This is the 4th time I've seen & heard Barrage - they are similar but very different each time. And they're getting better - more talented, versatile and trying new stuff. Don't miss this energized group!!
My arms, legs and fingers ached with empathy from watching these truly talented folks reel about the stage while impeccbly playing some astonishing violin/fiddle music. While most pieces where high energy, they also brought along a couple of very soothing, actually relaxing pieces. Can't say enough about them. Bought 2 of their CDs and played them all night. 5 Stars
Barrage delivers a high-energy performance that truly pushes the violin to it's limits. Though each of the performers is clearly capable of playing what you think of as "classical" violin, this group's fast-paced, technically difficult pieces mixed with choreography and wide range of musical selection will leave you in awe. It is impossible not to walk away from this show thinking "why didn't I play the violin?"
As fiddling goes it was worth the trip and tickets. The show tries, in vain at times, to have that 'international' flavor. Technically they are quite enjoyable to listen to and watch. However, there is a certain 'flatness' (as opposed to depth) in their music that might be mitigated with the addition of perhaps an oboe and flute...
Completely entertaining from start to finish and pure toe-tapping fun for ALL ages. It is one thing to enjoy listening to talented musicians play a concert, but it is an entirely different thing to listen to those talented musicians play AND see them dancing and jumping around on stage while doing it! It is evident with each song how much passion this group has for their craft. Throughout the show, each individual had a chance to shine as a soloist - even the additional instrumentalists (drummer, guitarist, bass guitarist) got their share of the spotlight. This show was a real treat to listen to and thrilling to watch.
I took my family to see Barrage last evening. It was very repetative...we left after intermission. We enjoyed the 1st 45 min. but then got antsy sitting there. Their attire could be more profession. Overall it was an average show. I am glad we didn't pay to much to see it.
I had seen Barrage on TV, so I had an idea what to expect. But until you see them in person, you cannot appreciate the energy and excitement you experience. These people really enjoy what they are doing and it reflects in their performance! The variety of music played made sure everyone heard something they enjoyed. My only complaint is that the time went by too fast! I wanted to hear more!
Excellent "wow" factor. The talent of these musicians is breath-taking. I would highly recommend that anyone with a child who plays the violin to see the show - your children will want to take lessons if they know there is more to playing the violin than just in a student orchestra!
