About

Celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Warner Bros. Pictures' iconic 1989 DC Superhero film, "Batman," live in concert!

The Dark Knight, defender of law and order in Gotham City, treads the shadow zone between right and wrong, fighting with only his skill in martial arts and his keenly honed mind to defend the innocent and to purge the memory of his parents' brutal murder - always keeping his true identity as millionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne a closely guarded secret.

The film will be accompanied by a live orchestra, conducted by James Olmstead, providing the perfect opportunity to revisit a classic fan-favorite film based on one of the world's most popular DC comic characters, or to introduce it to a new audience. Guests are encouraged to dress up as their favorite DC Superhero.

    Great show but with glitches

by Jason F. on 1/20/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

I've been to numerous shows like this, where a live orchestra accompanies the film. The problem with this show is that they had technical issues with the sound coming from the film. The dialogue came through OK, but many of the sound effects were distorted or inaudible. It was almost as if they played sound from only the center channel of the 5.1 surround mix and cut out the other channels. This detracted from the experience. Other than that, it was great. The orchestra sounded fantastic. The venue was charming and iconic. And, of course, the film is superb--my favorite Batman movie of all time.

You Wanna Get Nuts? Come on! Let's get nuts!

by Bruce on 1/18/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

This was an awesome show. My first time seeing a movie with a live orchestra playing the score of the theatrical presentation. And what a score this movie has. With Danny Elfmans signature sound from Tim Burtons 1989 Batman movie, chills and excitement engulf your body as you try to remain in your seat. The audience roared as the title words Batman hit the screen and many other times throughout the film. It was an amazing experience.

Great experience but some sounds were not clear

by Ryan on 1/17/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

This was a great experience, presenting Tim Burton's Batman film with a live orchestra. The only critique I have is that sometimes certain sounds like punches, gunshots, or explosions were minimized when the orchestra was playing. Such sounds could not be heard clearly amidst the music. Interestingly, there were no such problems when actors were speaking onscreen. Their voices could be clearly and distinctly heard with the music playing. All in all, Batman in Concert was a great experience.

    Holy Bat-Symphony!

by BranBrow on 1/17/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

Gotham's finest vigilante has taken over the concert hall, and let me tell you, it'd be a crime to miss it! "Batman: Live In Concert"wasn't just a movie screening – it was a sonic spectacle that redefined the superhero experience. From the opening chords of Danny Elfman's iconic score, played by an orchestra on fire, I was transported back to the goithic world of Tim Burton's masterpiece. The musicians weren't merely accompanying the film; they were living and breathing every pulse-pounding chase, every scene chewing monologue. The crescendo during Joker's first on acreen appearance? The orchestra painted a chilling soundscape that sent shivers down my spine. And when Batman soared through the Gotham skyline, the instruments mimicked his flight with a soaring majesty that would make John Williams jealous. The sheer power of the live score amplified every emotional beat of the film. Jack Nicholson's Joker was even more maniacal, Michael Keaton's Batman even more brooding, and Kim Basinger's Vicki Vale, well, even more stunning. The orchestra wove its magic into every scene, adding layers of depth and nuance hearing it live. I found myself lost in the music, cheering alongside the audience as Batman triumphed over evil, and leaving the concert hall with a renewed appreciation for both film and music. If you're a Batman fan, a movie lover, or just someone who appreciates the power of a good orchestra, do yourself a favor and catch "Batman: Live In Concert."It's an experience that will stay with you long after the credits roll, a testament to the magic that happens when cinema and music collide in the heart of Gotham. Bonus Tip: Wear your Bat-paraphernalia ! Costumes are encouraged (but no masks) creating a truly electrifying atmosphere.

    Nice idea, mediocre execution

by Zeitoper on 1/17/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

This review has nothing to do with Ticketmaster or the venue. Both were fine. My issue with this event is whoever produced it. It's a wonderful idea to experience Tim Burton's "Batman"with a live performance of Danny Elfamn's score. However, if it's going to be done, then it should be done with the full orchestration. Yes, the score is huge and thus it is very noticeable when the producers of the event decided to cut the trumpet, trombone, and tuba sections in half and the string section down by 2/3s. Two basses? And two celli? 8 firsts and six seconds? Hugh disappointment. No large gong. Only one harp. No set of chimes. How can you perform the last quarter of the score without a set of chimes? They're so prominent in "Attack of the Batwing,""Cathedral Climb,"and "Finale."It was a very undewhelming experience. I'd rather wait and see something produced by the LA Phil then see a small pick up orchestra try and perform a gigantic score like this again.

Great performance, great music while watching Batman (1989), and a great way to celebrate its 35th anniversary. Looking forward to watch something like that again. Thank you for a great event!

    Meh

by Ed on 1/16/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

Great to see Batman again. Experience overall underwhelming. Although “live” orchestra, sound was only heard through speakers even though orchestra was right in front of us. Speaker sound was a little muffled and definitely not as good as pure acoustical sound. They were probably playing but hard to prove the orchestra wasn’t simply “joining in” prerecorded music. Also, even though they had lots for sale, there were no filmmakers there, even though it was shown in the heart of Hollywood at the Dolby Theatre.

Jarring experience! Sound mix wasn’t great.

by JM on 1/16/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

I can’t blame the musicians for the experience. My main issue with the experience was the inconsistent sound mix for the film. While the emphasis should be on the music, the levels of dialogue and sound fix were all over the place. I sat 3 rows from the front, Orch Left. The music was often overpowered my random dialogue that was re dubbed and not in the original film (Joker’s laugh box at the end was horribly re dubbed and distracted from the Joker’s theme) I sat next to people in the audience who had the same complaints. Overall the experience had a fair amount of high moments but still disappointing overall :(

    Bad audio mix

by Y Kim on 1/16/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

The event itself was good. The staff was friendly and helpful. However, the audio mix of the movie was not good at all. They muted the music track, but in doing so, a lot of the SFX was also muted. Kind of ruined the movie experience.

    Did not enjoy

by Dailies on 1/16/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

Sadly I must say the sound from beginning to end was upsetting. For the Dolby theater I was expecting superb performances. The orchestra played magnificent but all I heard was the loud speaker playing. The sound effects were cut off, the dialogue most cases were too loud and distorted. I waited in anticipation the music to Prince only to fail on the output. Not sure why it played as it did but this was the only thing that disappointed me of the evening. Not to mention a little bit of light glare bouncing of the bottom of the screen here and there. I enjoyed the movie and the performance of the orchestra as I think they played well. It was such a treat to have heard live music to an iconic film.

    Cool Experience, But Not Great

by Diddydean on 1/16/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

The orchestra was great and really brought the classic score to life, but there seemed to be weird sound issues going on throughout the film. When the orchestra played, the dialogue and sound effects seemed non-existent - as if the producers couldn't get ahold of all the original sound elements to blend them together. At other times there seemed to be abrupt sound edits. Perhaps most strange, as someone who has seen Batman (1989) countless times, I noticed there were alternate audio takes for some line readings. Overall, it was a cool experience to see Batman on the big screen and the musicians were fantastic - but the two seemed at odds with each other and not working together as I've seen done with other live orchestra film showings.

    Batman Live (for kids only)

by JonJon321 on 1/11/13Tysons Event Center - Sioux City

I have been a fan of Batman since growing up. I am in my mid 20's and did not enjoy watching the live show. I recommend for kids only and not for the adult fans. Batman Live was directed for the kiddy audience. Costumes and performers were professional, but the show did not interest me one bit. I enjoy reading a comic issue more than attending the live show. The story line was weak. The Lion King musical was outstanding, but Batman Live was poor.
