About

Banda Machos In Concert

When they came together in the Mexican state of Jalisco in 1990, the 13 original members of Banda Machos could never have imagined how popular — and how controversial — they would become. Brash, infectious, and eventually inescapable, Banda Machos updated and modernized the traditional Sinaloan banda style. They electrified and augmented the genre's big, brassy sound with amplified instruments, flashy keyboard flourishes, and their longtime battle cry: "Arre Macho!"

The group is also known for equally flashy costumes, featuring fringed leather trench coats, matching boots, heavy gold jewelry, and big Stetson hats. Steeped in tradition but looking forward, Banda Machos' 1992 breakthrough album ‘Sangre de Indio' (Indian Blood) included the radio hit "El Gato y el Raton" and helped launch the Quebradita sound. It encouraged dancers' daring flips and slick hat tricks with a blend of banda, ranchera, and cumbia.

To the dismay of their older rivals (who considered them only a passing fad), Banda Machos was crowned "La Reina de las Bandas" — Bandas Queen — at the 1993 Viva México festival in Chicago. The group continued to fill stadiums throughout the 1990s and into the next millennium, appealing especially to young Mexican audiences in the United States eager to have a taste of home that they could dance to.

Banda Machos' repertoire, which includes both romantic material and witty lyrics spiced with double entendres (such as "El Profesor" and "La Manguera"), was written by some of Mexico's greatest veteran songwriters — including Joan Sebastian and José Alfredo Jiménez, as well as younger talents like Iván Díaz and Horacio Ortíz. They have recorded more than 20 albums and performed in Mexico and nearly every state in the U.S.

The group achieved even wider exposure in 2008, when they released their first YouTube videos in conjunction with the album ‘Proximo Tonto' (Next Fool), filming clips that have been viewed hundreds of millions of times. Following the release of "La Huella de Mis Besos" (The Footprint of My Kisses) in 2018, Banda Machos was acknowledged by the International Human Rights Commission for its commitment to fighting music piracy.

    Incredible performance!

by Bri on 3/20/23House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Loved hearing Banda Machos greatest hits all in one intimate setting. My husband and I would do it all again and again. The lead singer still got it and hearing him in person is EVEN BETTER. 1000% recommend if you listened to quebradita growing up. This Banda is legendary.

    Great Time

by MP on 3/20/23House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

We had a great time. The venue is a great place to see a concert. I would advise to eat first and then you get a fast pass ticket for the long lines.

    Great concert awesome performance!

by Claudy on 11/3/22Morongo Casino Resort and Spa - Cabazon

This was the first time I attended a concert at Morongo casino and I'm in love with the venue. Easy check in no parking fees. And great sound system. The only down side was people blocking the middle asile. I understand they wanted to dance but then block the view for the rest of us that where dancing in or assign seats.

    Excellent concert

by Patty on 11/1/22Morongo Casino Resort and Spa - Cabazon

The concert was excellent I’m still wowed with the performance of Banda Machos the only bad thing is that in the venue the chairs are to small and very tight squeeze that your bumping into your neighbors and everyone was dancing in the walkways that we couldn’t see anything not even the screens but otherwise I really really enjoyed the concert

    Hot and Long Drink Lines

    by FJ28 on 5/20/22Arena Theatre - Houston

The 3 groups (Machos, Maguey, and El Mexicano) put on a good show! Very pleased. What I was not happy with was Arena Theatre’s service. Five songs into the first band it started to get warm. By the second music group, it was unpleasantly hot. The crowd was hot - ppl were rolling up their sleeves, using hat to fan themselves, unbottoning shirts. The AC situation never got better. Some of the music it had their shirts drenched! The lines for drinks were very long. For the whole sold-out theatre there were only 2 beverage stations. After waiting 15 min in a 15-person line I only advanced 4 ppl and decided to leave.

    Houston Arena Becomes Houston Sauna

by Juan on 5/18/22Arena Theatre - Houston

The A/C was broken and made the experience extremely terrible. I spent $1,800 on 16 tickets - me and my guests had to leave early because the heat was unbearable! Wish I could ask for a refund! Too bad the bands were doing their best to keep the crowd entertained but also struggled with the sauna-like heat. Will not be going back to Houston Arena.

    Great experience

by Me on 5/17/22Arena Theatre - Houston

Overall it was a great experience! The venue did feel extra hot throughout the night though. A few bars did run out out of water and beer, a backup plan should be planned. Also, make Cash only lines at the bar more visible. There was long lines and you couldn’t see the cash only sign until you were near the front. Sound and stage appearance was great!

    AWESOME and had a BLAST!!!

by PAC on 5/17/22Arena Theatre - Houston

The Artists get the 5 stars however I was very disappointed in the venue. The Arena Theatre did it again, had us all crowded in there with no A/C! I called the day before the performance, no answer, voicemail was full and they don't reply to messages you send them via email or on social media. I spoke to a lady the afternoon of the performance and asked her numerous times if there was going to be A/C that evening and if the A/C was actually working and cooling correctly in which she stated Yes, they had A/C and it was working! As much as I like going to events here at the Arena Theatre the Banda Machos performance was the last show that I purchase tickets for at this location. They have us pay all this money for tickets and leave us with no A/C, so unprofessional Arena Theatre and this was not the 1st time nor the only performance they have done this!

    Venue A/C turned off

by Alba on 5/17/22Arena Theatre - Houston

The Arena Theater turns off the A/C on purpose knowing there is elderly and children present. Event sold out and the Banda did a fantastic performance but this place is horrible. Everyone was sweating it felt like burning hell in there and the air vent in the womens restroom is closed off. The venue does this for people to buy drinks and the lines to buy a drink are increasingly long takes about 20 minutes.

by rojinegro on 5/16/22Arena Theatre - Houston
