I remember Junior High School, Peter Pan, and obsidian pants
by Kip on 9/11/19City Center - New YorkLena Hall is our undoubted queen of rock Broadway and stuns with unrivaled vocalese. The nostalgic jukebox of Meatloaf operatic late 1970s rebellion metal seems almost quaint by modern coarse standards but delights with rich arrangements, frenetic dance breaks, and soaring vocals. A convoluted plot weaves post-apocalyptic Lost Boys anachronisms with teenage angst and rebellion, perhaps overwrought and familiar. Applying the interpretative theory of the Smiths, if literal then it’s trite pablum but if ironic then it’s unmitigated genius. For the mostly middle aged audience, the most poignant lyrics were clearly “it’s all coming back to me now” and “objects in the rear view mirror may be closer than they appear!”
