Ben Rector . The bargain of the year.
by bradguitar on 10/5/13The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5I would have to say that any regular concert goer that missed Ben Rector wednesday night
should feel cheated. You have probably spent hundreds of dollars on other shows that would be hard pressed to match Ben's show. Starting with an incredible opening act , in one of the best venues around , to one of the least expensive tickets to be had. What a night. As a musician and more so a sound man, that was the best sound quality that i have heard in a long time. Usually you hope they get all of the bugs out on the opening act and it sounds pretty good by the latter part of the main act. In this case they were spot on from start to finish.
I was blown away by the opening act, Tyrone Wells. A very strong sound for 3 guys. 45 minutes was not quite enough for me. Can't wait to see him as a headliner.
Then there was Ben Rector. Wow. I kept making comparisons all night to other great acts. Mostly he reminds me of Ben Folds, only with a great voice. He surrounded himself with some amazing talent. It seemed like everyone on stage could front their own band, but why would you if you were having so much fun in Ben's band. Great lyrics. Smart timing. They were having so much fun on stage that it spilled across the entire Pageant floor.
I still can't believe that the tickets were so cheap. I took my daughter for her 20th birthday and would have gladly paid much more. She will return the favor in a couple weeks when we see ZZ Ward with opening act Wild Feathers at the Firebird. Folks, don't miss that one either.
Enjoy what Stl. has to offer .
