BEACH HOUSE IN CONCERT:

Dream pop duo Beach House plays a haunted rendition of ‘60s-style pop that is sure to captivate and mystify audiences wherever the group plays on tour. Singer/keyboardist Victoria Legrand is the focal point in concert, supporting her smoky vocals and graceful melodies with retro organ chords. Cutting through melodic basslines and minimal drum shuffles, guitarist Alex Scally weaves an intricate tapestry of chiming guitar notes. These sparse elements sound straightforward enough, but the group slowly adds layer after layer to create a climatic wall of sound on miniature epics like “Zebra”, “Norway”, and “Used to Be”. Ticket buyers can’t help but be swept off their feet as Beach House carefully constructs each intricate and atmospheric gem at their unforgettably hypnotic concerts.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

French-born vocalist/organist Victoria Legrand originally recruited Alex Scally to play bass for her Baltimore pop band in 2004, but he quickly romanced her away to form Beach House. Excited by the level of creative control they could achieve as a duo, the kindred spirits began composing their self-titled 2006 debut. Their atmospheric and mysterious take on classic pop struck an immediate chord with fans and critics, leading Pitchfork to name their debut one of the best albums of the year. The band signed to Sub Pop for 2010’s Teen Dream, which marked a major creative and commercial watershed for the band. While they’ve received increased attention in the following years, Beach House has kept their creative process unfettered: two best friends meticulously constructing one ethereal pop masterpiece after another. The results continue to transfix live audiences in concert and fascinate listeners on their recorded material, such as their critically praised 2015 album Depression Cherry.

    Best Show I've Ever Seen

by DemiCA on 2/19/11The Music Box - Hollywood

This was probably one of the best concerts I've been to. Beach House doesn't do anything particularly crazy on stage (though their lights are amazing), but the mood and energy of the event was just spectacular. I haven't felt so excited and happy for a long time. I would be willing to see them again and again and again.

Beach House... best live performance ever

by Coopaloop on 2/19/11The Music Box - Hollywood

The sound was amazing. I could understand every word that was sung, but I was still enveloped completely by the amazing instruments. Beach House was probably the best live performance I've ever seen. It was a very emotional experience. The only downfall was that the crowd sucked. Me and my friends were the only ones dancing. Oh well.

    Beach HOUSE ... nice!

by Mobly2000 on 2/19/11The Music Box - Hollywood

So this was a great show. I think they did a real good job. It was my first time seeing them and they sounded better than their CD which is a huuuuge plus. The lighting was good. 2 things I would like to say. 1) the crowd at the music box SUCKS. No one moves. They are a bunch of unfriendly dicks that dont let you move by them even when they clearly have space and you dont even intend to stand next to them. 2) I dont think I would see beach house again because even by the end of their 1hr+ show I started thinking they had played their last song already. Their songs just sound soooo similar.

    Oh My Beach House

by Scottyyyyyyyy on 2/18/11The Music Box (a.k.a. The Henry Fonda Theatre) - Hollywood

Simply phenomenal. Victorias voice is just perfect. The trio comes together just beautifully, to make it sound exactly like you would predict. Sounds like the first time you heard them, on headphones. This venue is now one of my favorites. A very historic, gorgeous, vintage feel.

    Powerful and beautiful performance!

by lost2joints on 2/18/11The Music Box - Hollywood

Big fan of Beach House - had never seen them perform before. They can't be touched in terms of originality and quality of their live performance. I can't say enough about the power of great music especially when it's performed in a live setting. It was a spiritual experience, I was baptized by their sound. I think I started crying at one point. The pairing of Papercuts was also an added plus. They sounded great, was the perfect warm up act.

    Drowned in reverberation.

by Casoor on 2/18/11The Music Box - Hollywood

Let me tell right away: I love the album and have no problem with the spacious sound at all. But what I heard live was such a shame. The band is great, the sound system excellent, the room was nice (Music Box), but what an unfortunate decision of the sound guy to drown almost everything in reverb. Her voice had about a 10 second reveberation, mixed louder than her direct sound. It made the show slow, unintelligible, frankly...boring. I left probably 3/4 in the show. It was just too much. Someone should tell the soundguy to take the fx down a notch or 2 and use it a bit more tastefully. It really hurts the band.

    Haunting performance

by SquintEastwood on 5/21/10Coachella - Indio

This was my favorite performance at Coachella 2010 (besides Thom Yorke). Victoria's presence on stage was over powering. The set list was absolutely flawless. I cant wait to see them again.

    Beach Heezy

by Bribribri on 5/7/10Webster Hall - New York

Always a class act, always leaving you wanting more. The most overused but valid description of their music: haunting. One of the very best newer bands out there right now.

    beach house has my number!

by sylvieanne on 5/7/10Webster Hall - New York

LOVED beach house as always, just an amazing show all around... perfect set for them: swirling diamond pinatas, twinkling pom poms, driving beats and victoria's soaring and scooping vocals that make you feel like a tidal wave of goodness has just swept the bad stuff in life away for all time!
