About

All the world's a stage, and the Spanish guitar is one of its greatest instruments. Benise is bringing his Flamenco-inspired pieces and tango-infused dance numbers to the stage, leaving all who hear him spellbound in his wake. Benise is a world-renowned guitarist who has brought his unique blend of Spanish guitar and world music to stages worldwide since the early 2000s. His 2022 tour, aptly named the "20th Anniversary Tour," showcases the best of Benise throughout the years by virtue of music and dance.

His passion for the guitar has taken him on an incredible journey from the streets of Omaha to busking in Southern California and finally to the world stage. Known as "The Prince of Spanish Guitar," Benise has been wowing audiences worldwide with his sizzling music and spellbinding dance for over two decades, rocking fans across the globe with his sultry blend of Spanish guitar and world rhythms, winning the hearts of millions of fans worldwide.

The result: a mesmerizing feast of sight and sound from which no audience member will ever want to escape. Benise has truly mastered an international style of music having been influenced by nearly every genre possible, with great depth and passion vibrating underneath.

Growing up on a farm in Nebraska, his devotion to rock music was palpable. That success was just a twinkle in Benise's eye before finally picking up flamenco music in 1994. From there, he met violinist Jim Sitterly, guitarists Gilberto Gonzales and Yussi, bassist Mychal Lomas, drummer Carlos Lopez, and percussionist CG Ryche and formed a band (also) called Benise.

Benise's sound is primarily influenced by flamenco music and incorporates elements spanning Brazilian samba, Cuban salsa, Parisian waltz, African drumming, and more. The magic happens by bringing together musicians from different countries to create a unique sound that melds their cultures through music.

A significant turning point in Benise's career came when PBS approached him to create a show for its "Great Performances'' series. He spent time writing and recording what would become "Nights of Fire!" -- which made its broadcast debut on public television stations nationwide in 2006 and subsequently won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety or Music Program.

Since its debut, "Nights of Fire!" has drawn in audiences of all types -- whether or not they have any familiarity with flamenco music. Dazzling lights, dancers and aerial performers make you feel like you're experiencing something transcendent rather than just listening to a concert.

Benise's ability to reproduce sounds from around the world makes him a force of nature. His original style has earned him worldwide recognition, while he continues to push the envelope. Don't miss out on this unique spellbinding performance and see Benise live when he comes to a city near you.

  • Good Performance But Not What I Expected

by Jeff G on 10/18/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

I wasn't familiar with Benise when I bought tickets for my girlfriend and myself but I saw the references to Spanish guitar, so I thought I knew what to expect. However, instead of the slower tempo, acoustic Spanish guitar that I'm accustomed, Benise specializes in playing covers of songs in a fast tempo style. I mean, one of the first tracks was a cover of Led Zeppelin's Kasmir. Additionally, he frequently employs an orchestral or choral soundtrack, which was often so loud that it drowned out Benise's individual performance (as well as those of his band.) The saving grace was the dancers, who brought beauty and grace to the stage and really complemented the musical performance. So I'm giving the overall performance four stars, but I don't plan to attend another Benise show.

by Xiomy on 10/18/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Had never seen Benise in concert although had heard rave reviews about it. It was an excellent and fun experience which I would love to repeat when he comes back to Miami.

  • They never sang or played

by Vivían on 10/18/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 1 out of 5

They never sang or played the instruments in the show, they didn't even try to imitate that they were doing so. It’s so sad.

  • Needs singing not just instrumental

by Me on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 1 out of 5

Needs singing not just instrumental. More variation is needed. Tickets too expensive for Show.

  • NONSTOP ACUSTICS

by JV on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

It's a choice if you've never seen Benise. However, the PBS video seems more exhilarating than the live performance itself. Unfortunately, the show has mostly stayed the same in the last three years. I would suggest and welcome new songs, dances, and repertoire. What to expect: during the 90-minute nonstop performance, Benise leads a talented ensemble comprising two additional guitarists, two drummers, and four dancers. Their acoustic variety show encompasses an impressive range of musical genres, including Beethoven, Rock, Flamenco, Salsa, and many more. However, the cast appeared to lack genuine enthusiasm. They seemed to just be going through the motions, getting through another show. Beyond the staleness of the show and the lack of enthusiasm, I was also disappointed that the information about the VIP experience was not shared until 24 hours before the show. Unfortunately, we missed meeting the performer during the rehearsal and did not receive the autographed CD.

  • Don’t sit in the Balcony

by Jorjay on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

My expectations are high but I’m a guitar player so I’m bias. Benise is an subpar traditional guitar player that thinks he’s a rock star, but my wife enjoyed it thoroughly. The percussionists were the best part of the show. The dancers came in close second.

  • Awesome!

by Rosy on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

The best show yet. It was super entertaining, wonderful music and dancers. Could have watched all night. Of course Benise's guitar playing is the best. Can't wait to see him again next year.

  • Missing dancers

by Lucinda on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

I did enjoy the show. One hour and a half went by too quickly. This was my first experience with Benise. !!! I felt there could have been more dancers to accompany the guitarists. Stage seemed rather empty. More dancers would have made the show more entertaining and complete.

  • Amazing performance

by Vinin on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

It was more than expected, great musical arrangements, excellent dances. A very diverse, colorful and elegant show. I highly recommend it.

  • Wish it was like the promos

by DB on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

It was entertaining but the musicians play over a pre recorded track - I didn't anticipate that. The dancers were good but the stage was so sparse and at times it was a bit "cheesy". It was okay.

  • Not what I expected at all

by Mari on 10/17/23Miami Dade County Auditorium - MiamiRating: 2 out of 5

More on the boring side. Definitely for an older crowd. I mean older

  • Ever Fabulous Benise, his band and dancers!

by WendyC on 10/16/23Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

The Duke Energy stage came alive with so kuch passion and beauty. Benise is one of my favorite people to see in concert. The exquisite videography playing to "change"the setting for each song, truly helped to enhance the music and dancing. Benise and his band still play with the enthusiasm and passion they started with. Truly a fabulous Night of music and showmanship.

  • Misrepresent

show would be awesome if the boomers would stop using their phones and every 10 seconds shoot film... very distracting.

by Juddie on 10/16/23Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

A beautiful show and experience. My fiancé and I had never heard of Benice. We were very excited to see him not knowing what to expect. We were so impressed! The musicians. The dancers. The action. The colorful wardrobe. The background pictures. The personality of all the performers….. all led to a wonderful experience. We loved every moment. We will definitely see him again. Great show!

  • Awesome concert that lacks the Wow

by JenD on 10/16/23Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 4 out of 5

Benise is amazing on the guitar and his backup musicians are very good as well. Dancers are top notch. The concert had some piped in background instruments that took away from overall performance. I think a full live orchestra would have been the wow factor.
