lack of enthusiasm, I was also disappointed that the information about the VIP experience was not shared until 24 hours before the show. Unfortunately, we missed meeting the performer during the rehearsal and did not receive the autographed CD.

    Don’t sit in the Balcony

by Jorjay on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - Miami

My expectations are high but I’m a guitar player so I’m bias. Benise is an subpar traditional guitar player that thinks he’s a rock star, but my wife enjoyed it thoroughly. The percussionists were the best part of the show. The dancers came in close second.

    Awesome!

by Rosy on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - Miami

The best show yet. It was super entertaining, wonderful music and dancers. Could have watched all night. Of course Benise's guitar playing is the best. Can't wait to see him again next year.

    Missing dancers

by Lucinda on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - Miami

I did enjoy the show. One hour and a half went by too quickly. This was my first experience with Benise. !!! I felt there could have been more dancers to accompany the guitarists. Stage seemed rather empty. More dancers would have made the show more entertaining and complete.
