  • best comedy show ever

by william on 2/20/23Punch Line Philly - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

If you have the opportunity to see Bassem Youssef, do it! He encompasses the best human elements - hilarity, honesty, humility - all together in his show. We laughed so hard throughout the evening, I had to dry my eyes multiple times. And then, bonus after the show, we got to meet him and get our picture with him! I was so sad I forgot to bring my daughter's book of his, Nadia, for him to sign. He told me to stop by with it the next day for him to sign, but sadly we live to far away. Now, I'm afraid whatever comedy show we see won't be as good as his!

Between the security screening and the COVID precautions (mask wearing) that's gotta be a rough start for any show, never mind a comedian. Still, the man came out and warmed us all up quickly with his banter. He addressed the realities of his life before living in the US with a family. Surprised me when he said he hated being a doctor! That makes me wonder how many professionals study for years to be in prestigious fields they don't enjoy. There were a few eye openers besides that, at least for us US born people (read that as white, as odd as it is to type that). I always wonder who I would be were I born into a different part of the world, not sure I'd have the guts to pull off what he did. We look forward to enjoying what Bassem does in the future. Having an Egyptian eye's view of the world, of our own country, that should help us understand our own issues. Sometimes when you laugh you are actually growing. This is that kind of comedy.

  • Great!

Bassem was funny, humble, and uniting. He is a perfect example of someone who a xenophobic American could benefit from seeing. At the end of the day most people on the planet are peaceful and just trying to pursue happiness. Not all middle easterners are terrorists the same way that not all white people are members of the kkk. He jokes, points out our similarities (we have bad traffic in LA- the traffic in Cairo is worse), jokes about how the Egyptian government was interrogating him on why people laughed at the jokes he made about the government. I definitely recommend going to see him!

Bassem Youssef is not only funny and creative but his jokes and stories all hit the right spots. He expresses the struggles that immigrants in general and Middle Easterns, in particular, go through and out of real-life experience in the funnies yet most respectful way. I wouldn't miss any of his future shows and I will bring all of my friends and family

  • Double-impact comedian: funny, with an essential mission

by PatriceP on 10/15/19Cobb's Comedy Club - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Bassem a few times, read his book, and watched his movie "Ticking Giants". Saying that he is the "Jon Stewart of Egypt" is a good way to attract first-time american audiences. He is actually more than that: a accute observer of the world and its cultures, a scientific mind, a very warm human being, and very very funny.

  • Interesting and funny

He gives a partial autobiography to explain how he got to where he is. Of course he throws in sarcasm and comedy with it. He also makes comments on the current U.S. political situation and criticizes Trump.

by Wittyb on 3/24/17Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Funny and very witty, Bassem captured us from beginning to end. He has an amazing way of explaining all the most intricate and complicated political situations in the Middle East in a very funny and not so subtle way. You'll enjoy his sharp tongue and his very comical view of everything. We laughed non-stop at this jokes and found him so knowledgeable in all areas including the US politics. We would definitely see him again anytime!

The event was fascinating and cathartic given our current national events. Even though he claimed it wasn't a comedy routine, Bassem is hilarious.

  • Fantastic!

Funny and insightful. An excellent show! Basssem Yousef walked us through the role media plays in supporting dictatorships. A lesson we must learn as Americans before it's too late.
